T o install the SIM card Remove the battery , if it is installed. Locate the SIM car d slot and unlock the SIM card lock by pressing it towar ds the battery compartment.

Getting Started 33 1.4 Charging the Batt er y New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before y ou start using your phone, it is recommended that you char ge the battery. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles . The battery is fully charged after about 3 hours of charging.

Getting Started 35 Home screen panels Navigate through the panels of the Home scr een by scrolling the TRACKBALL up or down. Scroll right or left to go through the options available on the selected panel. Open the displayed item by pr essing the TRACKBALL.

42 Getting Started Using predictive mode Predictive mode analyzes y our key presses and attempts to c omplete the word. It also tries to predict your next word based on previous sen tences you hav e entered.

Chapt er 3 S ynchronizing Informa tion with Y our C omputer 3.1 About Synchr onization Y ou can take information from your c omputer wherever y ou go by synchronizing them to your phone.

Chapt er 4 Managing your Phone 4.1 P ersonalizing Y our Phone Setting up the Home screen The Home screen is the starting place for most of the tasks you perform on your phone. Y ou can gain access to all features and prog rams from the Home screen. T o customize the Home screen On the Home screen, select Start > Settings > Home Screen .
64 Managing your Phone Setting the date, time , and other regional options Y our phone should already be set up with the regional settings that ar e appropriate for your locale . T o change regional settings Y ou can specify the language, locale, date and time style , as well as number and currency formatting options.

72 Managing your Phone 4.5 Prot ecting Y our Phone Y ou can protect your phone from unauthorized use by r equiring a PIN (personal identification number) in order to make calls . Y our default PIN is 1234. Additionally , you can also lock the keypad/keyboard or the entir e phone.

Select Prompt if device unused for , then select the amount of time for the phone to be inactive before aut omatically locking.

Chapt er 5 Organizing Phone Informa tion 5.1 Con tacts Contacts is your address book and inf ormation storage for the people and businesses you communicate with. Tip If you use Outlook on your computer , you can synchronize contacts between your phone and computer .
