18 User’s Guide Set tin g up Connecting pow er 1. Place the projector on a stable platform lo cated 1 to 10 m (3 to 33 ft) in front of the screen. Ideally , the platform should be lower than the bottom of the screen. ✎ Do not place the projector on a soft surf ace, such as carpet or loose cloth.

Set tin g up Use r’s Guide 2 5 Connecting a sound s ystem A high-quality 2.1 sound system is b uilt into the projector . No connections are required when using the internal D VD pl ayer . If you connect an external video source to the projector , you can also connect its audio output to t he projector’ s audio input.
2 6 User’s Guide Set tin g up If you hav e a home theater system or external sound system, you can connect the audio output from t he internal D VD player to that system. Y ou can connect a 5.1 surround sound system with fi ve speakers and a subwoofer for full surround sound (connection 1 in the following illustration).

2 8 User’s Guide Set tin g up Connecting a computer Y ou can connect a computer to the proj ector and show the computer display on the screen. This requires a D VI-to-VGA ad apter (included with the projector) and a VGA cable (not provided). Requires: ■ D VI-to-VGA adapter ■ VGA cable See “Sho wing a computer screen” on page 43.

3 2 User’s Guide Set tin g up Adjusting the focus and zoom 1. Rotate the f ocus ring until th e imag e becomes clear . The projector can be focused at distances of 1 to 10 m (3 to 33 ft). 2. Rotate the zoom ring to adjust the picture size from 100 to 116%.

5 2 User’s Guide Maint aining the pr oj ector R eplacing the la mp mod ule As the projector operates ov er time, the brightness of the projector lamp gradually decreases and the lamp becomes more susceptible to breakage. Y ou can install a new lamp at an y time to bri ng the projector up to factory-fresh brightness.

5 6 User’s Guide F ix ing pr oblems If the red l amp light is on or blinking: ❏ Allow the projector to cool do wn after it turns off. If the warning light turns on or blinks after you restart the projector , install a new lamp. If this occurs after you install a new la mp module, r emove an d reinstall the lamp module.
F i xi ng pr oble ms Use r’s Guide 5 7 If the image is out of f ocus: ❏ Be sure the lens cov er is open. ❏ While displaying the on-screen menu, adjust the focus ring. (The image size should not change; if it does, you are adjusting the zoom, not the focus.
5 8 User’s Guide F ix ing pr oblems If the image is stretched: ❏ On the projector or remote control, press the picture mode button one or more times to see if one of the pict ure modes makes the image the correct size. ❏ Press menu, go to Picture > Customize pict ur e mode > Stretch.

60 User’s Guide F ix ing pr oblems ❏ The type of disc you inserted might not be supported by the internal D VD player . If so, you cannot play this ty pe of disc. ❏ For a D VD, check its region code. Most D VDs have a re gion code marked near the center hole.

6 2 User’s Guide F ix ing pr oblems If the lamp b urns out or makes a popping sound: ❏ If the lamp burns out and makes a popping sound, the projector will not turn back on until the lamp module has been replaced. ❏ If the lamp breaks, contact HP about repairs that migh t be required due to glass fragments.
