1 How Sonar W orks Sonar technology is based on sound wav es. T he 700 Series™ Fishing System uses sonar to locate and define structure, bottom contour and composition, as well as depth directly belo w the transducer .
2 When all the echoes ar e view ed side by side, an easy to interpret "graph" of the bottom, fish and structure appears. The sound pulses ar e transmitted a t various frequencies depending on the application. V ery high frequencies (455 kHz) are used f or grea test definition but the operating depth is limited.
3 DualBeam PLUS™ Sonar Y our 700 Series™ Fishing System uses a 200/83 kHz DualBeam PLUS™ sonar system with a wide (60°) area of cov erage. DualBeam PL US™ sonar has a narrowly f ocused 20° center beam, surrounded by a second beam of 60°, expanding your cov erage to an ar ea equal to your depth.
4 QuadraBeam PL US™ Sonar (with optional-purchase QuadraBeam PLUS™ transducer) Y our 700 Series™ Fishing System also supports QuadraBeam PLUS™ sonar with the purchase of an additional QuadraBeam PLUS™ transducer . QuadraBeam PLUS™ sonar provides an extr emely wide 90° area of cover age.

6 How GPS and Cartogr aphy W ork Y our 700 Series™ Fishing System also supports GPS and chartplotting, and uses GPS and sonar to determine your position, display it on a grid, and pr ovide detailed underwater inf ormation. T he Global P ositioning System (GPS) is a satellite naviga tion system designed and maintained by the U.

8 Multi-Media Card (MMC)/SD Slot Y our 700 Series™ Fishing System also has a multi-media card (MMC)/SD slot that is used to insert optional-purchase cards containing additional detailed maps.

12 Sonar V iew Sonar V iew presents a historical log of sonar returns. Depth is alw ays displayed. Readouts for tempera ture and speed are automatically displa yed if the appropriate accessory is connected.
13 Understanding Sonar History It is important to understand the significance of the display . The display does NO T show a literal 3- dimensional representa tion of what is under the water .
14 Real T ime Sonar (RTS®) W indow A Real Time Sonar (R TS®) Window appear s on the right side of the display in the Sonar Vie w only . The R TS® W indow alwa ys updates a t the fastest ra te possible for depth conditions and shows only the r eturns from the bottom, structure and fish that ar e within the transducer beam.
15 Bottom Presentation As the boat mov es, the unit charts the changes in depth on the display to create a profile of the Bottom Contour . T he type of bottom can be determined from the return charted on the display . A Hard Bottom such as compacted sediment or flat rock appear s as a thinner line across the display .

17 WhiteLine® highlights the strongest sonar returns in white, r esulting in a distinctive outline. This has the benefit of clearly defining the bottom on the displa y .
18 Sonar Zoom V iew Sonar Zoom V iew increases the display ed resolution to separate sonar returns that are v ery close together , such as those caused by fish suspended close to the bottom or within structure. In Zoom V iew , the display is split to show a narrow slice of the full r ange view on the right and the zoomed view on the left.
19 200/83 kHz Split Sonar V iew Split Sonar V iew displays sonar returns from the 83 kHz wide beam on the left side of the screen and displays sonar r eturns from the 200 kHz narrow beam on the right side of the screen. Depth is alwa ys displayed in the upper left hand corner .
20 Big Digits V iew Big Digits V iew provides digital data in a lar ge, easy-to-see format. Depth is always displa yed. Readouts for tempera ture, speed and T riplog information ar e displayed automa tically if the appropriate accessory is connected to the system.
21 Circular Flasher V iew Circular Flasher V iew displays Real T ime Sonar (RTS®) data in the tr aditional flasher format. Depth and temper ature are alw ays display ed. T he digital readouts in the Circular Flasher V iew cannot be customized. 531528-1_A - 757c_787c2_&_787c2i_Man_Eng.
22 Snapshot and Recording V iew Snapshot and Recording V iew displa ys and allows you to vie w both screen snapshot thumbnails and recording icons captur ed to an optional-purchase MMC/SD card installed in your unit.
23 NOTE: For snapshots and recordings, the indicator bar has several states: during recording, the amount of space remaining on the MMC/SD card is indicated on the status bar. During playback, the amount of time/memory remaining to play is indicated on the status bar.
24 Recording and Playback: From the Snapshot and Recor ding Vie w, you can use the X-Pr ess™ menu to start and stop recording, and to change the pings per second (which alters the detail lev el of the recording).
25 Highlighting a recording: Y ou can scroll through the whole list of r ecording icons available in the Snapshot and Recor ding View using the 4-W A Y Cursor keys. T he highlighted icon will be surrounded by arr ows, and a green pla y triangle will appear to its right.
26 Recording V iew only , playback speed can also be changed using the Left and Right 4-W ay Cursor ke ys. Playback is paused when the sonar cursor is activ e and resumes playing when the cur sor is removed. Pla yback is automatically paused when the end of the recording is r eached.
27 Side Beam V iew (with optional-purchase QuadraBeam PLUS™ transducer) Side Beam V iew is only available if y ou have connected an optional-purchase QuadraBeam™ transducer accessory and when T ransducer Select is set to QuadraBeam (see Sonar Menu Tab: Transducer Select ).
28 Classic layout: The top portion of the display presents a historical log of sonar returns from the 200 kHz do wn-looking sonar beam. New information in the down beam panel scrolls fr om right to left. The bottom portion of the display presents a historical log of sonar returns fr om the 455 kHz right- and left -looking sonar beams.
29 Slanted layout: T his layout pr esents the two 455 kHz side sonar beams and the 200 kHz down-looking sonar beam as three panels of historical da ta. This lay out is presented as three slanted panels. Ne w information appears on the right, and scrolls to the left.
30 WideSide® V iew (with optional-purchase WideSide® transducer) WideSide® V iew is only a vailable if y ou have connected a W ideSide® transducer accessory and when T ransducer Select is set to WideSide® (see Sonar Menu Tab: Transducer Select ).
31 Bird’s Ey e V iew Bird's Eye V iew - T his view shows a 3-D, per spective view of the tr ack and the chart’s land contour from a point abov e and behind the boat (the eye point). As the boat turns, the ey e point moves to follo w the boat.
32 Chart V iew Chart V iew - This view sho ws cartography from the built -in UniMap™ or an optional MMC map for the area surr ounding your current position.

34 Combo V iew Combo V iew - This view is displa yed as a split screen, with Chart Vie w on the left and Sonar Vie w on the right side of the screen. The width of the sonar window can be changed.
35 V iew Orientation Both Chart and Combo views allow y ou to choose the orientation of the vie w . When North-Up orientation is selected, T rue North is shown a t the top of the display . In other words, objects located to the north of the boat ar e drawn above the boat.
36 amplified to reflect the scale selected. If you zoom in so f ar that no cartography is available, a la t/long grid will be drawn instead. Chart Info: Use the INFO key to get detailed inf ormation about the chart. If the cursor is active, y ou will see information about the chart objects located near the cursor .
37 Introduction to Na vigation Use your Fishing System to establish w aypoints at areas of interest and to navigate to those w aypoints via a savable r oute (representing the shortest intended distance between wa ypoints). Y ou can also view and sav e tracks, which represent the actual pa th of the boat.
38 T racks consist of detailed position history , and are displayed as a br eadcrumb trail of trackpoints. T he Current T rack shows the position history since the unit was pow ered up (maximum of 20,000 trackpoints display ed). Y ou can clear the Current T rack or sav e it at any time.
39 Edit a waypoint: F rom the Wa ypoints submenu, select Edit and press the RIGHT Cursor ke y to display a list of saved w aypoints. Select the wa ypoint you want to edit and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey . Use the 4-WA Y Cursor Control k ey to mov e from field to field, and the UP and DOWN Cursor k eys to changes values once you are in a field.
40 Cancel navigation: Fr om the Navigation X -Press™ menu, select Cancel Navigation and pr ess the RIGHT Cur sor key . Canceling navigation remo ves the route and any w aypoints created using the GO TO ke y , but does not remove an y saved r outes from memory .
41 Add or Remove a T rolling Grid: Fr om the W aypoints submenu, select Grid and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey to display a list of wa ypoints. Select the waypoint to which you want to add the grid. T he trolling grid will appear on all of the navigation vie ws, and can be used as a guide when trolling around a wa ypoint.
42 Sav e, Edit or Delete a Route Save the curr ent route: W hile you are na vigating, the current route can be saved. F rom the Navigation X -Press ™ menu, select Save Curr ent Route and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey .
43 Sav e or Clear a Current T rack Save the curr ent track: From the Naviga tion X-Press™ menu, select Sa ve Current T rack and press the RIGHT Cur sor key . The tr ack will remain on the display , but will change from black to gray . T o remove the tr ack completely from the display , see Edit, Delete or Hide Saved T racks.
44 Man Overboar d (MOB) Navigation As soon as you know tha t you have a man o verboard, y ou should activate MOB navigation to maximize chances f or a successful rescue. MOB navigation allows you cr eate an MOB waypoint to locate the point a t which your man went overboar d, and the relation of the boat to tha t point.

46 Ke y Functions Y our Fishing System user interface consists of a set of easy-to-use k eys that work with various on-scr een views and menus to give you flexibility and contr ol over y our fishing experience.
47 INFO Ke y Info - Pr ess the INFO key while in Bir d's Eye, Chart or Combo Vie w to display information about objects tha t are nearest to an active cursor .
48 4-W A Y Cursor Contr ol Ke y The 4-W ay Cursor Control K ey has multiple functions, depending on the situation: • Use the DOWN or UP arrow k eys to select a menu choice from the menu list, then use the LEFT or RIGHT arrow k eys to change a menu setting.
49 G OTO K ey The GO TO K ey has multiple functions, depending on the situation: • If the Cursor is active, pr essing the GOT O key while in an y view cr eates a waypoint and starts na vigation towar ds that wa ypoint.
50 EXIT Ke y The EXIT k ey has multiple functions, depending on the situation: • If an alarm is sounding, pressing EXIT will cancel the alarm. • If a menu tab is selected, pressing EXIT will exit the menu mode and return to the view . • If a menu is active, pressing EXIT will r eturn to the previous lev el in the menu system.
51 Accessory Bus Use the Accessory Bus to expand the functionality of your Fishing System. Accessories plug directly into the Fishing System, enabling Adv anced features such as W eatherSense® and the SmartCast® Wir eless Sonar Link.
52 P owering Up the Unit T urn on your Fishing System by pr essing the POWER/LIGHT key . The T itle screen is display ed until the Fishing System begins operation. Y our Fishing System will begin Normal or Simulator opera tion, depending on the presence or absence of a transducer .
53 T he Menu System The menu system is divided into easy -to-use menu modules. The main components of the menu system are: Start-Up Options Menu - Pr ess the MENU key during the pow er up sequence to view the Start -Up Options menu.
54 User Mode (Normal or Advanced) - An Advanced Mode is provided for user s who desire the highest lev el of control over the F ishing System and Normal Mode for users who desire gr eater simplicity and few er menu choices.
55 Start -Up Options Menu Press the MENU ke y when the Title screen is displa yed to access the Start -Up Options menu. Use the UP or DOWN 4-WA Y Cursor keys to position the cur sor , then the RIGHT Cursor ke y to select one of the following choices.
56 Simulator Use the Simulator to learn how to use y our Fishing System before taking y our boat on the wa ter . The Simula tor is a very po werful tool that simula tes on the water oper ation, providing a r andomly-updated displa y .
57 System Status Use System Status to view system connections and to conduct a unit self-test. The f ollowing screens are displa yed in turn when you pr ess the VIEW button when using System Status: • Self T est • Accessory T est • GPS Diagnostic Vie w.
58 Accessory T est Accessory T est lists the accessories connected to the system. NOTE: The speed accessory will be detected only if the paddlewheel has moved since your Fishing System was powered up. System Status Accessory T est Screen 531528-1_A - 757c_787c2_&_787c2i_Man_Eng.
59 GPS Diagnostic V iew GPS Diagnostic V iew shows a sk y chart and numerical data from the GPS receiver . The sky chart sho ws the location of each visible GPS satellite with its satellite number and a signal strength bar . A dark gray bar indicates tha t the satellite is being used to determine your curr ent position.
60 PC Connect (with PC Connect cable only) Use PC Connec t to update the software of the F ishing System control head. This f eature requir es the use of the PC Connect Cable. Complete instructions are included with the PC Connect Cable accessory . NOTE: The PC Connect Cable requires a separate purchase.
61 Sonar X-Pr ess™ Menu (Sonar views only) The Sonar X-Press ™ menu pr ovides access to the settings most frequently-used. Pr ess the MENU key once while in an y of the Sonar Views to access the Sonar X-Pr ess ™ menu.
62 Side (WideSide® transducer: WideSide® view only) Side sets which transducer beam from the W ideSide® T ransducer is shown in the WideSide® V iew .
63 Sensitivity Sensitivity controls how much detail is sho wn on the display and will adjust the sensitivity of all sonar frequencies. Incr easing the sensitivity shows more sonar r eturns from small baitfish and suspended debris in the water; ho wever , the display may become too cluttered.
64 Upper Range (Advanced: Sonar, Split Sonar, Big Digits and Circular Flasher Views only) Upper Range sets the shallo west depth range tha t will be displayed on the Sonar , Split Sonar , Big Digits and Circular Flasher views.
65 Low er Range Lower Range sets the deepest depth range tha t will be displayed. A utomatic is the default setting. W hen in automatic mode, the lower r ange will be adjusted by the unit to follow the bottom. Selecting a specific setting locks the depth range into Manual mode.
66 Side Beam Range (WideSide® transducer: WideSide® view only) Side Beam Range sets the deepest r ange that will be displayed in the WideSide® V iew .
67 Chart Speed Chart Speed determines the speed a t which the sonar information mo ves across the display , and consequently the amount of detail shown. A faster speed sho ws more information and is pr eferred b y most anglers; how ever , the sonar information mo ves across the displa y quickly.
68 Bottom Lock (Sonar Zoom view only) Bottom Lock changes the mode of the Zoomed view in the Sonar Zoom V iew . Bottom Lock continuously graphs the bottom at a constant point on the displa y regardless of changes in depth. T his "flattens" out the bottom contour , but is effective a t showing fish on or near the bottom.
69 Cancel Navigation (only when Navigating) Cancel Navigation discar ds the current route and exits Navigation Mode. T his menu choice will only appear when you are curr ently navigating a route. T his will not delete a previously -saved route. T o Cancel Navigation: 1.
70 Navigation X -Press™ Menu (Navigation views only) The Navigation X -Press™ menu pr ovides access to the settings most frequently used. Press the MENU ke y once while in the Bird's Eye Vie w, the Chart or the Combo V iew to access the Navigation X -Press™ menu.
71 W aypoint [Name] (Only with an active cursor on a waypoint) W aypoint [Name] allows you to vie w the Waypoints submenu f or the waypoint under your cursor .
72 Cursor to W aypoint (Chart or Combo view only) Cursor to W aypoint allows y ou to quickly move the cur sor to any sa ved waypoint, so tha t you can locate it or edit it. NOTE: This X-Press ™ menu item appears only if you have saved waypoints. T o mov e cursor to a sa v ed w a ypoint: 1.
73 Clear Current T rack Clear Current T rack allo ws you to clear the current track being displa yed and start a new track a t the present position. T o Clear Current T r ack: 1. Highlight Clear Current T rack on the Navigation X -Press™ menu. 2. Use the RIGHT 4-WA Y Cursor Control ke y to initiate clearing the current track.
74 Skip Next W aypoint (only when Navigating) Skip Next W aypoint remo ves the next waypoint fr om the current route. T his menu choice will only appear when you are curr ently navigating a route. T o Skip Next W a ypoint: 1. Highlight Skip Next Wa ypoint on the Navigation X -Press™ menu.
75 Cancel MOB Navigation (only when MOB Navigation is activated) Cancel MOB Navigation remov es the Man Overboard (MOB) waypoint and exits Man Overboard mode. T his menu choice will only appear when you are currently naviga ting in Man Overboard mode.
76 Remov e Grid (only if a Grid is Active) Remove Grid remov es the waypoint grid fr om the display . This menu choice will only appear when a grid has already been applied to a wa ypoint. NOTE: See Add a Waypoint Target or Trolling Grid for more information.
77 W aypoint [Name] (Most recently-created waypoint) W aypoint [Name] allo ws you to view the w aypoints submenu for the most recently crea ted waypoint. NOTE: You must have pressed the MARK key at least once since you last powered up the Fishing System for this menu choice to appear.
78 Snapshot and Recording X-Pr ess™ Menu (Snapshot and Recording View only) The Snapshot and Recording X -Press ™ menu provides access to the image management and sonar recording functions. Pr ess the MENU key once while in the Snapshot and Recording Vie w to access the Snapshot and Recording X-Pr ess™ menu.
79 Start Recording (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card, Snapshot and Recording View only) Start Recording allo ws you to start sonar recor ding from the Snapshot and Recording V iew . This menu option is only a vailable when y ou have an optional- purchase MMC/SD card installed and y ou are in Snapshot and Recording V iew .
80 Delete Image (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card, Snapshot and Recording View only) Delete Image allows you to delete a single scr een capture image from the Snapshot and Recording V iew .
81 Delete Recording (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card, Snapshot and Recording View only) Delete Recording allows y ou to delete a single sonar recording from the Snapshot and Recording V iew . This menu option is only a vailable when you have an optional-pur chase MMC/SD card installed, you are in Snapshot and Recording V iew .
82 Pings P er Second (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card, Snapshot and Recording View only) Pings P er Second allows you to specify the maximum ping rate f or the sonar recording curr ently in progress from the Snapshot and Recor ding Vie w .
83 Stop Playback (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card only) Stop Playback allo ws you to stop playback of a sonar recording fr om any view . This menu option is only a vailable when you hav e an optional-purchase MMC/SD card installed and you ar e playing back a recording.
84 Sonar Menu T ab Press the MENU ke y twice to access the Main Menu System and then press the RIGHT Cursor key to select the Sonar tab. NOTE: Menu choices will vary depending on system settings such as whether the unit is set for Advanced User mode or what transducer is currently selected.
85 Beam Select Beam Select sets which sonar r eturns from the transducer will be display ed on the screen. When set to 200/83 kHz , the r eturns from both beams are blended by starting with the 83 kHz wide beam return, dimming it, and then ov erlaying it with the 200 kHz narrow beam r eturn.
86 Fish ID+ ™ Fish ID+ ™ uses advanced signal pr ocessing to interpret sonar returns, and will displa y a Fish Symbol when very selective requirements ar e met. When a fish is detected, a fish icon and its depth are displayed abo ve the return that has been classified as being a fish.
87 Fish ID Sensitivity Fish ID Sensitivity adjusts the threshold of the Fish ID+™ detection algorithms. Selecting a higher setting allows weaker r eturns to be displayed as fish. T his is useful for identifying smaller fish species or baitfish. Selecting a lower setting displa ys fewer fish fr om weak sonar returns.
88 Bottom V iew Bottom V iew selects the method used to represent bottom and structur e on the display . Structure ID® r epresents weak returns in blue and strong r eturns in red. WhiteLine® highlights the str ongest sonar returns in white resulting in a distinctive outline.
89 83 kHz Sensitivity (Advanced) 83 kHz Sensitivity changes the sensitivity of the 83 kHz beam. Increasing the 83 kHz Sensitivity will display additional weak r eturns and decreasing the 83 kHz Sensitivity will display fe wer weak returns.
90 455 kHz Sensitivity (Advanced: with QuadraBeam PLUS™ transducer) 455 kHz Sensitivity adjusts the sensitivity of the 455 kHz beam. Increasing the sensitivity will display additional weak r eturns and decreasing the sensitivity will display fe wer weak returns.
91 WideSide® Sensitivity (Advanced: with WideSide® transducer) WideSide® Sensitivity adjusts the sensitivity of the WideSide® beam. Increasing the sensitivity will display additional w eak returns and decreasing the sensitivity will display fe w weak returns.
92 Depth Lines (Advanced) Depth Lines divide the display into four equal sections which ar e separated by three horizontal depth lines. T he depth of each line is displayed along the depth scale. Y ou can either turn Depth Lines On or Off. T he Depth Lines menu choice is available when User Mode is set to Adv anced (see Setup Menu Tab: User Mode ).
93 Surface Clutter (Advanced) Surface Clutter adjusts the filter that r emoves surface clutter noise caused by algae and aeration. T he lower the setting, the less surf ace clutter will be displayed. T he Surface Clutter menu choice is av ailable when User Mode is set to Advanced (see Setup Menu Tab: User Mode ).
