5 PRECAUTIONS NOTES ON HANDLING: • When shipping the DVD player , always use the original shipping carton and packing materials. For maximum protection, repack the unit as it was originally packed at the factory . • Do not use volatile liquids, such as insect spray , near the DVD player .
6 PRECAUTIONS (CONTINUED) TO OBT AIN A CLEAR PICTURE: The DVD player is a high technology , precision device. If the optical pick-up lens and disc drive parts are dirty or worn down, the picture quality becomes poor .
AC CONNECTION Insert the small end of the AC adapter into the jack on the side of the unit. Insert the other end (with the 2 blades) into a conveniently located AC outlet having 120V AC, 60Hz.
CHARGING THE BA TTERY P ACK “LOW BA TTERY” will appear on the screen when the battery is low and needs recharging. The battery can be charged while attached or not attached to the unit as follows:.

The Setup Menu lets you customize the DVD player by allowing you to select various language preferences, set up a parental level, turn screen saver on and off, adjust what type of television screen you have and more. Use the following instructions to navigate and change the options as described on the upcoming pages.
19 SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) NORMAL/PS: Pan Scan. Select when the unit is connected to a conventional TV . V ideo material formatted in the Pan Scan style is played back in that style (the left and right edges are cut off). NORMAL/LB: Letter Box. Select when the unit is connected to a normal TV .
20 SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) When this option is set to ON, Closed Captions will appear on the screen for the hearing impaired (if originally recorded on the DVD).
21 SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) STEREO: Select this to set the Dolby Digital output to Stereo mode. L-MONO: Select this to set the Dolby Digital output to left mono mode, meaning it will reproduce the left mono signal to the Left and Right channels.
22 SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Select the Desired Video Output mode: TV : Select for S-V ideo output. (Y ou need to connect to external TV to observe the picture using S-Video cable.) LCD : Select to observe the picture on the screen display . (Y ou can connect to external TV to observe the picture using the Video Cable.
23 SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Select the language the DVD will be played back in (ENGLISH, GERMAN, FRENCH, SP ANISH, CHINESE, JAP ANESE, KOREAN, RUSSIAN, THAI or OTHERS). The DVD must be recorded in the selected language, otherwise the default language of the DVD will be played.
24 SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Press the SETUP button 1 to enter the menu, select PREFERENCE SETUP using the Navigation ( √ , ® ) buttons 2 , then press the PLA Y/ENTER button 3 to select it. Use the Navigation ( π , † ) buttons 2 to select P ARENT AL.
25 SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) At the PREFERENCE MENU, use the Navigation ( π , † ) buttons 1 to select P ASSWORD. Press the PLA Y/ENTER button 2 to select CHANGE.
26 BASIC OPERA TION IMPORT ANT : When “ ” appears while pressing a button, this means that the corresponding function cannot be performed either on the disc inserted, or in the selected mode. Press the MUTE button once to mute the sound; “MUTE” will appear on the screen.
27 BASIC OPERA TION (CONTINUED) While playing a DVD, press the DISPLA Y button to cycle as follows: 1st press: T itle elapsed time 2nd press: T itle remaining time 3rd press: Chapter elapsed time 4th .
28 DVD OPERA TION Press the ST ANDBY button on the remote to turn on the unit; the POWER indicator will light. NOTE: Y ou can also press and hold the POWER ON/PLA Y/P AUSE ( ®p ) button on the main unit for two seconds to turn on the unit. 1 2 1 Press the Disc Door OPEN button to open the disc tray , “OPEN” will appear on the screen.
29 DVD OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Close the disc tray . Aft er lo adi ng , t he menu screen of the DVD should appear . Use the Navigation ( √ , ® , π , † ) buttons 1 to select the desired option and press the PLA Y/ENTER button 2 to select it. Adjust the VOLUME control 3 as desired.
30 DVD OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Press the Skip ( n ) button 1 to advance the DVD to the beginning of the next chapter . Press the Skip ( o ) button 2 to move the DVD to the beginning of the current or previous chapters.
31 DVD OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Press the GOTO button 1 once. Press the Navigation ( √ , ® ) buttons 2 to select TITLE, then use the Number buttons 3 to select the desired title number .
32 DVD OPERA TION (CONTINUED) While in the Playback mode, press the REPEA T button once; “ CHAPTER” will appear on the screen and the currently playing Chapter will repeat continuously . Press the REPEA T button a second time; “ TITLE” will appear on the screen and the currently playing T itle will repeat continuously .
33 DVD OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Press the AUDIO button repeatedly to change the audio language. This feature is not available on all discs. 2 1 3 1 Press the SUB-T button repeatedly to select a subtitle language, and to turn the subtitle menu on/off. This feature is not available on all discs.
34 DVD OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Press the ZOOM button 1 once during Normal, Slow or Still playback modes, and the unit will zoom x2. Press once or twice more and the unit will zoom x3/x4. Use the Navigation ( √ , ® , π , † ) buttons 2 to move the image on the TV screen.
35 DVD OPERA TION (CONTINUED) During playback of a DVD disc, press the PROGRAM button; the Program menu will appear on the TV screen. 3 2 1 Select the first title and chapter to be played back using the Number buttons to input two numbers for each program track, one for the title and one for the chapter .
36 CD OPERA TION Press the ST ANDBY button on the remote to turn on the unit; the POWER indicator will light. 1 2 1 Press the Disc Door OPEN button to open the disc tray , “OPEN” will appear on the screen. Insert a disc with the label side facing up on the disc tray .
37 CD OPERA TION While in the Stop mode, press the SHUFFLE button 1 once, “SHUFFLE” will appear on the screen; press the PLA Y/ENTER button 2 and the unit will randomly playback all the tracks on the CD. T o cancel Random, press the SHUFFLE button 1 until “FOLDER” appears on the screen.
38 CD OPERA TION Press the P AUSE button to pause playback; the Pause indicator will appear on the screen. Press again to resume playback; the Pause indicator will turn into the Play indicator again.
39 PICTURE CD OPERA TION Press the ST ANDBY button to turn on the unit; the POWER indicator will light. 1 2 1 Press the Disc Door OPEN button to open the disc tray , “OPEN” will appear on the screen. Insert a disc with the label side facing up on the disc tray .
Check the following before requesting service: 40 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE SYMPTOM GENERAL No power . Power on, but unit not functioning properly . No picture. No sound. Playback picture rolls. The playback picture is poor . The Search feature is not working.
41 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE (CONTINUED) SYMPTOM D VD The unit does not start playback. S ome functions do not operate as stated. Selected language is not being shown in the subtitles, or spoken. Subtitles are not working properly . Angle cannot be changed.
Caring for Discs • Treat the disc carefully . Handle the disc only by its edges. Never allow your fingers to come in contact with the shiny , unprinted side of the disc. • Do not attach adhesive tape, stickers, etc. to the disc label. • Clean the disc periodically with a soft, lint-free, dry cloth.
