English – 3 Ser vice journal Pre-deliver y service 1 1a. Dry-charged battery (506788801) Fill the batter y with batter y acid and charge for 4 hours at max. 6 amp. 1b. Wet-charged battery (510138501) Charge the batter y for 4 hours at max. 3 amp. 2 Fit steering wheel, seat and any optional equipment.
4 – English INTR ODUCTION Dear Customer , Thank y ou f or choosing a Husqvarna Rider . Husqvarna Riders are built to a unique design with a front-mounted cutting unit and a patented rear-wheel steering system. Riders are designed for maximum efficiency e ven in small or confined areas.

English – 13 PRESENT A TION Presentation Cong ratulations on y our choice of an e xcellent quality product that will give y ou great pleasure for man y years . This operator’ s manual describes Rider 175 and Rider 175 A WD . The machines are equipped with a 17,5 horse power engine from Briggs & Stratton.
14 – English PRESENT A TION Lifting le ver f or the cutting unit The lift le ver is used to set the cutting unit in tr anspor t or mowing position. If the le ver is pulled bac kwards the unit is r aised and the blades automatically stop rotating (tr anspor t position).
English – 15 PRESENT A TION Release le ver The release control must be pulled out in order f or the machine to be mov ed when the engine is shutoff . Should you attempt to driv e the machine with the clutch controls pulled out it will not mov e. The drive on the axle is disengaged when one of the controls is pulled out.
16 – English Driving Bef ore star ting • Read the safety instructions and inf ormation concer ning the placement of controls and functions bef ore star ting. • P erf orm daily maintenance before star ting as set out in the Maintenance schedule. Start the engine 1 Make sure that the clutch control is depressed.
English – 17 Driving 5 When the engine star ts release the ignition ke y immediately back to neutr al position. 6 Push the throttle control to full throttle position. Let the engine run at moderate speed or half throttle for 3-5 minutes bef ore subjecting it to heavy load.
18 – English Driving Driving the Rider 1 Release the parking brake b y first pressing down the parking brake pedal and then releasing it. 2 Carefully press down one of the pedals until the required speed is obtained. P edal (1) is used to drive f orwards, and pedal (2) to drive bac kwards.
English – 19 Driving Stop the engine Pref erably allo w the engine to idle f or a minute to obtain normal wor king temperature bef ore stopping it if it has been working hard. Av oid idling the engine for long periods, as there is a risk of carbon build-up on the spark plugs.
20 – English Maintenance Maintenance sc hedule The f ollowing is a list of the maintenance which should be conducted on the machine. For those points not described in this manual, visit an authorised ser vice workshop. 1) First change after 5 hours.
English – 21 Maintenance Cleaning Clean the machine directly after use. It is much easier to wash off grass cuttings bef ore they dr y . Oily dir t can be remov ed using a cold degreasing agent. Spra y on a thin la yer . Rinse at normal water pressure.
22 – English Maintenance Chec king and adjusting the steering wires The steering is controlled by means of wires. These can in time become slack, which implies that the adjustment of the steering becomes altered. Check and adjust the steering as f ollows: 1 Remov e the frame plate b y loosening the two scre ws.
English – 23 Maintenance 2 Loosen the locking n uts (1). 3 T ension the cable using the adjuster screw (2) until the pla y in the cable is tak en up . 4 Tighten the locking n uts (1). 5 The brak e should be check ed again after adjustment 6 Assemble the left-hand wing co ver .
24 – English Maintenance Replacing the air filter If the engine seems to lack po wer or does not run smoothly this ma y be because the air filter is clogged. It is therefore impor tant to replace the air filter at regular inter vals (see Maintenance/Maintenance Schedule f or the correct ser vice inter val).
English – 25 Maintenance Chec king the fuel pump’ s air filter Check regularly that the fuel pump’ s air filter is free from dir t. The filter can when necessar y be cleaned with a brush. Contr olling the acid level in a dry- char ged battery Check that the le vel of the battery acid lies between the markings.
26 – English Maintenance Chec k the safety system The machine is equipped with a saf ety system that pre vents star ting or driving under the following conditions . The engine should only be possible to start when the cutting unit is in its raised position and the h ydrostat pedals are in the neutral position.
English – 27 Maintenance Main fuse The main fuse is placed in a detachable holder under the batter y case’ s cover , in front of the batter y . T ype: Flat pin, 15 A. Do not use any other type of fuse when replacing. A blo wn fuse is indicated by a b urnt connector .
28 – English Maintenance Make sure that the tongue (3) on the cutting unit engages correctly . 3 Inser t the bolt and secure it with a locking pin. 4 Press down the frame and insert the pin. Fit the dr ive belt around the drive wheels of the cutting unit.
English – 29 Maintenance Remo ving the cutting unit 1 Carr y out points 1-9 to put the cutting unit in the ser vice position, see Ser vice position f or the cutting unit.
30 – English Maintenance Replacing the cutting unit belts On these cutting units with collision-proof blades , the blades are driven b y one V -belt. Do as f ollows to change the V -belt: 1 Remov e the cutting unit. 2 Undo the bolt on the lift strut and the two screws on the cov er .
English – 31 Maintenance 5 Disengage the spring for the drive belt tensioning wheel. Rider 175 Rider 175 A WD 6 Place a f oot on the front edge of the cutting unit near the wheel and raise the front edge of the unit to mak e it easier to remov e the lift strut.
32 – English Maintenance Chec king the blades T o achiev e the best mowing results it is important that the blades are undamaged and w ell-shar pened. Check that the b lades’ attachment screws are tight. The blades should be balanced after sharpening.
English – 33 Lubrication Chec king the engine’ s oil level. Check the oil le vel in the engine when the Rider stands horizontal with the engine s witched off. Open the engine cov er . Loosen the dipstick, pull it up and wipe it off . Now insert the dipstick again.
34 – English Lubrication Changing the oil filter The oil filter must be replaced after e v er y 200 hours running time. T urn the old oil filter anti-clockwise to remov e. If necessar y , use a filter remov er . Lightly lubricate the r ubber seal on the ne w oil filter using new oil.

36 – English Storage Winter stora ge At the end of the season, or if the machine is going to stand idle f or more than 30 days , it should immediately be made ready f or storage. Fuel which is left to stand for long periods (30 da ys or more) can leav e tacky deposits which can b lock the carburettor and interf ere with the engine.
