Chapter 1 Introduction This Chapter provides an overview of the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router's features and capabilities. Congratulations on the purchase of y our new LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router.
LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide • Fixed or Dynamic IP Address. On the Internet (WAN port) connection, the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router supports both Dy namic IP Address (IP Address is allocated on connection) and Fixed IP Address.

When pressed and released, the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router will reboot (restart). • Clear All Data . This button can also be used to clear ALL data and restore ALL settings to the factory defaul t values.
Chapter 2 Installation This Chapter covers the physical inst allation of the LevelOne 54Mbps Wire- less AP Router. Requirements • Network cables. Use standard 10/100BaseT network (UTP) cables wit h RJ45 connectors. • TCP/IP protocol m ust be installed on all PCs.
Installation For best Wireless reception and performance, the Access Point should be positioned in a central location w ith mini- mum obstructions betw een the Access Point and the PCs. Also, if using multiple Access Points, adjacent Access Points should use different Channels.
Chapter 3 Setup This Chapter provides Setup details of the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router. Overview This chapter describes the setup procedure for: • Internet Access • LAN configuration • Wireless setup • Assigning a Password to protect the confi guration data.
Setup Where use of a certain feature requires that PCs or other LAN devices be configured, this is also explained in the relevant chapter. Configuration Program The LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router contains an HTTP server. Thi s enables you to connect to it, and configure it , using your Web Browser.

Setup Setup Wizard The first tim e you connect to the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Rout er, the Setup Wizard will run automatically. (The Setup W izard will al so run if the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router's default set ting are restored.) 1. Step through the Wizard until finished.

Setup Cancel The "Cancel" button will d iscard any data you have entered and reload the file from t he LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router. DHCP What DHCP Does A DHCP (Dynami c Host Configuration Prot ocol) Server allocates a valid IP address to a DHCP Client (PC or device) upon request.

Note that the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router will automatically accept both 802.11b and 802.11g connections, and no configura ti on is required for this feature.
Setup Options Channel No. • Select the Channel you wish to use on your Wireless LAN. • If you experience interference (shown by lost connections and/ or slow data transfers) you m ay need to experim ent with different channels to see which is the b est.

Setup Password Screen The password screen allows you to assign a password to the LevelOne 54Mbps Wirele ss AP Router. Figure 9: Password Screen Once you have assigned a password to the Le velOne 54Mbps Wirele ss AP Router (on the Password screen above) you will be prompted for the password when you connect, as shown below.
Chapter 4 PC Configuration This Chapter detail s the PC Configurat ion required on the local ("Int ernal") LAN. Overview For each PC, the following may need to be configured: • TCP/IP netw.

LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide Macintosh Clients From your Macintosh, you can access the Inte rnet via the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router. The procedure is as follows. 1. Open the TCP/IP Control Panel. 2. Select Ethernet from the Connect via pop-up m enu.
PC Configuration Wireless Station Configuration This section applies to all W ireless stations wishing to use the LevelOne 5 4Mbps Wireless AP Router's Access Point, regardl ess of the operating system which is used on the clie nt.
Chapter 5 Operation and Status This Chapter details the operation of the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router and the status screens. Operation Once both the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router and the PCs are configured, opera- tion is automatic.
Operation and Status Data - Status Screen Internet Connection Method This indicates the current connect ion method, as set i n the Setup Wizard. Internet IP Address This IP Address is allocated by the ISP (Internet Service Pro- vider).

Operation and Status • If the connection does not exist, the "Connect" butt on can be used to establish a connection. • If the conn ection currently exists, the "Disconnect" butto n can be used to break the connection.
LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide Error: Invalid or unknown packet type The data received from the ISP' s Server could not be proc- essed. This could be caused by data corruption (from a bad link), or the Server using a protocol which is not supported by this device.
Operation and Status Connection Log Connection Log • The Connection Log shows status messages rela ting to the existing connection. • The "Clear Log" b utton will restart the Log, while the Refresh button will update the messages shown on screen.

Advanced Features Special Applications If you use Internet applicat ions which use non- standard connections or port numbers, you m ay find that they do not function correctly because they are bl ocked by the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router 's firewall.

Advanced Features DMZ This feature, if enabled, all ows one (1) computer on your LAN to be exposed t o all users on the Internet, allowing unrest ricted 2-way com municati on between the "DMZ PC" and other Internet users or Servers. • This allows almost any applicatio n to be used on the "DMZ PC".
LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide Data - URL Filter Screen Filter Strings Current Entries This lists any existing entries. If yo u have not entered any values, this list will be empty. Add Filter String To add an entry to th e list, enter it here, and click the "Add" button .

Advanced Features Group Members Screen This screen is displayed when the Members button on the Access Control screen is clicked. Figure 31: Group Members Use this screen to add or remove m embers (PC s) from the current group. • The "Del >>" butto n will remove the selected PC (in the Members list) from the current group.

Access Control Log To check the operation of the Access Control feature, an Access Control Log is provided. Click the View Log button on the Access Control screen to view this log.

LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide Virtual Servers This feature allows you to make Servers on your LAN accessible to Internet users. Norm ally, Internet users would not be able to access a server on your LAN because: • Your Server does not have a valid external IP Address.
Advanced Features Virtual Servers Screen The Virtual Servers screen is reached by the Virtual Servers link on the Advanced screen. An example screen is shown below. Figure 36: Virtual Servers Screen This screen lists a num ber of pre-defined Servers, and allows you t o define your own Servers.
LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide Buttons Defaults This will delete any Servers you h ave defined, and set the pre- defined Servers to use their default port num bers. Disable All This will cause the "Enable" setting o f all Virtual Servers to be set OFF.
Advanced Features Connecting to the Virtual Servers Once configured, anyone on the Internet can conn ect to your Virtual Se rvers. They must use the Internet IP Address (the IP Address allocat ed to you by your ISP). e.g. http://203.70.212.52 ftp://203.

Advanced Features Upgrade Firmware The firmware (software) in t he LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router can be upgraded using your Web Browser. You must first downl oad the upgrade file, then select Upgrade on the Advanced menu. You will see a screen like the following .
Chapter 7 Advanced Configuration This Chapter explains the settings avail able via the Configur ation section of the "Advanced" menu. Overview Normally, it is not necessary to use these scr eens, or change any settings.
Advanced Configuration PC Database The PC Database is used whenever you need to select a PC (e.g. for the "DMZ" PC). It elimi- nates the need to enter IP addresses. Also, y ou do not need to use fixed IP addresses on your LAN. PC Database Screen An example PC Data base screen is shown below.
LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide Buttons Add This will add the new PC to th e list. The PC will be sent a "ping" to determine it s hardware address. If the PC is not avail able (not con- nected, or not powered On) you will not be able to add it.
Advanced Configuration PC Database (Admin) This screen is display ed if the "Advanced Admini stration" button on t he PC Database is clicked. LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide MAC Address Select the appropriate opt ion • Automatic discovery - Select this to have the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router contact the PC and fi nd its MAC address. This is only possibl e if the PC is connected to the LAN and pow- ered On.
Advanced Configuration Options This screen allows advanced users to enter or change a number of sett ings. For normal opera- tion, there is no n eed to use this screen or change any settings.
LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide Allow Internet access to be disabled • If checked, then UPnP users can disable Internet access via this device. • If Disabled, UPnP users can NOT disable Internet access via this device. But currently, t his restriction onl y applies to users running Windows XP, who access the Properties via UPnP.
Advanced Configuration Logs The Logs record various types of activit y on the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router. Thi s data is useful for troubleshooti ng, but enabling all logs will ge nerate a large amount of data and adversely affect performance.

Advanced Configuration MAC Address The MAC (hardware) address is a low-level network id entifier. It may be called "MAC Ad- dress", "Hardware Address", or "Physical Address" . On a PC, this address is associated with the Network card or adapter.
LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router User Guide If the MAC address is changed, the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router must restart. Routing Overview • If you don't have other R outers or Gateways on your LAN, y ou can ignore the "Routing" page completely.

Appendix A - Troubleshooting check your Internet connection (DSL/C able modem etc) to see that it is working correctly. Problem 2: Some applications do not run properly when using the LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router. Solution 2: The LevelOne 54Mbps Wireless AP Router processes the data passi ng through it, so it is not transparent.
