11 3. Getting Ready Install and charge the battery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before y ou start using your device, it is recommended that you install and char ge the battery. T o install the battery Make sure your device is turned o.
12 T o remove the ba ttery Make sure your device is turned o. Remove the back cov er . T o remove the battery , lift it up from the top end of the battery 1. 2. 3. Charge the battery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before y ou start using your device, it is recommended that you char ge the battery.
13 W arning! • Do not remove the battery from the device while you ar e charging it using the AC or car adapter • As a safety precaution, the battery stops charging when it overheats T urn your device on and off T o turn on the power Press and hold the POWER butt on for a few sec onds.
14 Check the battery power T ap Star t > Settings > Systems tab > P ow er . The Po wer Settings screen will then open where y ou can see the current battery power level . When the battery power gets very low , a warning message will be displayed.
15 Using the Multifunction Audio Cable The supplied multifunction audio cable enables you to use a stereo headset t o listen to music while the device is connected to an A C adapter or the USB sync cable. Y ou can use the USB ster eo headset that comes with your device , or connect a headset with either a 2.
16 4. The T oda y Screen The T oday screen display s important information, such as upcoming appointments and status indicators. Y ou can tap a sec tion on the screen to open the associated program. T o access the T oday screen, tap Start > T oda y .

19 The Start Menu The Start menu, located at the top left corner of the T oday screen, displays a list of programs . Y ou can start a program by scrolling through the pr ograms list and then pressing ENTER, or by tapping a prog ram with the stylus. View Help information f or the current screen.
20 T ap this button to open the Quick Menu. • T o switch to a running program, tap the prog ram name. • T o stop running a program, tap . Customize Task Manager settings. Stop all currently running programs. Display the percentage of memory in use.

22 T ouch and hold on the touch screen and then drag your nger around the screen in any dir ection. T o continuously pan, drag your nger towar ds the boundary and hold. T he W eb page, document, or message that y ou are viewing then continuously pans.
23 6. Making a Call Like a standard mobile phone, y ou can use your device to make , receive , and keep track of phone calls and send text messages (SMS). Phone screen The Phone screen Fr om the Phone screen, you can ac cess Call History, Speed Dial, and Phone settings.

Entering Informa tion When you start a program or select a field that requires te xt or numbers, you can either use the 20-key QWERT Y hardware keyboard or one of the onscr een input methods to enter information. Using the 20-k ey QWERTY hardwar e ke yboard T o reveal the 20-key QWERT Y keyboard, slide up the fron t panel of the device.
25 Y ou can enter text, numbers, and symbols by using the 20-key QWERTY keyboard. When you select a field that requires ent ering text or numbers, the phone automatically selects the appropriate input mode. T o change the input method, press and hold and select the input method you want to use on the menu.
26 Using the On-screen K eyboard The onscreen K eyboard is available when t ext entry is possible. Y ou can enter t ext by tapping keys on the keyboard that ar e displayed on the scr een. T o enter text using the onscreen K eyboard In a program, tap the Input Selector arrow , and tap Ke yboard .
27 Using T ouch Keypad or T ouch Keyboar d T ouch Keypad simulates a wir eless phone keypad on the touch screen to allo w you to enter t ext, numbers, and symbols just as if you wer e using a wireless phone keypad.
28 8. T ext M essages Compose and send a te xt message 1. T ap Start > M essaging > T ext Messages . 2. T ap Menu > New . 3. Enter the mobile phone number of one or more recipients , separating them with a semicolon. T o access mobile phone numbers from Contacts, tap T o .
29 9. E-mail Windows Mobile ’ s E-mail Setup Wizar d lets you easily set up your personal and work e-mail accounts. Y ou can add an e-mail account from an Internet Service Pro vider (ISP) or other e-mail provider as well as W eb-based accounts such as Gmail®, Y ahoo!® Mail Plus, AOL®, etc .
30 Compose and send e-mail 1. T ap Start > M essaging . 2. On the Acc ount Picker scr een, select an e-mail account. 3. T ap Menu > New . 4. Enter the e-mail address of one or more recipients, separa ting them with a semicolon. T o access addresses and phone numbers from Contacts, tap T o .

32 Set up ActiveSync ® on Window s XP ® The Getting Started Disc that comes with your devic e contains Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 or later . Follow the steps below t o install and set up ActiveSync on W indows XP or other compatible Windo ws systems .
33 When you finish the wizard , ActiveSync synchroniz es your device automa tically . Notice that Outlook e-mails and other information will appear on your device after synchronization. 11. Brow sing the Internet Internet Explorer Mobile is a full-featur ed Internet browser , and optimized for use on your device.
34 12. Using the C amera T ak ing photos and recording video clips along with audio is easy with the device ’ s built-in camera. T o open the Camera screen Do one of the following: Press the CAMERA button all the way on your device . T ap Star t > Programs > Camer a .
35 Send by e -mail After taking a photo or recording a video clip , you can immediately send it b y e-mail: On the Review screen where it shows a preview of the photo or video that you hav e just captured, tap . Select Send via E-mail then tap Send . If you have more than one e-mail account on the device , the Select an account screen will appear .
36 13. Using C amera Album View your phot os and videos using Camera Album . C amera Album offers a host of features that let y ou rotate images , view your images as a slide show , use images as contacts pictures, and more. T o open Camera Album Do one of the following: T ap Star t > Programs > Camer a Album .
37 While viewing an image, you can advanc e to the next image or go back to the previous image; rotate the image; z oom in or out on the image, and more . T o go to the next or previous image Go to the next image by sliding your nger across the screen fr om right to left.
38 T o zoom in or out of an image With your finger , make a full-circle motion on the screen. Slide your nger clockwise to zoom in; or Slide your nger counter-clockwise to zoom out. V iew the images as a slide show 1 T ouch to open the slide show options where you can set the transition effect, time per slide, and orientation of the images.
39 14. Using Windo w s Media Play er Y ou can use W indows Media® Play er Mobile to play digital audio and video files that are stored on the devic e or on a network, such as on a W eb site . T o open W indo ws Media® Play er Mobile T ap Star t > Programs > Windows Media .
40 About the screens and menus Windows Media® Pla yer Mobile has three primary screens: Playback screen. The screen that displays the playback contr ols (such as Play , Pause , Next, Previous , and V olume) and the video window . Y ou can change the appearance of this screen by choosing a diff erent skin.
41 Tips • T o play a media file that is stored on your devic e but is not in a library, on the Library screen, tap Menu > Open File . T ap and hold the item that you want to play (such as a file or a folder), then tap Play . • T o play a media file from the Internet or a network ser ver , tap Menu > Library then tap Menu > Open URL .
42 15. Cust omizing Y our Device Y ou can customize the look and feel of your devic e and set the time and date according to the curr ent time zone. Cust omize the T oday screen T ap Star t > Settings > Personal tab > T oday . On the Appearance tab , select the desired theme for the backgr ound of the T oday screen.
43 16. Securing Y our Device Y ou can prevent unauthorized access t o any part of your device by specifying a password. Protect your de vice with a passw ord T ap Star t > Settings > Personal tab > Lock .

47 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR POWER SUPPL Y UNIT • Use the correct external pow er source A product should be operated only from the type of power sour ce indicated on the electrical ratings label. If you are not sure of the type of power sour ce required , consult your authorized service provider or local power compan y .

51 General Pr ecautions • Av oid applying exc essive pressur e to the device Do not apply excessive pr essure on the screen and the device t o prevent damaging them and remove the device fr om your pants ’ pocket before sitting down.
52 • A void pushing objects into product Never push objects of any kind into cabinet slots or other openings in the product. Slots and openings are provided f or ventilation. These openings must not be blocked or c overed . • Mounting acc essories Do not use the product on an unstable table, cart, stand, tripod, or bracket.
53 T elecommunications & Internet Association (TIA) Safety Information Pacemak ers The Health Industry Manufac turers Association recommends that a minimum separ ation of six inches be maintained between a handheld wireless phone and a pacemaker to av oid potential interference with the pacemaker .
54 The WEEE logo (shown at the left) on the product or on its box indicates that this product must not be disposed of or dumped with your other household waste. Y ou are liable to dispose of all your electronic or electrical waste equipment by relocating over t o the specified collection point for recycling of such hazardous waste.

F ailure to f ollow the directions below could result in serious bodily injury and/or property damage due to battery liquid leakage, fire or rupture.
59 • Try to keep batteries in a temperature between 41°F (5°C) and 95°F (35°C). • I f the battery is stored in temperatures abov e or below the recommended range , give it time to warm up or cool down befor e using. • Completely drain the battery before recharging.
