1 Product Feature s The Flat Panel Display has an acti ve matrix, thin-f ilm transistor (TFT), liquid crystal display (LCD). The monitor features include: ■ HP L1740 model, 17-inch (43.2 cm) vie wable area display , with narro w bezels. ■ HP L1940 model, 19-inch (48.

Safety and Maintenance Gui delines Ä CAUT ION: F or the protecti on of your monitor , as well as y our computer , connect all pow er cord s fo r y our computer and its per ipher al dev ices (such a s a monitor , printer , scanner) to s ome form of sur ge protecti on dev ice such as a pow er str ip or Uninterruptible P o wer Suppl y (UPS).
Safety and Maintenance Gui delines ■ Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for v entilation. These openings must not be blocked or co vered. Ne ver push objects of any kind into cabinet slots or other openings. ■ Do not drop your monitor or place it on an unstable surface.

Setting Up the Monitor Selec ting t h e Sign al Conn ectors and C a bles There are two signal input connectors: ■ VGA connector ■ D VI-D connector (av ailable on select models) The monitor will automatically determine which inputs hav e v alid video signals.
Setting Up the Monitor 1. Place the monitor in a con venient, well-v entilated location near your computer . 2. Piv ot the monitor to the portrait position. Connect one end of the po wer cable to the po wer connector on the monitor 1 , and the other end to an electrical wall outlet 2 .
Setting Up the Monitor 3. For analog operation, connect one end of the VGA signal cable to the VGA connector on the monitor 1 , and the other end to the VGA connector on the computer 2 .

Setting Up the Monitor Rem o vin g t he M on it or B a se The monitor base can be remov ed to mount the monitor on a wall, a swing arm or other mounting fixture.
Setting Up the Monitor 2. Remove the four scre ws 1 from the monitor base. 3. Remove the monitor base 2 from the monitor . Re mo v ing the Monitor Bas e Mountin g th e Monitor 1. Remove the monitor base. Refer to “Remo ving the Monitor Base” steps in the pre vious section.
Setting Up the Monitor 2. Using the screws 1 pre viously removed from the monitor base, mount the display 2 to a swing arm or other mounting fixture. Consult the documentation included with the mounting fixture for additional instructions.

4 Opera tin g t h e Monitor Soft ware and U tilities The monitor includes a CD that contains two f iles you can install on your computer: ■ an .INF (Information) file ■ an .ICM (Image Color Matching) file Adobe Acrobat Reader is supp lied on this CD and can be installed from the menu.
Operating the Monito r work through separate BNC type connectors or through distribution b uffers/box es. Y ou may need to install the .INF file if these conditions are not met. Th e I m ag e C ol o r M a t c hi n g Fi l e The .ICM file pro vides accurate color representation.
Oper ating the Monitor 6. Ensure that the proper resolution and refresh rates appear in the W indows Display control panel. ✎ Y ou may need to install the digitally signed monitor .INF and .ICM files manually from the CD in the e vent of an installation error .

Oper ating the Monitor Adjustin g Monitor Set ting s Use the On-Screen Display (OSD) to adjust the screen image based on your vie w ing preferences. T o access the OSD, do the follo wing: 1. If the monitor is not already on, press the Power switch to turn on the monitor .

After adjusting the function, select Save and Return, or Cancel if you don’t w ant to save the setting, then select Exit from the Main Menu. ✎ If the buttons remain untouched for 10 seconds while displaying a menu, the ne w adjustments will be sav ed when the OSD automatically times out and exits the menu.

Oper ating the Monitor Adjustin g Sc reen Q ualit y Allo w the monitor to warm up for 20 minutes before performing the follo wing procedures. The Auto-adjustment feature automatically fine-tunes the image quality each time a ne w video mode is utilized.
Operating the Monito r ✎ When adjusting the Clock and Clock Phase v alues, if the monitor images become distorted, continue adjusting the v alues until the distortion disappears. T o restore the factory settings, select Y es from the Factory Reset menu in the on-screen display .
Oper ating the Monitor Sleep Timer Mod e The Sleep T imer mode is an energy-sa ving feature that enables you to set a time for the monitor to po wer on and of f at the same time e very day . This also e xtends the life of the backlight bulbs in the monitor .
Operating the Monito r 9. Press the Menu button to lock in the time chosen. 10. After setting the current time, the highlight automatically skips to Set Sleep T ime hours. Repeat steps 6 through 9 to set Sleep T ime. 11. If you do not want to set Sleep T ime, press the Menu button twice, then select Sav e and Return to exit the menu.
Oper ating the Monitor C han ging t he C olor T em perature 1. Press the Menu button on the front panel of the monitor to launch the Main Menu of the OSD. 2. Select Advanced Menu to access all options in the Main Menu. 3. Select Color to display the Color T emperature menu.

D L CD Monitor Q ualit y and P ix el P olicy The TFT monitor uses high-precision technology , manufactured according to HP standards, to guarantee trouble-free performance. Ne vertheless, the display may hav e cosmetic imperfections that appear as small bright or dark spots.
L CD Monitor Quality and Pi xel P olicy T o locate defectiv e pixels, the monitor should be vie wed under normal operating conditions, in normal operating mode at a supported resolution and refresh rate, from a distance of approximately 50 cm (16 in.).
