EN 3 Basic Connections CHECK CONTENTS 1 Make sure the package contains all of the accessories listed in "Specifications" ( Z pg. 39). SITUA TE RECORDER 2 Place the recorder on a stable, horizontal surface. CONNECT RECORDER TO TV 3 The connection method you use depends on the type of TV you have.
4 EN V ideo Channel Set INITIAL SETTINGS V ideo Channel (RF Output Channel) is the channel on which your TV receives picture and sound signals from the video recorder through the RF cable. If you have connected the video recorder to your TV via the provided RF cable only (RF connection) – Go to "With RF Connection" belo w .
EN 5 A (Ex.) If channel 50 is available in your area SET VIDEO CHANNEL 3 Set your TV to UHF channel 36. ● If the tw o v ertical white bars appear clearly on the screen as shown in the illustration ( Z "TEST SIGNAL" on page 4), press OK and then go to step 4 .
6 EN INITIAL SETTINGS (cont.) Auto Set Up Before starting, make sure of the following: ● T he TV aerial cable should be connected to the recorder . ● The recorder's mains power cord should be connected to a mains outlet.
EN 7 AUTO CH SET PLEASE WAIT STAR T FINISH TV Screen When A uto Set Up is completed, the lowest position number will appear on the front display panel. During Auto Set Up "PLEASE W AIT" blinks on the screen and "A uto" blinks on the front display panel.

EN 11 PLA YBA CK Basic Playback The easiest, most basic operation possible with your video recorder is tape pla ybac k. Already-recorded signals on a video tape are read by your video recorder and displayed on your TV just like a TV programme.
12 EN Playback Features V ariable-Speed Search ACTIV A TE V ARIABLE-SPEED SEARCH 1 During playback, press PUSH JOG or . ● The more times you press, the faster the playback picture moves. ● T o decrease speed, press the button for the opposite direction.

During playback, you can override this and adjust the tracking manually by pressing the TV PROG buttons. OVERRIDE AUTOMA TIC TRACKING 1 Press (SP/LP/EP) on the remote to engage manual tracking.
14 EN Index Search Y our recorder automatically marks index codes at the beginning of each recording. This function gives you quick access to any one of 9 index codes in either direction. NOTE: Before starting, make sure the recorder is in the Stop mode.
EN 15 Next Function Memory T he Next Function Memory "tells" the recorder what to do after rewinding. Before continuing, ensure that the recorder is in the Stop mode. a– F or Automatic Start Of Playbac k After T ape Rewind... ...press REW , then press PLA Y within 2 seconds.
16 EN RECORDING TV signals being received by the recorder's built-in tuner can be recorded onto a video tape. Y ou can "capture" a TV progr amme using your video recorder . Basic Recording LOAD A CASSETTE 1 Insert a cassette with the record safety tab intact.

18 EN B.E.S.T . Pictur e System T urn on the TV and select the VIDEO channel (or AV mode). T he B.E.S.T . (Biconditional Equalised Signal T racking) system chec ks the condition of the tape in use during recording and playback, and compensates to pro vide the highest-possible recording and pla yback pictures.
EN 19 Recording ST AR T RECORDING 1 Press and hold RECORD and press PLA Y on the remote, or press RECORD on the recorder . DURING B.E.S.T . B.E.S.T . COMPLETE ● The recorder spends approximately 7 seconds assessing the condition of the tape, then begins recording.
20 EN Express Timer Pr ogramming Remember , the clock must be set before you can progr amme the timer ( Z pg. 10). Before performing the following steps: ● Insert a cassette with the safety tab in place. The recorder will come on automatically . ● T urn on the TV and select the VIDEO channel (or A V mode).
EN 21 SET T APE SPEED 6 Press SP/LP/EP ( ) to set the tape speed. RETURN TO NORMAL SCREEN 7 After confirming all information is correct, press PROG or OK . "PROGRAM COMPLETED" appears on the screen for about 5 seconds, then normal screen appears.
22 EN TIMER RECORDING (cont.) Check, Cancel And Replace Programmes DISENGAGE TIMER MODE 1 Press TIMER , then press . ACCESS PROGRAMME CHECK SCREEN 2 Press PROG CHECK . ACCESS PROGRAMME SCREEN 3 Press PROG CHECK again to check more informa- tion. Eac h time you press PROG CHECK , the next programme's information appears.
EN 23 Auto Timer When the A uto T imer is set to ON the timer is automatically engaged when the recorder power is turned off and automati- cally disengaged when the recorder is powered back on.
24 EN EDITING Edit T o Another V ideo Recorder Y ou can use your video recorder as the source pla yer and another video recorder as the recording deck. MAKE CONNECTIONS 1 Connect the pla yer's AUDIO/VIDEO OUT connectors to the recorder's A UDIO/VIDEO IN connectors.
EN 25 Y ou can use a camcorder or another video recorder as the source play er and your video recorder as the recording deck. Edit Fr om A Camcorder Or Another V ideo Recorder MAKE CONNECTIONS 1 Connect the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT connectors on the camcorder or another video recorder to the front panel AUDIO/VIDEO input connectors on the recording deck.
26 EN INFORMA TION ON MUL TI-SYSTEM COMP A TIBILITY Setting Of The Colour System Select Buttons Use the COLOUR SYSTEM button on the front panel to select the colour system. Pressing this button changes the mode as illustrated on the left. The On-Screen display will show which mode is selected.

32 EN TROUBLESHOOTING Before requesting service for a problem, use this chart and see if you can repair the trouble yourself. Small problems are often easily corrected, and this can save y ou the trouble of sending your video recorder off for repair .
EN 33 CORRECTIVE ACTION Insert a cassette, or using adhesi ve tape, reseal the slot where the tab was removed. Set to the desired channel. Confirm that the source is properly connected. Confirm that all units' power switches are turned on. Set the input mode to "F-1".
34 EN CORRECTIVE ACTION Position the camcorder so its microphone is aw ay from the TV . T urn the TV's volume down. If you need the skipped channels, restore them. ( Z pg. 29) Press P AUSE to pause the recording, change channels, then press PLAY to resume recording.
EN 35 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS PLA YBACK Q. W hat happens if the end of the tape is reached during playback or search? A. The tape is automatically rewound to the beginning. Q. Can the video recorder indefinitely remain in the still mode? A. No. It stops automatically after 5 minutes to protect the heads.
