G-2 CAUTION — F button! (CA-DD8/CA-DD3/CA-DD1) Disconnect the mains plug to shut the pow er off completely (the ST ANDBY lamp goes off). When installing the apparatus, ensure that the plug is easily accessible. The F button in any position does not discon nect the mains line.

3 Introduction The numbers re fer to the pages in which the parts are explained. *1 The [PHONES] terminal is for connecting a pair of h eadphones equ ipped with a ster eo plug (n ot supplied). When the headphones are connected, the speakers do not produce any sound.
4 Introduction The numbers refer to the pages in which the parts are explained. There are some differences between DD-8/DD-3 and DD-1 in the locations of the remote control buttons as shown below . • If the effective range of the remote control decreases, rep lace both batt eries.
5 Prep aration Setting up the AM loop anten na Connecting the AM loop ant enna T urn the AM loop antenna to find the best position for radio reception. NOTE • Make sure that the antenna conductors do not touch any other terminals. This could cause poor reception.
6 Prep aration The speakers for DD-8 must be asse mbled to the speaker stands before the speakers can be connected to the subwoofer . Follow the diagrams b elow . Left and right speakers ■ CAUTION • The left and r ight speakers for DD-8 are consi d- erably heavy .
7 Prep aration Connecting the speakers to the subwoofer (DD-8) Before connecting the speaker cables, tw ist and pull off the insula- tion at the end of each speaker cable. 8 Prep aration The speakers for DD-3 must be asse mbled to the speaker stands before the speakers can be connected to the subwoofer . Follow the diagrams b elow . 11 Prep aration ■ Selecting the voltag e for your area (Only for countries/areas other than Australia or Hong Kong) Before connecting the power cable of the sub- woofer to an AC outlet, you must set the corre ct voltage for your area. Slide the vo lt age se lector on the sub- woofer to the correct voltage for your ar ea.
12 Prep aration DD-8 and DD-3 can ou tput uncompresse d digita l video signals to a TV compatible with HDMI (High Definiti on Multim edia Interface). Select “HDMI” for the moni tor out typ e.
13 Prep aration NOTE • DD-8 an d DD-3 supp ort up t o HDMI versio n 1.0. The HDMI video signal type can be checked with the “HDMI” indicator in the display window . (Refer to “Selecting the vi deo signal type” shown on the right.) • If the picture is distor ted while an HDMI TV is connected, turn off the main unit and turn it on again.
14 Prep aration 3 Press 2 or 3 to select the video signal type suit able for the TV . • When the TV is connected to the [VIDEO] terminal or the [S-VIDEO] terminal, the video signal type can be selected as instructed below . - Select “P AL 576I” for a TV only compatible with P AL interlaced video signal .
15 Prep aration NOTE • Signals input from the [LINE IN 1] and [LINE IN 2] terminals are not output to the [LINE OUT] ter- minal. ■ Selecting the analog output level of the [LINE OUT] terminal Y ou can low er the analog output level to prevent the system from producing unn ecessarily loud sound.
16 Prep aration ■ Main unit ■ Subwoofer ■ CAUTION • Do not connect the power cable of the sub- woofer to an AC outlet before se tting the voltage selector on the sub woofer and completing all connections.
17 Basic operations ■ CAUTION • Slide the remote control mode selector to [AUDIO]. Examples: 5: [5] 15: [ 10] → [1] → [5] 150: [ 10] → [ 10] → [1] → [5] → [0] Press [ F AUDIO]. • Press [ F AUDIO] again to turn of f the main unit. • With the power off, pressing any of the followin g buttons also turn s on the main u nit.
18 Basic operations This function allows you to easily understand dia- log recorded on the disc/file even with the volume down low . Press [CLEAR VOICE].
19 Basic operations Press [DIMMER]. • Each time you press [DIMMER], the display changes in the display window as fo llows. - “DIMMER 1” The display window becomes darker than the normal display brightness. - “DIMMER 2” The display window becomes darker than “DIMMER 1”.
20 Basic operations If no sound is produced for 3 minutes, the main unit automatically turns off. This function is ava ilable when a disc/file i s selected as the source. Y ou cann ot use this function when a radio broad- cast or a device connected to the [LINE IN 1], [LINE IN 2] or [LINE-DIGIT AL IN] terminals is selected as the source.

22 Listening to radio broadcasts 2 Press [ TUNING] or [TUNING ] repeatedly to select a radio st a- tion. • When the main unit has receive an FM ste- reo broadcast, the “ST” (stereo) indicator lights up in the display window . • Y ou can also select a radio station using the automatic tuning.

44 Operating o ther devices using the re mote control Y ou can ope rate your TV , video cassette recorder (VCR) and digital broadcast satellite (DBS) using the remote co ntrol of th is system. 1 Slide the remote control mode selector to [TV]. 2 Hold down [TV F ].

50 Reference • The following discs cannot be played back: • DVD-ROM (except fo r MP3/WMA/JPEG/ASF/ DivX/MPEG1/MPEG2 format), DVD-RAM, CD- ROM, CD-I (CD-I Ready), Photo CD, SACD, etc. • Playing back these di scs will generate noise and damage the speakers.
