In moderate or greater frontal or near - frontal accidents, the fro nt air bag and pretensioner sys tems deplo y simult aneously .

2-20 Esse ntia l Saf ety Eq uipme nt Seat Belt Systems Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F If your s eat belt is not long en ough, e v en when fully e xtended, a seat belt e xtender may be a v ailable to y ou at no char ge from your Authorized Mazda Dealer . This extender will be only for you and for the particular v ehicle and seat.
2-21 Esse ntial Safe ty Eq uipme nt Seat Belt Systems Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F If the dri v er ’ s seat belt is n ot fastened when the ignition switch is turn ed to the ON position, a beep will sound for about 6 seconds an d the seat belt warn ing light will remain on until th e belt is fastened.

If the vehicle is equipp ed with s ide air b ags, the i mpact of a n inflat ing side air bag could ca use seriou s injury or death to the pers on.
2-25 Esse ntial Safe ty Eq uipme nt Child Restraint Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F Accident statistics re veal that a child is safer in the r ear seat. The fron t passenger ’ s seat is clearly the worst choice for an y ch ild under 12, and with rear -facing child-r estraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.

Clicking from the retractor will be heard during retraction if the syst em is in the automatic locking mode.

Both anchors must be used, otherwise the seat will bounce around and put the child in danger .

Secure the child- restraint system using BO TH LA TCH lower anchors, following the child-restr aint system manufacturer ’ s instruct ions.

2-38 Esse ntia l Saf ety Eq uipme nt SRS Air Bags Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F Installatio n of F ront- End Equipment: Installatio n of front-end equipment, such as frontal p rotection bar (kangaroo bar , bull bar , p ush ba r , etc .), snowplow , or winch es, is d anger ous.

2-40 Esse ntia l Saf ety Eq uipme nt SRS Air Bags Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F The suppl emental restraint systems (SRS) ha v e two basic s ubsyste ms: • The air bag sys tem with inflators and air bags. • The electric system with cras h sensors an d diagnostic module.
2-41 Esse ntial Safe ty Eq uipme nt SRS Air Bags Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F ▼ Air Bag Activ ation/Deac ti vatio n Fr ont air b ag acti vati on A greater than moderate impact will cause the front air bags to inflate in the following cases: Hitting a solid wall straight on at greater than about 22 km/h (14 mph).

A collis ion, even one not strong enoug h to inflate the air bags, co uld dam age the sen sors. If there was a subsequent collis ion, a damaged s ensor w ould not i nflate the air b ags.

3-2 Knowing Y our Mazda Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F Doors and Locks The ke ys operate all locks. A code number is stamped on the plate attached to the k ey set; detach this plate and store it in a safe place (not in the vehicle) fo r use if you need to make a replacement ke y .

T o unlock all the doors and the liftgate, press the UNLOCK button again within 5 seconds and the hazard w arning lights will flash twice.

Pull up on the li ftgate to make sure it is secure. ▼ Luggage Compart ment Luggage s trap T o reach the luggage compartmen t, use the straps to lift up th e compartment cov er .

3-17 Knowing Your Mazda Doors and Lo cks Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F ▼ Fuel -Filler Lid T o open, pull up the remote fuel-filler lid release. Fuel-Filler Lid and Cap Fuel Spray: Fuel spray is dangerous. Fuel can burn s kin and eyes and cause illness when ingested.

Loosen the bo lt at both ends of the rear cross bar , then slide the rear cross bar to the desired posit ion.
3-23 Knowing Your Mazda Doors and Lo cks Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F 3. T igh ten the bolt at both end s of the rear cross bar a lternately and e venly . 4. Install th e rear cross bar cov er b y inserting the clips into the sq uare hole of the rear cross bar until they click, then tighten the screw .
3-24 Knowing Y our Mazda Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F Steering Wheel an d Mirr ors ▼ T ilt St eering Whee l T o change the angle of the steering wheel, stop the vehicle, pull the tilt wheel release lev er under the steering column down, adjust the wheel, then push the release lev er up to lock the column.
3-25 Knowing Your Mazda Steering Wheel and Mirr ors Form No. 8Q36-EA-01F Po wer control mirror The ignition sw itch must be in th e A C C or ON position. To a d j u s t : 1. Mov e the selector switch to the left or right to choose the mi rror . 2. Depress the perimet er switch in the appropr iate direction.
