Install the battery 1. Open the Battery/Memory card door by sliding the lat ch as indicated on the Battery/ Memory card door. 2. Insert the battery in the larger slot, push ing the battery in until the latch catches. 3. Close the Battery/Memory card door.
Set the region Along with the Langu age setting, the Region setting determines the default date format and the format of the video signal for di splaying camera images on a television when conn ected through an option al HP Photosmart Premium came ra dock or wireless dock base (see Using t he Setup Menu on page 39 ).
Windows If your Windows computer do es not meet the system requir ements as stated on your camera packagi ng, HP Photosmart Essential is insta lled (see About the HP Photosmart Software on page 9 ). 1. Close all programs and temporarily disable any virus protection so ftware.

2 Taking pictures and recording video clips Live View allo ws you to frame pictures and vi deo clips in the Imag e Display. To activat e Live View , press until appears briefly in the up per right corner of the Image Display. The Live View di splay looks like t his: 1 Shooting mode indicato r.
Recording video clips 1. Press until appears briefly in the upper right corner o f the Image Di splay. This indicates you are in Live View . 2. Frame the subj ect. 3. Press and release the Video butto n. 4. To stop re cording video, press and release the Video button again.
When you press the Shutter butto n halfway down, the camera focuses from the closest distance, then examines other fo cus regions, displayi ng those in focu s as green brackets.
3. Hold the Shutter button halfwa y down and re- frame. 4. Press the Shutter button all the wa y down to take the picture. Optimizing exposure When you press the Shutter butt on halfway down, the camera also measures the light level to set the proper exp osure.
The focus range setti ng remains in effect until it i s changed again, or you turn off the camera. Using zoom Your camera has both optical and di gital zoom. Optical zo om physically adjusts the le ns to make the subject o f your picture appear closer.
Auto Flash (Default)—The camera uses the flash, if nece ssary. If you want the camera to remove red eyes if they exist in images, turn on Red-Eye Removal (see Red-Eye Removal u nder Using the Captur e Menu on page 18 ). For inform ation about red eye, see Red eye on page 16 .

Bracketing —Creates a set of three imag es, each set to a differ ent value. ● Off (Default)—Pro cesses the image as norm al. ● Adaptive Ligh ting —Images create d with Adapti ve Lighting set to Off , Low , and High .
Auto Focus Area —Selects between a w ide, multi-zo ne focus region an d a spot focus region. For more information, see F ocusing on the subject on page 12 . ● Multi (Default)— Use this settin g for general-purpose pi cture taking or to focus on a subject not in the center of the scene.
Note Some Ca pture Menu options are not available in certain shootin g modes or in combination with other Capture Menu optio ns. In addition, some d o not apply when recordin g video clips. Using the Self-Timer settings The Self-Timer all ows you to take an im age or video clip 10 seconds a fter pressing the Shutter or Video button.
To add audio to imag es taken with the Burst setti ng, see Reco rding audio on page 27 . The Burst setting remains in effect until i t is chan ged again , or until it resets to the default Off setting when yo u turn off the camera. Exposure Com pensation You can use Ex posure Compensati on to override the came ra's automatic exposure setting.
Lower ISO speeds capt ure images with the least amount of gr ain (or noise), but result in slower shutter sp eeds. If taking a pi cture in low light conditions without a flash at ISO 100 , use a tripo d.
3 Reviewing images and video clips You can review an d manipulate ima ges and video clip s in Playback as described here. For information a bout enhancing ima ges, see Using the Pl ayback Menu on page 25 and Using the Design Galle ry Menu on page 29 .
Deleting images To delete a displ ayed image during Playback : 1. Press . 2. Use to select an option, then press . – Cancel —Ret urns to Playback without de leting the displa yed image.
3. Use to select an image or video clip, press , and fo llow the on-screen instructions. 4. Press to exit the Play back Menu . Image Advice —Analyzes ima ge for focus, exposure, and so f orth. Image Info —See V iewing image info rmation on page 26 .

If the currently displ ayed image already has an audio cl ip attached to it, t he Record Audio sub-menu disp lays instead when you sele ct Record Audio . ● Keep Current Clip —R etains the current au dio clip and returns to the Playback Menu . ● Record New Clip —Records a new audio clip, repl aci ng the previous audi o clip.
4 Using the Design Gallery Menu You can use the Design Gallery features to enhance your capture d images. 1. While in Playback , use to scroll to an image, t hen press . 2. Use to highlight t he Design Galle ry Menu tab. 3. Use to highlight an opt ion, then press and follow the o n-screen instructions.
– Kaleidoscope —Mirrors an image in four directio ns. – Solarize —Creates a partial reversal of tones and emp hasizes outlines. 3. Press to select the artistic effect an d display the creative sub-m enu. Follow the on-scre en instructions to adj ust the artist ic effect.
Follow the on-scre en instructions to adjust the border. 4. Press to save a copy of the image with the specif ied border and return t o the Design Gallery Menu .
When you print, the normal aspect rati os get cropped on the top and bottom (landscape) or on the sides (po rtrait). Cropping he lps ensure that t he content you want gets printe d. 3. Press to save a copy o f the cropped image and return to the Design Galler y Menu .
5 Transferring and printing images You can transfer im ages and video cl ips with or wit hout the HP Phot osmart Software t hat came with your camera. However, t he HP Photosmart Sof tware has several features for transferring and manag ing your images and al so guides you through the transfer process.
Connecting to the comp uter 1. Turn off the ca mera. 2. Connect the cam era and computer using th e USB cable that came with your ca mera, then turn on the camera. – On Windows computers, the camera appears as a device i n Explorer, allowing you to copy images from th e camera to the computer.
printer, se e Printi ng panoramas from the camera on page 35 . 1. Check that the pri nter is turned on, the re is paper in the print er, and there are no printer error messages. 2. Verify that the camera's USB Configuration is set to Digital Camera (see USB Configur ation under Using the Set up Menu on page 39 ).
6 Using HP Photosmart Express With HP Photosma rt Express , you can select sti ll images in your camera t o print automatically (see Selecting individ ual images for printing on page 37 ) or to purchase prints online (see Buying prints online on page 38 ) the next time you connect the camera to your comput er or printer.
3. Highlight Share Men u Setup... , then press . Connect the camera to your computer using the USB cable that came wit h your camera. Follow the instructions in the Share dialo g box to set up destinations in yo ur camera. 4. Disconnect the camera fro m the computer, then press to verify that the new dest inations are now in the camera.

Use to specify the number o f copies to print, then press . To deselect Print , select Print again in t he Share All Images sub-menu, set the number of co pies to 0 , then press .
7 Using the Setup Menu The Setup Menu allows you to set preference s for the camera’s behavior. 1. While in Live View or Playback , press , then use to highlig ht . 2. Use to highlight a menu option , then press to display the menu option’s sub-menu.
TV Configur ation —Sets the video signal format for displa ying camera images on a TV. ● NTSC —Used primarily in North America, parts of South America, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. ● PAL —Used primarily in Europe, Uruguay, Parag uay, Argentina, and parts of Asia.
8 Troubleshooting Use this section to find informat ion on: ● Resetting the camera (see Re setting the camera on page 41 ) ● Possible prob lems and solutions (see Problems and solutions on page 41 ) Resetting the camera If your camera does not resp ond when you press butto ns, reset the camera.
I have to recharge the Li thium Ion battery freque ntly. ● See Extending battery life on page 48 . ● A battery that i s new or has not b een charged recently must be recharg ed to reach full capaci ty. ● If you have not used the batt ery for two months or longer, rech arge it.
The lens cover is stuck and won' t move when I turn the power on an d off. ● If the lens cover is stuck open, turn the camera over an d tap firmly on the top of the camera to f ree the lens cover. ● If the lens cover is stuck closed, turn the camera over and tap firmly on the bottom of the camera to free the le ns cover.
● If the camera is warm, the effect w ill diminish as the camera cools. For best image quality, avoid sto ring the camera in very ho t locations. ● Use Image Advi ce (see Image Advi ce un der Using the Playb ack Menu on page 25 ). Images are miss ing on my camera.
I get an error m essage when transferr ing images to my com puter. Close the HP Ph otosmart Transfer Software, disconne ct the USB cable from the camera, and reset the camera (see Resett ing the camera on page 41 ). Then, rest art the image transfer process (see Transf erring images with H P Photosmart Soft ware on page 33 ).

A Managing batteries Your camera uses a rechargeable HP Photosmart R07 L ithium Ion battery (L1812A/L1812B). Top points about batteries Always insert the battery in the camera corr ectly (see Install the battery on page 7 ). If the batter y is inserted improperly, the compartment door may close but the camer a will not operate.
● Immediately discontinue use of the battery if, wh ile using, charging, or storing the battery, the battery emits an unusual smell, feels excessively hot (note that it is normal for the ba ttery to feel warm), changes color or shape, or appears abnormal in any other way.
For Minimum, Maximum, and Average numbers, four pi ctures are taken p er session with at least a 5 minute break between sessions. In addition: ● The minimum number of shots is obtained with extensive use of Live View (30 seconds per picture), Playback (15 seconds per picture), and Flash On .
● Do not operate the camera, dock, or quick recharger if the Lithium Ion battery appears damaged. ● Do not disassemble the camera, dock, or quick recharger. ● Unplug the HP AC power adapter or qu ick rechar ger from the electrical outlet before cleaning the power adapter or quick rechar ger.
