SECTION 1—GENERAL GUIDELINES Part No 1026793 13 Xtra™ Repair and Service Information Unless otherwise noted, all service and ad justments should be performed while the wheelchair is unoccupied.
SECTION 1—GENERAL GUIDELINES Xtra™ 14 Part No 1026793 Do not sit or transfer into the wheelchair unle ss it is fully open and the seat rails are fully seated into the seat clamps. Wheel locks are NOT brakes. DO NOT attemp t to stop a moving wheelchair with the wheel locks.
SECTION 1—GENERAL GUIDELINES Part No 1026793 15 Xtra™ Tire Pressure DO NOT use your wheelchair unless it has th e proper tire pressure (p.s.i.). DO NOT overinflate the tires. Failure to follow these suggestions may cause th e tire to explode and cause bodily harm.

SECTION 2—SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS Xtra™ 18 Part No 1026793 Tipping WARNING DO NOT tip the wheelchair without assistance. When tipping the wheelchair , an assistant sh ould grasp the back of the wheelchair on a non-remov able (non-detachable) part.
SECTION 2—SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS Part No 1026793 19 Xtra™ The first assistant should stand on the sidew a lk and turn the wheelchair so that the rear wheels are against the cu rb. The wheelchair should be tilted back to the balance point and, in one continuous downw ard movement, the rear wheels should be pulled up and over the curb.

The second assistant, with a firm hold on a non-detachable part of the framew ork, lifts the wheelchair up and over th e stair and steadies the wheelchair as the first assistant places one (1) foot on the ne xt stair and repeats STEP 1.

SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTING Part No 1026793 23 Xtra™ SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION/ TROUBLESHOOTING NOTE: T wice a year or every six (6) months, take your wheelchair to a qualified dealer for a thorough inspection and servicing.
SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTING Xtra 24 Part No 1026793 CAUTION As with any vehicle, the whee ls/casters and tires should be checked periodically for cracks, flat spots and wear , and should be replaced. ❑ Loosen/tighten locknut if wheel wobb les noticeably or binds to a stop.
SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTING Part No 1026793 25 Xtra™ Inspect/Adjust Monthly ❑ Inspect seat positioning strap for any signs of wear . Ensure buckle latches. V erify hardw are that attaches strap to frame is secure and undamaged. Replace if necessary .
SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTING Xtra 26 Part No 1026793 ❑ Clean quick-release axles with a T eflon ® lubricant. ❑ Ensure axles are free from dirt, lint, etc. ❑ Ensure roller bearings are free from dirt, lint, etc. ❑ Adjust wheel locks as tires wear .
SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTING Part No 1026793 27 Xtra™ Suggested Maintenance Procedures 1. Before using y our Invacare Xtra wheelchair , make sure all nuts and bolts are tight. Check all parts for damage or wear and repl ace. Check all parts for proper adjustment.

SECTION 4—FRONT RIGGINGS Part No 1026793 31 Xtra™ Adjusting Calfpads NOTE: For this proced ure, re fer to FIGURE 4.5. 1. T o adjust the calfpad, turn pad towards the outside of the wheelchair . 2. Slide the calfpad up or down until the desired position is obtained.

SECTION 6—SEAT Part No 1026793 41 Xtra™ Installing Clothing Guards NOTE: For this procedur e, refer to FIGURE 6.5. 1. P osition the threaded and unthreaded half clamps on inside and outside of the wheelchair frame. NOTE: Make sure the thr eaded half clamp is on the outside of the wheelchair frame.

Remov e the hex screw , two (2) w ashers and locknut mounted in the arm socket that determine the half arm height.

SECTION 7—ARMS Part No 1026793 45 Xtra™ Replacing Dual Point Arm Pad/Clothing Guards NOTE: For this procedur e, refer to FIGURE 7.4. Replacing Arm Pad 1. Remov e the phillips screws that secure the arm pad to the armrest assembly . 2. Replace arm pad and securely tighten with the existing phillips screws.
SECTION 7—ARMS Xtra™ 46 Part No 1026793 Removing T-Arms 1. Press in on the lock ing lev er and lift the T -arm straigh t up and out of the T -arm socket. NOTE: If the T -arm does not slide up and down in the T -arm socket as desired, adjust the T -arm socket.
SECTION 7—ARMS Part No 1026793 47 Xtra™ • Tighten - Tightening the set screws on th e outside T -arm post will make it harder to move the inside T -arm post up and down. • Loosen - Loosening the set scr ews on the outside T -arm post will make it easier to move the inside T -arm post up and down.
SECTION 7—ARMS Xtra™ 48 Part No 1026793 Adjusting T-Arm Depth NOTE: For this procedur e, refer to FIGURE 7.8. 1. Remov e the two (2) phillips screws that secure the arm pad to the arm tube. 2. Remov e the two (2) socket screws that secure the arm tube to the T -arm post.

Refer to Removing/ Installing Rear Wheels on page 51. 2. Loosen, but do not remov e the four (4) hex screws and wa shers that secure T -arm socket to T - arm clamp.
SECTION 7—ARMS Xtra™ 50 Part No 1026793 Adjusting T-Arm Transfer A ssists and/or Side Guards NOTE: For this procedur e, refer to FIGURE 7.10. 1. Remov e the T -arm from the wheelchair . Refer to Installing/Removing T -Arms on page 45. 2. Remov e the two (2) socket screws that se cure the side guard to the bottom clamp.

SECTION 8—WHEELS Xtra™ 52 Part No 1026793 WARNING Make sure the detent pin an d locking pins of the quick/ quad-release axle are fully released BEFORE oper ating the wheelchair. The locking pins MUST be protruding past the inside of the rear wheel axle bushing for a positive lock.
