6 F eatur es Memory Preser v ation This unit does not require memory preservation batteries. A built-in memory power backup system preserves the contents of memory during power failures and even when the power cord is unplugged. The power cord must be plugged in order to charge the backups system.

8 This section shows y ou how to handle, clean, and store discs. Notes on Discs Disc mark D VD videos Pla y able Discs This DVD Receiver can playback the following discs. • Y ou cannot playback discs other than those listed above. • Y ou cannot play discs such as DVD-RAM, DVD-RW , DVD- Audio, Photo CD, CD-G etc.
9 Playback side Cleaning Discs • Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cloth. Always keep the disc clean. • If you cannot wipe off the dust with a soft cloth, wipe the disc lightly with a slightly moistened soft cloth and finish with a dry cloth.
10 Index to P arts and Contr ols For operational instructions, refer to the page indicated in brackets. ■ Front panel 1 Standby/On b utton, On, Standb y indicators [24] When Standby/On button is pressed to On, the DVD Receiver turns on. The Standby indicator turns of f, and the On indicator and the display lights up.

12 Remote controller T o control the D VD receiver , press Mode D VD or Mode Recvr first. Press Mode DVD to operate the D VD section, or Mode Recvr to operate the receiver section. Functions of grayed b uttons in the illustration vary depending on the mode.

16 Connecting to a TV Before connecting • Refer also to the instruction manual of the TV . • When you connect the DVD Receiver to the TV , be sure to turn off the power and unplug both the units from the socket before making any connections. • Connect the DVD Receiver to the TV directly .

18 P ositioning Speakers ■ Standard speaker placement of the speaker s system Speaker placement plays an important role in the reproduction of Surround sound. The placement of the speakers varies depending on the size of the room and the wall coverings used in the room.

20 20 z Connection f or the Integra/Onk y o Cassette T ape Deck, CD Recorder or MD Recorder The z terminal on the DVD Receiver is for connecting Integra/Onkyo MD recorder , CD recorder or Cassette tape deck equipped with the same z terminal.
21 21 Operating Components not Reached by the Remote Contr oller Signals (IR IN) In order to use the remote contr oller to control the D VD Receiver from a remote location, you will need to prepare a multi-r oom kit (sold seperately) such as one if those given below: IR IN DSR-7.

23 23 AM FM 75 ANTENNA Connecting an FM Outdoor Antenna If the FM reception is not very clear with the supplied antenna, connect an FM outdoor antenna instead of the indoor FM antenna . Notes • Install the antenna well away from tall buildings and in an area where FM stations can directly be received.
24 24 Connecting the P ower/ T ur ning on the D VD Receiv er Before connecting • Make sure that all the connections from pages 16 to 23 are complete (the connection to the TV is required). • T urning on the DVD Receiver may cause a momentary power surge, which might interfere with other electrical equipment such as computers.
25 25 ■ T urning the unit on/off with the TV’ s power switch — IPM function The DVD Receiver is equipped with the Intelligent Power Management (IPM) system. Just turn on your TV’ s power switch and, in about 5 seconds, the DVD Receiver turns on automatically .
26 26 Speaker Setup Y ou need to set up the speaker configuration for the speaker system connected to the SPEAKERS connectors (see page 17). Notes • Speaker setup cannot be done if; – Headphones a.
27 27 Press Distance. The distance entry display for the front left and right speakers appears. Press Up/Down 5 / ∞ to select the fr ont left and right speaker distance. Y ou can select a distance between 1 ft. and 30 ft. (0.3 m and 9 m). Press CH Sel, then press Up/Down 5 / ∞ repeatedly to select the center speaker distance.
28 28 2 Adjusting Each Speaker's Relative V olume Balance – T est T one Adjust each speaker ’ s relative volume balance so that the volumes of all speakers ’ test tones sound equal at the listening position. Note Y ou cannot adjust the volume balance while the muting function is activated.

35 1 2 Listening to the Radio There are two wa ys to select radio stations: • Manual tuning • Presetting radio stations then selecting the preset channels Unit T uning in a weak frequency (only f or FM stations) When you tune in a stereo FM station, the FM STEREO indicator lights up if the signal is sufficiently strong.
36 Listening to the Radio Naming a Preset Station Y ou can name the preset stations so that the name, instead of the frequency , appears on the display when you select the station. The following 52 characters can be used: (space) ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQUSTUVWXYZ ” ’ &()[ ]*+,-.

40 V arious Functions Common to all the Sour ces Adjusting the V olume The volume of the front left and right, center , surround left and right, and subwoofer speakers will be adjusted at the same time. When headphones are connected, you can adjust the volume of the sound through the headphones.
41 Using the T imer Functions 1 Setting the current date and time 5 Start the clock. Match the date, time etc. then press ENTER. The display switches back to the function. ■ Displaying the current time Press Clock on the remote controller . If the clock is not set, “ ADJUST ” flashes.
42 Using the T imer Functions T ypes of timers SLEEP: Puts the system into standby mode at the preset time. The sleep timer is activated by the Sleep button. (Playbac k) ONCE: Activates only once after setting. WEEKDA Y : Activates playback timer during weekdays (mon-fri).

44 Using the T imer Functions Setting the recor d timer Be sure to preset FM and AM stations bef orehand (page 35). Caution • If the current time is not set, you cannot preset the playback timer make sure that the current time is set. • Except for EVERY , all record timers record only once.
45 Switching the timer on or off • Use when you want to cancel an active timer setting, reset a canceled timer , or when you want to revise a record timer . • If the current time is not set, you cannot preset the timer . Repeatedly press Timer to select the desired timer type.
46 Enjoying the Sound Effects The surround sound of the DVD Receiver enables you to enjoy the presence of a movie theater or concert hall in your room. Before using any sound effect, make sure the Speaker Setup configurations have been set (see pages 26-28).

61 Changing the A udio Language (Multi- Language Function) Dolby Digital, PCM, and other audio data can be recorded on DVDs in a number of languages or audio tracks, letting you choose the desired language or audio. Press A udio repeatedly to select the desired language.

73 ■ Selecting a subtitle language preference The subtitle language that you will normally display can be selected from the subtitles programmed on a disc. Even when the subtitle language is changed during playback by pressing Subtitle, the language selected at this setting will be selected when the disc is changed.

76 Customizing the Function Settings This DVD receiver lets you set the Parental Lock if the DVD has a parental lock level recorded on it. With Parental Lock capable discs, you can block access to material you feel is inappropriate for your children.

78 Contr olling a TV connected to the D VD Receiv er Caution With some brand ’ s components, some buttons may not work correctly . In this case, program the command separately . 1 2 By learning a pre-programming code, you can make the RC-507M remote controller able to operate a product from another brand.
79 1 2 T V Controlling TV Press the Mode TV button. The TV button lights green. Press the desired operation button. The buttons shaded in the figure to the left are the operation buttons that can be used to control your television. The buttons given belo w have operations programmed into them.
80 Recording Using the Connected Equipment Y ou can record according to the following using the connected recording equipment: • Sound/picture of discs played back by the DVD Receiver , • Sound of FM/AM programs, and • Sound/picture of the connected source.
81 Causes • The power cord is disconnected. • The power cord has slipped out of the unit's AC INLET . • There is external noise interfering with the computer circuits of the DVD Receiver . • The muting function is activated. • The DVD Receiver is not properly connected.
82 T roubleshooting Causes • The DVD Receiver is in repeat playback mode, memory playback mode, or random playback mode, etc. • Power supply fluctuations or other abnormalities such as static electricity may interrupt correct operation. • The selected function does not operate for that disc.
83 Remedies • Switch the frequency receiving mode to mono. • Adjust the position, height, and direction of the FM antenna. • Connect an FM outdoor antenna. T ry to use an antenna with more elements. (For installation of the outdoor antenna, consult your nearest dealer as it requires special skills and experience.
