2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and f ollow all instructions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in struc tions, to operate the machine. • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , toys , wire, etc.

6 HO W T O SET UP Y OUR TRA CT OR CONNECT B A TTER Y (See Figs. 2) CA UTION: Do not shor t battery termi- nals by allo wing a wrench or any other object to con tact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connecting battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.

13 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Always wear saf ety glass es or eye shields while op- erating y our tractor or per form ing any adjustments or repairs.
14 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or do wn hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope . • Choose the slow est speed before star ting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills .
15 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 9) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.

BRAKE OPERA TION If trac tor re quires more than six (6) feet stop ping dis tance at high speed in high est gear , then brak e must be ad just ed. 20 ENGINE LUBRICA TION Only use high quality detergent oil rated with API ser vice classifi cation SF-SJ . Select the oil’ s SAE viscosity grade according to your e xpected operating temperature .
21 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire br ush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers. See engine manual. AIR FIL TER Y our engine will not r un properly using a dir ty air fi lter .

25 T O ADJUST STEERING WHEEL ALIGNMENT If steering wheel crossbars are not hor izontal (left to right) when wheels are positioned straight f orward, remov e steer- ing wheel and reassemble per instructions in the Assembly section of this manual. 28 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
