Introd uction LED Indicators All LevelOne Printer Servers are fitted with 2 LED indicators. T he red LED is the Status/Error indicator. The green LED is th e Power/Link indicator. Level O ne Printer Serv ers Diagnostic Push Button Models FPS-2101TXU and FPS-2003TXU are fitted w ith a "Diagnostic Push Button". This button is used to resto re the factory default settings, or to print a test page. The test page will contain all the current settings, and will be output to the printer attached to port 1.

Level O ne Printer Serv ers WebAdmin Window s NT Serv er (TCP/IP) Web Brow ser WebAdmin is installed on the NT Server, and th en accessed using a Web Brows er.
BiAdmin Utility P rogram This chapter c overs th e inst allati on and opera tion of th e BiAdmin util ity. Requirements This program requ ires: • Win dows 95, Windows 98 or ME • Win dows NT 3.51, Win dows NT 4.0, Win dows 2000 or XP Additional Reco mmendations : • Screen resolution of 800 * 600 or greater.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers Main Sc reen Start th e program by using the icon created by the setup prog ram. When run, th e program searches th e network for all active LevelOne Printer Servers, then lists them on screen, as shown by the exam ple screen below .
BiAdmin Utility Program Groups On the left side of the screen is a column for Groups . Each LevelOne Printer Server m ay be placed in a group, u sing the Configur ation-Sys tem C onfigurat ion-Groups m enu opti on. • If a g roup is selected, o nly LevelOne Printer Servers in that group will be listed on the right side of the screen.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers If the desired device is not listed, try the following: • Ch eck that the device is installed and ON, then Refresh the list. • Use the InitDevice - Find menu option to search for the LevelOne Printer Server. You need to kn ow the Default Nam e of the LevelOne Printer Server.
BiAdmin Utility Program allows you to configure both the LevelOne Printer Server and the NetWare server from wi thin BiAdmin. • If this Novell NetWare Client 32 is NOT installed, you can configure only the LevelOne Printer Server itself, n ot the NetWare server.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers Menu Opti ons Status Menu Device Info Same as Device button. Display all the config uration and status infor mation about the selected LevelOne Printer Server. The data is pr esented in a scrolling, read-only window. Port Same as Port Stat us butt ons.
BiAdmin Utility Program Configuration Menu The System option allows you to: • Ch ange the name of the selected LevelOne Printer Server. • Change the "Group" for the selected LevelOne Printer Server . • Set the Netw ork Protocols u sed th e selected L evelOne Pri nter Serv er.

Level O ne Printer Serv ers Configuration Methods To support t he w idest poss ible rang e of users , the Leve lOne Printer S erver is suppli ed with the utilities listed in the following table. Note that this document co vers only BiAdmin with Novell's Client 32 so ftware installed on your PC.

Level O ne Printer Serv ers • The right column lists any available servers. Note that to be available, you must be logged into the Server with Sup ervisor rights. • Use the “<<” and “>>” buttons to move file servers to and fro m the Serviced Fileserver list on the left.
NetWare "Prin ter" B utto n 1. After selecting the Printer button on the screen abov e, the NetWare printer objects ( 1 for each port on the LevelOne Printer Server) will be created if they do not yet exist. 2. The next screen (shown belo w) allows you to select the desired port on the LevelOne Printer Server.

NetWare To Assign Users to Q ueues (Required) Select the queue, then click Us er s on the screen above to see the f ollowing screen. The current qu eue name is shown on th e top of the screen. Level O ne Printer Serv ers Quick set Button (NDS) The Quickset button on the screen abov e will configu re the NetWare server with def ault values bas ed on th e default n ame of the Lev elOne Prin ter Server. You will see a screen like the follo wing example.
NetWare • Passwo rd - Change the login pass w ord used b y the LevelOne Printer Server when it connects to the NetWare serv er. By default, there is no pas sword.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers • Stop servicing a queue by selecting it from the list on the left, and clicki ng the “>>” button. • When a Queu e on the left is selected, the Users, Ope rators, and Information b uttons become available.
NetWare The current Queue an d Context are displayed at the top of t he screen. • Use the Change C ontext button to change the cu rrent context. The Available O p erators list on the right will then change to sho w the queues available in that co ntext.

Level O ne Printer Serv ers NDPS (NetWare 5) Overv iew • The Lev elOne Printer Server must first be conf igured as a valid device on your TCP/IP netwo rk.
NetWare 8. Clic k Crea te . The new NDPS Manager will app ear in the main browser window. • To start the NDPS Manager in fu ture, enter the following comman d at the console: LOAD NDPSM then select the NDPS Manager object.

TCP/IP Connecting to th e LevelOne Printer Serv er 1. Start y our Web Brow ser 2. In the Address box, enter HTTP:// foll owed by the IP Addres s of th e LevelOne Printer Server. e.g. http://192.168.0.21 3. You will then be pro mpted for the password. If no password has been set, just press E NTER .

Level O ne Printer Serv ers Telnet Telnet can be used to monitor the status of the printers attac hed to the LevelOne Printer Server. Operation Establish a connection to the LevelOne P rinter Server, by starting your Telnet program and providin g the IP A ddress of the LevelOn e Print er Server.
Unix This chapter d escribes usin g your Leve lOne Prin ter Se rver in the Unix envir onment. Over vi ew Soft ware Req uire ments • TCP/IP protocol, FTP (Optional: - BOOTP, Rarp, Telnet) • LPD printing system (for LPD printing) • C Compiler (for PSfilter proprietary printing syste m only).
Level O ne Printer Serv ers Using BOOTP If using bootp, n o arp table entry is necessary , but the f ollowing configuration is required: 1. Add th e following e ntry t o the Boot Table /etc/bootptab N.
Unix FTP (File Transfer Protocol) FTP is also a standard print method in most UNIX s ystems, but it is NOT recommended except as a test and back -up method of printing, because it does not use a prin t queue. LPD Printing Confi guration LPD is a built- in print ing protocol f or mos t UNIX sys tems, and i s also su pported in Window s NT 3.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers LPD on System V Before beginning LPD Setup, ensure that an IP Address h as been assigned to th e LevelOne Printer Server. Keep the following points in mind: • Th e remote host na me is the name of th e LevelOne Printer Server.
Unix Where: printe r_name is the Print Queue name used to st ore jobs for the corres ponding logical printer PS_NAME is the LevelOne Printer Server name defined in /etc/hosts Logical_Pr inter_nam e is the logical printer name on the LevelOne Printer Server (L1.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers A dding Remot e Printers A remote printer is added by inserting the following line in the /etc/printcap file. The entry is really one line, but can be entered as shown.
Unix Other Printi ng Methods Your L evelOne Prin ter Server supports 2 other prin ting methods: • DSI (Direct Socket In terface) • PSfilter (Proprietary print method) Printing Using DSI Logical printers must be con figured on the L evelOne Printer Server as explained in Chapter 7 - TCP/IP (DS I supports only 3 Logical Pri nters ).
Windows N T Server (T CP/IP) This chapter e xplains how t o configu re and use your L evelOne Printer S erver in t he Windo ws NT Server TCP/IP envir onment. Softw are Requirements • Win dows NT3.51 or lat er • TCP/I P netw ork protocol • TCP/IP remote printing system (provided with Windows NT; configuration is described in thi s document).

If it is already installed, proceed to Adding a TCP/IP R emote Printer . Otherwise, the procedure to in stall TCP/IP pri nting s upport is as follows .

Select Network Printer when prom pted, and then select the appropria te destin ation.
Windows Pe e r - t o - Pe e r This chapter d e scrib es oper ation in a Windows Peer -to-Peer Networking environment. Over vi ew In a peer-to- peer environmen t, each PC communicates directly with the L e velOne Printer Server. The Lev elOne Prin ter Serv er supports both Ne tBEUI and TC P/IP.

Level O ne Printer Serv ers Internet P rinter S erv er • TCI P/IP Protocol. The LAN m ust use th e TCP/IP prot ocol. • Mail Server Access. The LevelOne Printer Serv er must be able to access the Mail Server using a s ingle IP address. • Mail Account.
Spec ial Features Internet Mail Printing Configuration The LevelOne Printer Server must be configured with the data in the following table. This can be done w ith either the supplied BiA dm in utility prog ram (see Chapt er 4) or y our Web Browser (s ee Chapter 7).

Spec ial Features Using the new Port The Windows Control P anel is used to connect the correct printer to the InterNet Printing Port. In Window s 95/98/N T, the procedu re is: 1. Select the Printer which matches the remote printer, then choose Properties , as shown in the example below.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers Printing through the Internet 1. Create or open t he docum ent you wish to print. 2. Select the Printer connected to the InterNet Printing Po rt. 3. If you do n ot have a permanent Intern et connection, establish a connection now.
Spec ial Features SNMP The Lev elOne Prin ter Serv er supports SNMP (Sim ple Network Managem ent Protocol). The Leve lOne Print er Server’s S NMP support allow s network su pervisors to monitor an d cont rol t he Le velO ne P rinte r Se rver usin g net wor k mana ge ment p latfo rms s uc h as HP OpenView, IBM SystemView, etc.

T roubles hootin g This chapter d escrib es some prob lem situ ations which may arise, and the so lutions to them. Over vi ew If you encounter printing difficulties, please refer to the Hardware section first, then the Printing section, then the section for your specific situation.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers Printi ng - General Problem No. 1 When using 10BaseT cabling, th e LevelOne Printer Server unit does not w ork. Solution No. 1 Ch eck the Hub’s li nk LED for the port to which the LevelOn e Printer Server is connected. If it is off, there is a problem in the network cable.
Trouble shooting AppleTalk Problem No. 1 Why do I get an incorrect printout? Solution No. 1 Som e possible reasons are: • You may have chosen Binary encoding to print the file. Tr y to use A SCII en coding. • Som e of the f o nts in y our print fi le may not be s upported by the printer.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers page prin ting on the first or last pag e of y our document . • Ins tall the Apple LaserWriter 7 driver. You are having troub le printing with the Apple LaserWriter 8 driver. Problem No. 8 Why do I have t rouble printi ng with the LaserWriter 8? Solution No.
Trouble shooting NetWare Problem No. 1 My LevelOn e Printer Server prints garbage. Solution No. 1 Follow the followin g steps to identify the pro blem: 1. Print a di agn ostic f ile using PSConf ig program . (a) Run PSCo nfi g and se le ct yo ur Leve lOne Pr inter Ser ver fr om the list.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers • If the prin touts are the same, then the problem is NOT the LevelOne Printer Server. The problem might be that an incorrect printer driver was chosen or the timeout se tting in the CAPTURE co mmand is too short. • If the prin touts are NOT the same, there may be a problem with the LevelOne Printer Server.
Trouble shooting • Password Mism atch : Clear the NetWare password with PCONSOLE, or set the correct passw ord for the LevelO ne Pri nter Se rver usi ng W PCo nfig o r BiAd min. • Print Server Not Defined : Install LevelOne Printer Server again 4.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers Solution No. 5 Try the following. 1. Check if the printer attached to the LevelOne Printer Server is on-l ine. 2. Check if your LevelOne P rinter Server is logged into the file server (See Problem 3) 3. Check the cu rrent status of the queue.
Trouble shooting Solution No. 8 This means that the LevelO ne Printer Server did not log in the master file server. It might be that the Ethernet frame types do not match. 1. Try to fin d a workstation that use the same frame ty pe as the LevelOne Printer Server so that PSConfig can see the dev ice.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers TCP/IP (Unix & Window s NT) Problem No. 1 LevelO ne Printer Server device is not recognized. Solution No. 1 Check the follo wing: • There are no rou ters betw een the LevelOne Printer Server and the UNIX host duri ng IP addr ess ass ignment.
Trouble shooting 3. Reconfigu re as for a new dev ice. Problem No. 6 Printing by FTP, I receive an error m essage: Invalid print queue Print queue not ready Solution No. 6 • Ch eck that the printer is ready • Ch eck that Logical printer(s) are defin ed on the LevelOne Printer Server.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers Windows Peer-to-peer Problem No. 1 When I tried to install the Pr inting software for Peer-t o -Peer printing, I received an error m ess age and the installation was aborted. . Solution No. 1 This may be caused b y an existing installat ion of the printer port software.

Trouble shooting • When the Details screen appears, click the Spool Settings button. • When th e Spool Settings dialogue box appears, choose Start printing af ter l ast page is spool ed and click OK. Problem No. 5 A printing dev ice connected to the LevelOne Printer Server port cannot print or prints garba ge.
Level O ne Printer Serv ers after Job contains a FF (Form Feed, d ecim al 12 or 0C in He x). See the section on Logical Prin ters in the Unix or NT Server sections for details of Logical Printers. Problem No. 6 The Print job see med to go through OK, but it was never received.
