2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the manual bef ore star ting. • Do not put hands or f eet near rotating par ts or under the machine.

14 OPERA TION ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller nec k. Do not overfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un leaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce v alve lif e).

17 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 12) • Raise mower to highest position to allo w access to blades . NO TE: Protect your hands with glo ves and/or wrap b lade with heavy cloth. • Remov e blade bolt by turning counterclockwise . • Install new or resharpened blade with stamped "THIS SIDE UP" f acing deck and mandrel assembly .
18 MAINTENANCE V -BEL TS Check V -belts f or deter ioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not adjustable . Re place belts if they begin to slip from wear . ENGINE LUBRICA TION Only use high quality detergent oil rated with API ser vice classifi cation SG-SL.
19 MAINTENANCE 00667 MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O ADJUST A TT A CHMENT CLUTCH (See Fig. 24) The electric clutch should provide years of service. The clutch has a built-in br ake that stops the pulley within 5 seconds. Ev entually , the internal brake will wear which ma y cause the mower b lades to not engage, or , to not stop as required.

25 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS REPLA CING B A TTER Y (See Fig. 29) W ARNING: Do not shor t batter y ter- minals by allo wing a wrench or any other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connecting battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.
