MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 11 Product Damage Precautions • 360 Systems’ MAXX-2400 HD™ server contains hard disk drives and other fragile electronic and mechanical devices. While designed to be ver y reliable, it is still vulnerable t o shock.
Page 12 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Introduc tion 360 Systems’ MAXX-2400 HD™ server is a four channel, high-def inition video recorder/server designed for broadcast, produc tion, and Pro A/V applications.
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 13 Compatibility with A utomation Controller s MAXX servers work with automation cont rollers from many differen t manufacturers, accepting VDCP, Odetics or BVW p rotocols for 9-pin control of each server c hannel.
Page 14 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual The Graph ic User Int erface The MAXX-2400HD incorporates a graphic user interface ( GUI) which gives fast access to every server function. It is controlled by a standard keyboard and mouse (supplied) and requires only a VESA-compliant SV GA display.
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 15 Key Features and Benefits The MAXX-2400HD is designed from the ground up to deliver outstand ing performance and value as a high-definition broadcast se rver.
Page 16 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Applications fo r 360 Systems Servers The MAXX-2400HD adds value to many appl ications in broadcasting , cable distribution, video production, Pro A/V, ente rtainment and sports.

Page 18 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Instal lation Unpacking Your server has been carefully inspected and calibrated before shipmen t to allow immediate operation upon installation. Check all items for signs of visib le damage which may have oc curred during shipment.
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 19 Important Insta llation Notes System Cooling When many pieces of equipment are mou nted in an equipment rack, a cons iderable amount of heat may be produced, which must be removed efficiently. Further, a lower operating temperature will make equipment opera te more reliably, and it will last long er.
Page 20 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Continuous Co nversion UPS Design This improved design, sometimes called ‘doub le conversion’ continuously c onverts utility power to DC, stores it in a battery, then produces isolated AC power from an inverter.
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 21 Static Dischar ge Static electricity discharge is accepted by most people as an inevitable cons equence of living in a dry area. It is also a result of floor cover ings that may enhance appearance s, but are inappropriate for use around critical broadcast equipment.
Page 22 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Rack Mounting CAUTION! It is strongly recommended to rack mount the MAXX-2400HD before insta lling the drives. This will reduce the weight significantly, and simplify the mounting process. In North America, the rack slide rails will be mounted in a 19” rack enclosure having 10-24 or 10-32 tapped holes.
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 23 Connecting the Monitor , Mouse and Keyboard The MAXX-2400HD is not shipped with a video monitor. Select a VESA-co mpliant CRT or LCD monitor with a minimum refresh ra te of 75 Hz. Note that the MAXX-24 00HD may not start correctly if an unsuitable monitor is c onnected.
Page 24 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Rear Panel Con nections Figure 2 indicates the Rear Panel connec tions on MAXX-2400HD . Each connection is described briefly in the following text. Make all connections a ppropriate to other equipmen t before applying power to the MAXX-2400HD .
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 25 HD-SDI Video Inputs The MAXX-2400HD records D igital video on channels 1 and 2. It has separate BNC inputs for HD-SDI (serial digital per SMPTE 292M). HD-SDI inputs have a fixed 75-ohm termination. HD-SDI Video Outputs Channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 have HD-SDI video outputs per SMPTE 292 M.

Page 72 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual An automation system could, for example , issue a VDCP Cue command to Channel 3 for a clip called “logo”. Channel 4 would au tomatically be loaded w ith clip “logo_”. A Still or Play command sent to Channel 1 would cause bo th Channels 1 and 3 to display the fill and key clips, respectively.
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 73 The resulting .mov file may be sent to the serve r by FTP, logging in as user “anonymous” or “ftp”. No password is required. After the transfer completes, the se rver will render (encode) the .mov animation sequence into a pair of JPEG-2000 clips (key and fill) that are playable on the server.
Page 74 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual FTP File Transfers The MAXX-2400HD connects over Gigab it Ethernet using an RFC-1359 comp liant FTP server. File transfers to and from the server a re managed from an FTP client file trans fer program running on a Windows® or Macintosh® c omputer.

MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 91 Hard Disk Man agement MAXX-2400HD employs a n advanced Serial-ATA controller that manages twelve high- capacity hard disks operating in a RAID-6 configuration. This design inc reases system performance, and by storing parity data, can survive the loss of up to t wo drives in the array without data loss.
Page 92 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual About RAID 6 A RAID 6 configuration features the data st riping of RAID 0, combined with the parity benefits of RAID 4. RAID-6 is similar to RAID-5 in tha t parity information is distribute d across all drives rather than being concent rated on a single disk.
MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual Page 93 Managing Disk Arrays The Image Server’s Disk Array Configura tion Utility provides tools for monitoring and managing the disk array. Monitor ing and troubleshooting p rograms automatically check the ar ray, report problems and provide ac cess to RAID status information and se rvice options.
Page 94 MAXX-2400H D Owner’s M anual “Verifying” is the process by which the array controller corrects data pa rity errors that may have occurred because of power loss, incor rect shutdown or some other data error. Upon detection of a parity error, the controller will automatically start the rebu ilding process as a background task.
