T ypical System Configuration —Continued Fig 1 depicts a typical configuration, where the MZA-4.7 is providing audio into four listening zones. Each zone consists of a room with a pair of speakers, and a suitable controller . Additionally a zone may require TV’ s or screens.
Contr oller T ermination The recommended wiring and color scheme is shown in Fig 2. Use the Standard 568-B color code for the CA T5E termination to the Controller – see T able 1. Although it is possible to daisy chain controllers we recommend “home runs” of CA T5E cable with a maximum cable length of 200m.
Ad v anced IR Contr ol IR routing – discussed in “T ypical System Configuration” on page 9 – is used to address specific centrally located source components.
Multiple MZA-4.7 Stac ks In large installations where multiple MZA-4.7’ s are required, the expansion bus may be used to con vey inter -amplifier control, source component Audio, and IR. Fig 4 shows inter -connected amplifiers using an expansion bus lead.
Zone Linking Zone linking is a useful feature for simplifying control in closely coupled rooms, where the rooms require different volume le vels and On/Off status, yet the same audio source.
A utomation Any MZA-4.7 parameter is controllable using the serial RS232 interface. The RS232 protocol is outlined in the follow- ing section, and encompasses both the amplifier and connected keypads. The interface is bidirectional, allowing the amplifier and network to be monitored.
RS232 Pr otocol The RS232 serial port provides data acquisition and control of Inte gra networks by a home automation system, or PC. The interconnecting cable must be straight: 9 pin ‘D’ connectors. Baud Rate = 9600, Characters are all ASCII. Command Structure: <command><zone><data>line feed.
RS232 Protocol —Continued Notes: ■ Commands are used as notifications. If an amplifier is switched ON, it will notify the other devices on the control bus by sending the Standby command (01). Any amplifiers with the same zone will take the notification as a command and also switch ON.
RS232 Protocol —Continued ■ A Standby ON command implies that the amplifier is not muted, if the amplifier was pre viously OFF , a mute command must follow the Standby command if it is muted. ■ Not all Command and Data commands are cov ered in this document.
RS232 Protocol —Continued Keypad K ey Codes An Integra Ke ypad may be directed to emit its learnt IR commands via RS232 control. This is achiev ed by sending a ‘Cause key press on K eypad’ command “0B” followed by the zone, and the K eypad key code (data).
Menu Na vigation Front P anel user interface: The MZA-4.7 has a LCD display and multi-jog (Rotary Encoder with Push Select) for menu navigation. The menus are hierarchal providing access and control of all amplifier functions. The user navigates through the menu using left/right multi jog rotations and pushes for selections or escapes.
Menu Na vigation —Continued •P r eamp V olume: Only displayed if the room is a preamplifier . • Mode: T rack Tw o options track or Independent •T rack Offset: 0 –37 to +25 range of adjustment. • Return Steps back to More function menu.
Pr ogramming Using IMC (Integra Music Center) IMC is an amplifier setup program. Full control and tracking of any MZA-4.7 zone is pro vided. The program runs on PC’ s running W in 2000 - W in XP operating systems, and communicates via either RS232 or USB.
Programming Using IMC (Integra Music Center) —Continued ■ Zone Select To select the zone mov e the cursor over the zone tab’ s down arrow and left click.
Programming Using IMC (Integra Music Center) —Continued •V olume Levels The volume sliders may be changed either by left clicks abo ve or belo w the displayed lev el, or by dragging the lev el down using a left click and hold. Note: If the amplifier is in “T racking” mode then changing one volume changes the other .
Programming Using IMC (Integra Music Center) —Continued The window pro vides the means to control the occasionally used functions like bass, treble, amplifier and preamplifier balance and loudness. These are all adjusted using a left mouse click while abo ve the b utton or slider .
Programming Using IMC (Integra Music Center) —Continued ■ Preset Programming Preset programming effects all zones on the MZA-4.7. There are six momentary preset buttons – Preset 1 - Preset 6. These presets are stored in the MZA-4.7, and may be setup using the IMC setup window .
Programming Using IMC (Integra Music Center) —Continued ■ Source Contr ol Alarm Clock Pr ogramming If a KEY -5.7 keypad is connected to the MZA-4.7, then source control can also be included in an alarm preset. In IMC’ s main window; file open a KEY -5.
