Chapter 1: Introduction The Linksys W ireless-B Media Adapter lets you bring the digital pictures and music stored on your computer to y our Home Enter tainment Center , without running cables through the house. Using a wireless connection, the Media Adapter displa ys your digital photographs on the TV for the whole famil y to enjo y .

5 4 Chapter 3: Getting to Know the Wireless-B Media Adapter and Its Remote Controller On the Adapter’ s front panel, it has three LEDs to let you kno w how the Adapter is functioning. There is also a P o wer button. Read y Gr een . The Ready LED flashes when the Adapter is establishing a connection to the host comput- er .
The Adapter includes a Remote Controller , which features sev eral buttons allo wing you to control the Media Na vigator . Use the remote to mo ve through the Na vigator’ s Music, Pictures, or Help menus on your TV . T o install the batteries, follo w these instructions: 1.
9 Zoom in and out - Use these buttons to make on-screen pictures lar ger or smaller . Pr evious - Press this button to return to the pre vious screen. Options - Displa ys the Music Options menu or the Picture Options menu. Back - Goes back to the previous song or picture.
11 4. Press the Adapter’ s pow er button, which is located on the Adapter’ s front panel. 5. The W ireless LED will light up. If it does not, then pow er the Adapter off and back on again. Pr oceed to “Chapter 5: Setting up the Wir eless-B Media Adapter .
13 12 5. On the screen sho wn in Figure 5-4, choose whether the Adapter will be con- nected to your wireless or wired netw ork AFTER you ha ve conf igured it. If you will use the Adapter as par t of a wireless netw ork, then click the Ye s button for the W ir eless networ k choice.
15 6. On the Basic Settings screen, enter a unique name for the Adapter . If your netw ork has a router or DHCP server , select A utomatically for the Networ k Setting , and click the Next button. Then go to Step 7. If the Adapter requires a static IP address, select Static IP for the Netw ork Setting.

After the f iles ha ve been successfully copied , the screen in Figure 5-9 will appear . Click the Install Utility on PC button to install the Adapter’ s Utility on your PC.
19 18 Chapter 6: Installing and Using the Wireless-B Media Adapter Utility This chapter will instruct you on ho w to install and use the Adapter’ s Utility on your W indo ws XP PC, which ma y also be refer red to as the host computer . T o use the Adapter , the Utility must be r unning on your computer .
Media F older Manag er Click Media F older Manager to open it. The Media F older Manager screen will appear and list the cur rent shared media folders (see Figure 6-7). T o add a folder: 1. Click the Add button. 2. On the Br owse for F older screen, sho wn in Figure 6- 8, choose the folder you want to add , and click the OK button.
Chapter 7: Connecting the Wireless-B Media Adapter to Y our TV and Stereo This chapter will explain ho w to connect the Adapter to your TV (and stereo, if you ha ve one). It will also describe ho w to set up the Adapter from the TV if you do not wish to run the Setup W izard on a PC.

Artists or Genres If you w ant to play all the songs b y a certain ar tist or all the songs of a certain genre (like jazz or classi- cal), select Artists (see Figure 8- 5) or Genr es . If you choose an artist, then you will be asked to choose a specif ic album.

Appendix C: Setting a Static IP Address on Y our PC If you need to set a static IP address on your Windo ws XP computer, then use the follo wing instr uctions. 1. If your computer uses the default interface, then click the Start button. Click Connect T o and then Sho w all connections .
4. Click the radio button next to Use the follo wing IP address . Complete the IP addr ess and Subnet mask f ields with the appropriate information. Then click the OK button. See Figure C-5. 5. In infrastructure mode, the wireless de vices communicate with each other and to a wired netw ork by f irst going through an access point.
