Getting Started 27 Battery Y our phone comes with a rechargeable Lithium-ion or Lithium-ion polymer battery and is designed to use only manufacturer-specified original batteries and accessories. T o install the battery 1. Slide the back cover down ward to remov e it.
28 Getting Started 1.3 Charging the Batt er y New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before y ou star t using your phone, it is recommended that you install and char ge the battery. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles.

Connection Setup automatically configures your phone ’ s data connections, such as 3G/GPRS, W AP , and MMS, so that you do not need to enter the settings manually for your phone .
Getting Started 31 1.6 Home Screen The Home screen displays sta tus indicators and the HT C Home. The Home screen also gives you quick ac cess to various applications and settings that you fr equently use on your phone. 1 Click to display the Recent P rograms list and the available programs in y our phone.
32 Getting Started HT C Home HTC Home lets y ou quickly access various information, applications, and settings on your phone . Navigate through the it ems on the HTC Home b y pressing NA VIGA TION up or down. When an item is selected, press NA VIGA TION left/right to go through the available options of that particular HTC Home item.

52 Using Phone F eatures 2.1 Using the Phone Y ou can use your phone to make , receive , and keep track of voice calls , and send text messages (SMS, Short M essage Service) and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) messages. While your phone is connected, A ctiveSync (or Windows Mobile Device Center on y our PC) synchronizes every time you make a change on either the PC or your phone.

Managing your Phone 73 T o set an alarm Y ou can set 2 differen t alarms on your phone. 1. On the Home screen, scroll to the Home item and then press CENTER OK. 2. Click Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 . 3. Set the Alarm settings you want and then click Done . An Alarm icon appears on the Home item of the HT C Home.

T o add programs 1. Download the program to y our PC (or inser t the disc that contains the program into y our PC ).

Managing your Phone 79 T o disable the SIM PIN 1. On the Home screen, click Start > All Programs > Settings > Security > Disable SIM PIN . 2. Enter your PIN, and click Done . T o change the SIM PIN Be sure to make a note of your PIN. When the SIM PIN is enabled, you must pro vide this PIN to unlock the phone.

84 Organizing Phone Information 5.1 Con tacts Contacts is your address book and inf ormation storage for the people and businesses you communicate with. If you use Outlook on your PC, you can synchroniz e contacts between your phone and PC. Creat e a contact on your phone T o creat e a new contact on your phone 1.
Organizing Phone Information 85 Edit and call a contact T o view and edit a con tact information 1. On the Home screen Home tab , click Contacts . 2. Select the contact whose information you want to view or edit and click Menu > Edit . 3. When nished making changes, click Done .

96 Exchanging Messages 6.1 Messaging Messaging is where all of your email, t ext message, and MMS accounts are locat ed. When you receiv e a new message, you can open that particular message from the Home screen. Simply scroll to the r ow where the new message is and click it.

T o copy t ext from a message or email that is being written 1. In the message that is being written, position the cursor where you want to start copying from.
Exchanging Messages 99 Manage text messages T ext messages that are sent to and receiv ed from a contact (or number) are grouped as a single thread in y our inbox. Threaded SMS lets you see exchanged messages (similar to a chat program) with a c ontact on the screen.
100 Exchanging Messages T o copy a message in the thr ead to the SIM card 1. In the SMS / MMS inbox, click the message to open it. 2. Use the NA VIGA TION Up or Down control to select a message in the thread that you want to c opy to the SIM card. Note Y ou cannot copy a sent message from the thread t o the SIM card.

102 Exchanging Messages T o congure MMS settings 1. Click Start > All Programs > Settings > MMS Setting to open the Pref erences screen. 2. Select or clear the provided check boxes according to y our needs. 3. On the Pref erences screen, click Menu > MMSC Settings to access Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC) settings.
Exchanging Messages 103 Creat e and send MMS messages Y ou can compose MMS messages in a combination of various slides , where each slide can consist of a photo , audio or video clip, and/or te xt. Notes • MMS is a charged service. In order to use MMS successfully , this has to be provisioned on your mobile acc ount.
104 Exchanging Messages 6. Click Insert Audio to insert an audio clip. Select an audio clip on the Selec t Audio screen. T o record a new audio clip , click Menu > Capture Audio . 7. Click Send to send the message. Tip After inserting an MMS message element, press NA VIGA TION r ight to add a new slide.
Exchanging Messages 105 T o block a phone number from sending you MMS messages If you do not want to receiv e MMS messages from a par ticular sender , you can add the sender’ s phone number to the MMS Black list. 1. When you receiv e a new MMS message, open and view the message.
106 Exchanging Messages Set up your phone to synchroniz e Outlook email with the computer If you have installed the synchroniza tion software on your PC and created a partnership with your phone, then your phone is ready to send and r eceive Outlook email.
Exchanging Messages 107 Note Email Setup searches your phone for pr eloaded email configuration settings. If the phone cannot find the server settings for the specified email account, your phone needs to connect to the Internet and try to download the settings.

112 Exchanging Messages T o download an attachmen t In an open message with an attachment to download, click the attachment . If there is more than one attachment, click the other attachments t o download them. Y ou can directly open the file in the associated program after y ou download them by clicking the attachment again.
