With the phone turned off , hold your phone secur ely with the front facing do wn. With y our thumb or finger , lift the back co ver off fr om the small opening on the top of y our phone.

37 Phone calls Using speed dial Use speed dial to call a phone number with a single tap . For e xample, if y ou assign a contact’ s number to the number 2 k ey , you can simply pr ess and hold this ke y on the Phone dialer k eypad t o dial that number .
38 Phone calls Calling a phone number in an email On the main Home scr een, tap Mail . Open the email acc ount where the email with the number is located. In the email acc ount’s inbo x, tap the email to open it. In the email body , tap the phone number .
39 Phone calls Rec eiving calls When y ou rec eiv e a phone call from a contact, the Inc oming call screen appears and display s the caller ID icon, name, and phone number of the calling party .
40 Phone calls Setting y our phone to automatically adjus t the ring v olume Fr om the Home screen, pr ess MENU, and then tap Settings > Sound & displa y . Scr oll down the scr een, and then select Quiet ring on pickup to lo wer the ring v olume whenev er you mo ve or lift up y our phone.
41 Phone calls Using in-call options When a call is in pr ogress, use the butt ons onscreen to mut e or unmute the microphone or t o turn on or off the speakerphone. Y ou can also pres s MENU and choose whether to add a call, mut e the microphone, and mor e.
42 Phone calls Muting the micr ophone during a call On the screen, tap to t oggle between turning the micr ophone on or off . When the microphone is turned off , the Mute icon ( ) appears in the s tatus bar . Ending a call Do one of the follo wing to end the call: On the scr een, tap End call .
43 Phone calls Using Call hist ory Use the Call history t o check missed calls, y our dialed numbers and r eceiv ed calls. Checking a missed call Y ou will see the missed call icon in the status bar when y ou miss a call. 1. Slide open the Notifications panel to check who the caller is.
44 Phone calls A dding a new phone number to y our contacts fr om call hist ory On the Call hist ory screen, pr ess and hold a phone number that y ou want to sa ve to y our contacts, and then tap Sa v e to People . 2. Choose where t o sav e the number (phone, Google Ac count, or others).
45 Phone calls Call servic es Y our phone can directly link to the mobile phone netw ork, and enable you t o access and change the settings of various phone servic es for y our phone. Call servic es may include v oicemail, voic e privacy , and more. C ontact your mobile oper ator to find out about the av ailability of call services for y our phone.
46 People People About People With the People applica tion, y ou can sync your phone with c ontacts from y our Google Ac count, comput er , and Fac ebook. Y ou can also sync with work c ontacts from the Ex change Activ eSync Serv er in y our workplace .
4 7 People T r ansferring c ontacts from y our old phone Easily transf er contacts from y our old phone to y our HT C Wildfir e through Bluetooth. Depending on y our old phone’s model, y our HT C Wildfire ma y also allow y ou to transf er other types of data such as calendar ev ents.

50 People A dding a new contact Fr om the Home screen, tap > People . On the All tab, tap A dd contact at the top of the scr een. 3. Select the Contact type , for e xample Google or Microsoft Ex change Activ eSync . This det ermines which account the c ontact will sync with.

54 People Contact gr oups Assign c ontacts to gr oups so you can easily send a mes sage or email to a whole group . Y ou can also sync groups on y our phone with the groups in y our Google acc ount, accessible via y our computer’s w eb bro wser . Cr eating a gr oup Fr om the Home screen, tap > People .
55 People Sending a message or email t o a group Y ou will be charged b y your mobile pr ovider for each message sent. F or example , if you send a message to a gr oup of five people , y ou will be char ged for fiv e messages. Fr om the Home screen, tap > People .
56 People Updates and e vents tab Show s the contact’ s updates and ev ents from social netw ork accounts lik e Fac ebook, T witter , and Flickr . Y ou’ll be able to see updates such as post ed status messages, uploads, and pr ofile changes from all these ac counts.
57 P eople People widget Put the group of people y ou contact most right on the Home scr een of y our phone by adding them as the People widget. Using the People widget, y ou can instantly place a call, send a message, or vie w details of a fa v orite contact with a single tap.
58 People Getting in touch with a c ontact On the Home screen, go t o the People widget. T ap a contact (phot o not the name) on the widget. T he default c ommunication method will be performed. If y ou hav e not set a default c ommunication method, you need t o choose one first.
59 K eyboar d K e yboar d Using the onscr een ke yboard When y ou start a progr am or select a field that requir es te xt or numbers, the onscreen ke yboard bec omes av ailable. Aft er entering y our te xt, pres s BA CK to close the onscr een k e yboar d.

61 K eyboard Ent ering w ords with pr edictiv e t e xt The onscr een ke yboard has pr edictive t e xt to help you type quickly and ac curat ely . Pr edictiv e text input is enabled b y default, and w ord suggestions ar e display ed as you type.
62 Ke yboard A djusting t ouch input settings Open the T ouch Input settings by doing one of the f ollowing: On the onscr een ke yboard, tap the Language k ey (f or e xample, tap if y ou’re curr ently using the English onscr een k e yboar d). Then on the International k eyboar d options menu, tap Settings .
63 K eyboard Finger touch pr ecision Calibra tion tool T ap to r e-calibr ate the k eyboar d touch accur acy . Re-calibrat e the ke yboard if y ou feel that the ke yboard k eys ar e not responding accur ately to y our taps. Reset calibr ation T ap to reset the calibr ation back to fact ory default.
64 Messages Mes sages About Messages K eep in touch with important people in your lif e. Use the Messages application to compose and send t ext (SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS).
65 Messages 3. Fill in one or more r ecipients. Y ou can: Enter c omplete phone numbers directly in the T o field. Pr ess the Enter k ey after ent ering each phone number . Enter the firs t fe w letters of a contact name or starting digits of a mobile number .
66 Messages 4. T o add a subject line, pr ess MENU and then tap Add subject . 5. T ap the box that sa ys “T ap to c ompose”, and then enter y our message. 6. 68 Messages Send to or sa ve an email addres s contained in the message T ap the email address. T hen choose whether to send an email, send a multimedia message, or sa ve the email addres s to your c ontacts. Forw ard a message Pres s and hold the message to open the options menu, and then tap Forw ard .
69 Messages Vie wing push messages Push messages c ontain a web link. Oft en, the link will be to do wnload a file that y ou hav e reques ted, for e xample a ringtone. When y ou rec eiv e a push message, a notification icon is display ed in the status bar .
70 Messages Any lock ed messages in the con versation thr ead will not be deleted unless y ou select the Delete lock ed messages check bo x. 3. With Friend Str eam, you can easily track y our friends’ status messages, photo uploads, and w eb links - or comment and post y our own.

87 Social Chatting in Google T alk Google T alk is Google’s ins tant messaging progr am. It lets you c ommunicate with other people that also use Google T alk. Fr om the Home screen, tap > T alk . If y ou signed in to your Google A ccount when y ou first set up the phone, y ou are alr eady signed in to Google T alk.
88 Social Chatting on or off the r ecord Y our Google T alk messages are st ored, so y ou can re view them later and e ven sear ch for them in the Chats folder in Gmail/ Google Mail. But, if you’ d rather not st ore the messages in a chat, y ou can go off the rec ord.
89 Social Managing y our Friends list A dding a friend Y ou can invite any one with a Google Acc ount to become y our friend in Google T alk, so y ou can chat with each other and view each others’ online status. In the Friends list, pr ess MENU and then tap Add friend .
90 Email Email Using Gmail/ Google Mail Gmail/ Google Mail is Google’s w eb-based email service. Gmail/ Google Mail is configur ed when you firs t set up y our phone. Depending on your s ynchronization settings, Gmail/ Google Mail on your phone is aut omatically synchroniz ed with one or more Gmail/ Google Mail accounts on the w eb.
91 Email Swit ching to another Google A cc ount If y ou hav e set up mor e than one Google A cc ount on your phone, y ou can switch between ac counts in Gmail/ Google Mail. T o find out how t o set up se v eral Google Ac counts, see “ Adding mor e Google Acc ounts” in the Acc ounts and sync chapter .
92 Email T ap Delete t o delete the con v ersation from y our Google Acc ount. If you delete the c onv ersation accidentally , y ou can tap Undo in the y ellow bar at the top of the scr een to undelete it. T ap Older to see the pr evious c onv ersation in y our Inbox.
93 Email If y ou want t o send a carbon copy ( Cc) or a blind carbon cop y (Bcc) of the email t o other recipients, pr ess MENU and then tap Add C c/Bcc . 4. Enter the email subject, and then c ompose your email. 5. If you w ant to add a picture attachment, pr ess MENU and then tap A ttach .
94 Email T o unstar a message , touch its star again. Y ou can also tap a star in a conv ersation list to unstar all mes sages in the conv ersation. Labeling a con versation Y ou can organize c onv ersations b y labeling them.
95 Email Changing Gmail/ Google Mail settings 1. In the Inbo x, press MENU and then tap Settings . 2. Set the follo wing options: Signature Ent er a signature that is appended at the end of y our email messages. Confirm delete Sho w a confirmation bo x when you delete a c onv ersation.
96 Email Using Mail About Mail The Mail applica tion lets y ou send and receiv e email from y our webmail or other acc ounts, using POP3 or IMAP . It also lets y ou set up and use y our Exchange Activ eSync email on your phone . A dding a POP3/IMAP email account Fr om the Home screen, tap > Mail .

99 Email Managing email messages Deleting an email message fr om the inbox On the email acc ount inbox, pr ess and hold the message y ou want to delet e. On the options menu, tap Delete . Deleting more than one mes sage On the email acc ount inbox, pr ess MENU and then tap Delete .
100 Email If y ou want t o send a carbon copy ( Cc) or a blind carbon cop y (Bcc) of the email t o other recipients, pr ess MENU, and then tap Sho w Cc/Bcc .
101 Email Setting the priority for an email message Y ou can set the priority for an email message that y ou send. While c omposing the message, pr ess MENU. T ap Set priority . Select the priority for the message . If y ou selected High or Lo w priority , the priority appears below the subject line of the message.
102 Email Changing email acc ount settings Swit ch to the email ac count whose settings you w ant to change. Pr ess MENU and then tap Mor e > Settings . Select from the f ollowing: Ac count settings Change the email account settings such as the name, email addres s, passwor d, and description.
