1 - 1 1 Getting Star ted About This Manual This User’ s Guide provides installation and programming in structions for the V uque st™ 3310 area-imaging scanner . Product specifications, dimensions, warr anty , and cust omer suppor t informati on are also included.
1 - 2 2. Connect the appropriate interface cable to the device and to the terminal/computer. 3. Turn the terminal/computer power back on. The scanner beeps. 4. Verify the scanner operation by sca nning a bar code from the Sample Symbols in th e back of this manual.
1 - 3 Reading T echniques The scanner has a view finder that projects a bright green ai ming beam that corresponds to the scanner’ s hor izontal field of view . The aiming beam should be centered over the bar code, b ut it can be positioned in any direction f or a good read.
1 - 4 Y ou ma y hav e a series of custom settings and want to correct a single setting. T o do so, just scan the new setting to ov erwrit e the old one.
2 - 1 2 Pr ogramming the Interface Intr oduction This chapter describes how to progr am your system f or the desired interf ace. Pr ogramming the Interface - Plug and Play Plug and Play bar codes pro vide instant scanner set up for commonly used interf aces.
2 - 2 USB IBM SureP os Scan one of the follo wing “Plug and Play” codes to program the scanner f or an IBM SureP os (USB handheld scanner) or IBM SureP o s (USB tabletop scanner) interface . Note: After scanning one of these code s, you must power cycle the cash register.
2 - 3 USB Serial Scan the f ollo wing code to prog ram the scanne r to emulate a regular RS232-based COM P or t. If you are using a Micro- soft® Windows® PC , you will need to download a driver from the Honeywell w ebsite (www.honeywellaidc.com) . The dr iver will use the next av ailable COM P or t number .
2 - 4 V erifone ® Rub y T erminal Default Settings Scan the follo wing Plug and Play code to program the scanner f or a V er ifone Rub y ter minal. This bar code sets the baud rate to 1200 bps and the data format to 8 data bits, Mark parity bit, 1 stop bit.
2 - 5 Datalogic™ Magellan © A ux P or t Configuration Scan the follo wing Plug and Play code to program the scanner f or a Datalogic Mage llan auxiliar y por t configuration. This bar code sets the baud rate to 9600 bps and the data format to 8 data bits, no parity , 1 stop bit.

2 - 14 Ke yboar d Style This programs ke yboard styles, such as Cap s Lock and Shift Lock. If you hav e used Keyboard Co nversion settin gs, they will ov erride any of the follo wing K eyboard Style settings. Def ault = Regular. Regular is used when you normally have the Caps Loc k ke y off.
2 - 15 Ke yboar d Con version Alphabetic keyboard characters can be f orced to be all upper case or all lowercase . So if you ha ve the f ollowing bar code: “abc569GK, ” you can make the output “ABC569GK” b y scanning Con ver t All Characters to Upper Case , or to “abc569gk” b y scanning Convert All Characters to Lower Case .
2 - 16 Windows Mode Prefix/Suffix Off: The scanner sends ke y combinations for ASCII control characters for values 00-1F , b ut it does not translate a ny prefix or suffix information. Default = Control + X Mode Off. Tu r b o M o d e : The scanner sends characters to a ter minal faster .
2 - 17 A utomatic Direct Connect Mode: This selection can be used if you hav e an IBM A T style ter minal and the system is dropping characters. Default = Off .
2 - 18 RS232 Modifiers RS232 Baud Rate Baud Rate sends the da ta from the scanner to the ter minal at the specified rate. The host ter minal must be set for the same baud rate as the scanner .
2 - 19 RS232 W or d Length: Data Bits, Stop Bits, and P arity Data Bits sets the word length at 7 or 8 bits of data per characte r . If an application requires onl y ASCII Hex char acters 0 through 7F decimal (text, digits, and punctuation), select 7 data bits.
2 - 20 Pa r i t y provides a means of checking character bit patterns for v alidity . Def ault = None. 7 Data, 1 Stop, Parity Even 7 Data, 1 Stop, Parity None 7 Data, 1 Stop, Parity Odd 7 Data, 2 Stop.
2 - 21 RS232 Receiver Time-Out The unit stays aw ake to receive data until the RS232 Receiver Time -Out expires. A manual or serial tr igger resets the time- out. When an RS232 receiver is sleeping, a character may be s ent to wak e up the receiver and reset the time-out.
2 - 22 XON/XOFF Standard ASCII control characters can be used to tell the sca nner to star t sen ding data ( XON/XOFF On ) or to stop sending data ( XON/XOFF Off ). When the host sends the XOFF character (DC3, he x 13) to the scanner , data transmission stops.
2 - 23 Scanner -Bioptic A CK/NAK Mode Bioptic A CK/NAK On must be scanned so the scanner will wait f or an A CK or NAK from a bioptic scanner after each pack et is sent. The Scanner-Bioptic ACK/NAK Timeout (below ) controls ho w long the scanner will wait for a response.

3 - 1 3 Input/Output Settings P ower Up Beeper The scanner can be programmed to beep when it’ s powered up . Scan the Off bar code(s) if you don’t w ant a power up beep . Def ault = Po wer Up Beeper On - Scanner . Beep on BEL Character Y ou may wish to f orce the scanne r to beep upon a command sent from the host.
3 - 2 Good Read and Error Indicator s Beeper – Good Read The beeper may be programmed On or Off in response to a good read. T ur ning this option off only tur ns off the beeper response to a good read indication . All error and menu beeps are still audible.
3 - 3 Beeper Pitch – Err or The beeper pitch cod es modify the pitch (frequency) of the s ound the scanner emits when there is a bad read or error . Def ault = Razz. Beeper Duration – Good Read The beeper duration codes modify the length of the beep the scanner emits on a good read.
3 - 4 Number of Beeps – Good Read The number of beeps of a good read can be programmed from 1 - 9. The same n umber of beeps will be applied to the beeper and LED in response to a good read. For e xample, if y ou program this option to hav e five beeps , there will be five beeps and five LED flashes in response to a good read.
3 - 5 Manual T rigger Modes When in manual trigger mode, the scanner scans until a bar code is read, or until the b utton is released. T wo modes are av ail- able , Normal and Enhanced . N orma l mode offers good scan speed and the longe st working rang es (depth of field).
3 - 6 Read Time-Out Use this selection to set a time-out (in millisecond s) of the scanner’ s button when using serial commands to tr igger the scanner . Once the scanner has timed out, you can activ ate the scanne r either by pressing the button or using a serial trig- ger command.
3 - 7 Presentation LED Beha vior after Decode When a scanner is in presentation mode, the LEDs dim 30 seconds after a bar code is decoded. If yo u wish to dim the LEDs immediately after a bar code is decoded, scan th e LEDs Off bar code, below . Def ault = LEDs On.
3 - 8 In the e xample below , the white bo x is the center ing window . The center ing window has been set to 20% left, 30% r ight, 8% top , and 25% bottom. Since Bar Code 1 passes through the center ing window , it will be read. Bar Code 2 does not pass through the center ing window , so it will not be read.
3 - 9 CodeGate ® When CodeGate i s On , the button is used to allow decoded data to be tr ansmitted to the host system. The scanner remains on, scanning and decoding bar codes, but the bar code data is not transmitted until the button is pressed. When CodeGate is Off , bar code data is transmitted when it is decoded.
3 - 10 Mobile Phone Read Mode When this mode is selected, your scanner is optimiz ed to read ba r cod es from mobile phon e or other LED d isplays . Howe ver , the speed of scanning pr inted bar codes may be slightly lower wh en this mode is enabled.
3 - 11 Activa tion Character This sets the character used to trigger scanning when using Character Activation Mode. On the ASCII Conversion Chart (Code Page 1252) , page A-3 , find the hex value that represents the char acter you want to use to trigger scanning.
3 - 12 Character Activa tion Timeout Y ou can set a timeout f or the length of time the illumi nation remains on and attempting to de code bar codes when using Character Activation Mode.
3 - 13 User -Specified Reread Delay If you w ant to set your o wn length for the reread dela y , scan the bar code below , then set the delay (from 0-65,535 millisecon d s) by scanning digits from the inside back co ver , then scanning Save . 2D Reread Dela y Sometimes 2D bar codes can take longer to read than other bar codes.
3 - 14 Aimer Delay The aimer delay allows a delay time f or the operator to aim th e scanner bef ore the pi cture is taken. Use these codes to set th e time between when the button is pushed an d when the picture is taken. During the delay time, the aiming light will appear, b ut the LEDs won’t turn on until the dela y time is ov er .
3 - 15 If a bar code is not touched by a predefined window , it will not be decoded or output by the scanner . If Centering On is check ed, the scanne r only reads codes that pass through the center ing window you specify using the T op of Centering Wi n- dow , Bottom of Centering Window , Left , and Right of Centering W indow selections .
3 - 16 Preferred Symbology The scanner can be programmed to specify one symbology as a hig her pri ority over other symbologies in situations where both bar code symbologies appear on the same label, but the lower priority symbology cannot be disabled.
3 - 17 If you want to set additional low prio rity symbolo gies, scan FF , then scan the 2 digi t hex v alue from the Programming Char t f or the next symbology . Y ou can program up to 5 low priority symbologi es. Scan Save to save your selection. Def ault = None .
3 - 18 5. End Output Sequ ence Editor Scan F F to enter an Output Sequence fo r an additional symbol ogy, or Save to save your entries. Other Pr ogramming Selections • Discard This exits without saving an y Output Sequence changes.

3 - 20 When the output sequen ce is Off , the bar code data is output to the host as the scanner decodes it. Default = Off . Note: This selection is unavailable wh en the Multiple Symbols Selection is turned on .
3 - 21 Video Rever se Video Rev erse is used to allow the scanner to read bar codes that are invert ed. The Video Rever se Off b ar code below is an e xample of this type of bar code. Scan Video Rever se Only to read only inv er ted bar codes. Scan Video Reverse and Stan- dard Bar Codes to read both types of codes.
3 - 22 * Upright Vertical, Bottom to Top Upside Down Vertical, Top to Bottom.
4 - 1 4 Data Editing Prefix/Suffix Overview When a bar code is scann ed, additional information is sen t to the host compute r along with the b ar code data. This group of ba r code data and additional, user-defined data is call ed a “message str i ng.
4 - 2 Example: Add a T ab Suffix to All Symbologies Step 1. Scan Add Suffix . Step 2. Scan 9 , 9 from the Programming Chart inside the back cover of this manual to apply th is suffix to all symbologies. Step 3. Scan 0 , 9 from the Programming Chart inside the back cover of this manual.
4 - 3 Function Code T ransmit When this selection is enabled and function codes are contai ned within the scanned data, the sca nner transmits the functi on code to the te rmin al. Char ts of the se function codes are provided in Supported Interface Ke ys star ting on page 9-3 .
4 - 4 Inter character , Interfunction, and Intermessage Dela ys Some ter minals drop information (characters) if d ata comes thr ough too quickly . Intercharacter , interfunction, and in ter messag e delays slo w the transmission of data, increasing data inte grity .
4 - 5 Interfunction Delay An interfunction delay of up to 5000 milliseconds (in 5ms increments) may be placed between the transmission of each control character in the message stri ng.

5 - 1 5 Data Formatting Data Format Editor Intr oduction Y ou may use the Data F or mat Editor to chang e the scanner’ s output. For e xample, you can use the Data Format Editor to inser t characters at cer tain points in bar code data as it is scanne d.
5 - 2 Step 5. Lengt h Specify what length (up to 9999 characters) of data will be a cceptable for this symbolog y. Scan the four digit data l ength from the Programming Chart inside the back cover of this manual. For ex ample, 50 characte rs is entered as 0050.
5 - 3 Data Format Editor Commands When working with th e Data F or mat Editor , a vir tual cursor is moved along your input data stri ng. The follo wing commands are used to both mov e this cursor to different positions, and to select, replace, and inser t data into the final outpu t.
5 - 4 F1 is the “Send all characters” command 0D is the he x value f or a CR The data is ou tput as: 1234567890 ABCDEFGHIJ <CR> Send all chara cters up to a particular character F3 Include i.
5 - 5 E9 and F4 Example: Send all b ut the last characters, f ollowed by 2 tabs Send all characters except f or the last 8 from the bar code above, f ollowe d by 2 tabs.
5 - 6 B3 and B4 Example: Insert the symbology name and length Send the symbology name and length before the bar code data from the b ar code above . Bre ak up these inser tions with spaces.
5 - 7 Mov e the cu rsor forward 3 characters, then send the rest of the bar code data from the bar code above . End with a carriage re tur n. Command string: F50 3F10D F5 is the “Move the cursor for.
5 - 8 F1 is the “Send all characters” command 0D is the he x value f or a CR The data is ou tput as: DEFGHIJ <CR> Sear ch back ward f or a character F9 Search the input message backward for “xx” character from the current cursor position, leaving the cursor poi nting to the “xx” character.
5 - 9 30 is the hex v alue for 0 F1 is the “Send all characters” command 0D is the he x value f or a CR The data is ou tput as: 37692 <CR> Sear ch back ward f or a non-matching cha racter E7.
5 - 10 02 is the total count of characters to be replaced, plus the replacement characters (0 is replaced by CR, so total char- acters = 2) 30 is the hex v alue for 0 0D is the he x value f or a CR (t.
5 - 11 F1 is the “Send all characters” command 0D is the he x value f or a CR If this bar code is read, the ne xt data format, if there is one, will be used on this data. If there is no other f or mat, the format fails and the r aw data is output as 1234AB .
5 - 12 Choose one of the follo wing optio ns. Def ault = Data Formatter On, Not Requi red, K eep Prefix/Suffix. Data Format Non- Match Err or T one When a bar code is encountered that doesn’ t match your required data f or mat, the scanner nor mally generates an error tone.
5 - 13 Single Scan Data Format Change Y ou can also switch between data fo r mats for a single scan. The next bar code is scanned using an alter nate d ata f or mat, then re ver ts to the format you ha ve select ed abov e (either Primar y , 1, 2, or 3).

6 - 1 6 External Input / Output The V uquest 331 0 scanner can be integrated wi th a variety of third par ty devices. The External T r igger and Illumination Con- trols can be configured using the bar codes in this chapter. Thes e controls off er simple trig ger signals.

7 - 1 7 Symbologies This programming section contains the f ollowing menu selections. Ref er to Chapter 11 f or settings and defaults . All Symbologies If you want to decode all the symbologies al lowab le for y our scanner , scan the All Symbologies On code.
7 - 2 EXAMPLE: Decode only those bar codes wi th a count of 15 characters. Min. length = 15Max. length = 15 F or a value other than the minimum and maximum message length def aults, scan the bar codes.
7 - 3 Codabar Concatenation Codabar suppor ts symbol concatenation. Whe n you enab le c oncaten ation, the scanner look s for a Codabar symbol having a “D” star t character , adjacent to a symbol having a “D” stop character . In this case the two messages are concatenated into one with the “D” characters omitted.
7 - 4 Code 39 < Default All Code 39 Settings > Code 39 On/Off Code 39 Star t / Stop Characters Star t/Stop characters identify the leading and trailing ends of the bar code. Y ou ma y either transmit, or not transmit Star t/ Stop characters. Def ault = Don’t T ransmit.
7 - 5 Code 39 Message Length Scan the bar codes below to change the message length. Refer to Message Length Description (page 7-1) for additional inf or mation.
7 - 6 Full ASCII If Full ASCII Code 39 decoding is enabled, cer tain characte r pairs within the bar code symbol will be inter preted as a single character . For e xa mple: $V will be decoded as the ASCII ch aracter SYN, and /C will be decoded as the ASCII character #.
7 - 7 Interleaved 2 of 5 < Default All Interleaved 2 of 5 Settings > Interleaved 2 of 5 On/Off Check Digit No Check Digit indicates that the scanner rea ds and transmits bar code da ta with or without a check digit.
7 - 8 NEC 2 of 5 < Default All NEC 2 of 5 Settings > NEC 2 of 5 On/Off Check Digit No Check Digit indicates that the scanner rea ds and transmits bar code da ta with or without a check digit.
7 - 9 NEC 2 of 5 Message Length Scan the bar codes below to change the message length. Refer to Message Length Description (page 7-1) for additional inf or mation.
7 - 10 Code 93 Append This function allows the scanner to append the data from sev eral Code 93 bar codes tog ether before transmitting them to the host computer .

7 - 14 Code 11 <Default All Code 11 Settings> Code 11 On/Off Check Digits Required This option sets whether 1 or 2 ch eck digi ts are required with Code 11 bar codes. Def ault = T wo Check Digits . Code 11 Message Length Scan the bar codes below to change the message length.
7 - 15 Code 128 <Default All Code 128 Settings> Code 128 On/Off ISBT 128 Concatenation In 1994 the Inter national So ciety of Blood T ransfusion (ISBT) ratified a standard for communicating critical blood inf or ma- tion in a uniform manner . The use of ISBT f or mats requir es a paid license.
7 - 16 Code 128 Append This function allows the scanner to append the data fro m se vera l Code 128 bar codes together before transmitting them to the host computer .
7 - 17 GS1-128 <Default All GS1-128 Settings> GS1-128 On/Off GS1-128 Message Length Scan the bar codes below to change the message length. Refer to Message Length Description (page 7-1) for additional inf or mation. Minimum and Maximum lengths = 1-80.
7 - 18 Te l e p e n <Default All Telepen Settings> T elepen On/Off T elepen Output Using AIM T elep en Output, the scanner read s symbols with star t/stop patter n 1 and decodes them as standard full ASCII (star t/stop patter n 1).
7 - 19 UPC-A <Default All UPC-A Settings> UPC-A On/Off Note: To convert UPC-A bar codes to EAN-13, see Convert UPC-A to EAN-13 on page 7-24. UPC-A Check Digit This selection all ows you to specify whether the check digit sh ould be transmitted at the end of the scan ned data or not.
7 - 20 UPC-A Addenda This selection adds 2 or 5 digits to the end of all scanned UPC-A data. Def ault = Off for both 2 Digit and 5 Digit Addenda. UPC-A Addenda Required When Required is scanned, the scanner will only read UPC-A bar code s that hav e addenda.
7 - 21 UPC-A/EAN-13 with Extended Coupon Code Use the follo wing codes to e nable or disable UPC-A and EAN-13 with Extended Coupon Code. When left on the default setting ( Off ), the scanner treats Coupon Codes and Extended Coupon Codes as single bar codes.
7 - 22 UPC-E0 <Default All UPC-E Settings> UPC-E0 On/Off Most U. P .C. bar codes lead with the 0 number system. T o read these codes, use the UPC-E0 On selection. If you need to read codes that lead with the 1 n umber system, use UPC-E1 (page 7-24).
7 - 23 UPC-E0 Addenda Separator When this feature is On , there is a space between the dat a from the bar code and the data from the addenda. When turned Off , there is no space. Default = On. UPC-E0 Check Digit Check Digit specifies whether the check digit should be transmitted at the end of the scanned data or not.
7 - 24 UPC-E1 Most U .P .C. bar codes lead with the 0 number system . For these codes, use UPC-E0 (page 7-22). If you need to read codes that lead with the 1 number system, use the UPC-E1 On selection.
