Y our vehicl e has a supplemental restraint system (SRS) with f ront airbag s to help p rotect the heads and ch es ts of the dr iv er an d a f ro nt se at passenger during a mode rat e to seve re f r onta l collision (se e page f or more inf ormat ion on how your f ront a irbags w ork).
T he rest of t his section gives more det ailed inf ormat ion about how y ou can ma ximize your saf et y. Remember, however, that no s af et y system ca n prevent all injuries or deaths that can occ ur in a severe crash, even when seat belts are proper ly worn a nd the airba gs deploy.

If you s i t too c lo se to th e ste eri n g wheel or dashboar d, you can be seriously injur ed by an inf lat ing f r ont airba g, or by str iking the s tee ring wheel or dashboar d. Once your seat is adjusted correctly, rock it back and f ort h to make sure the seat is lock ed in position.
Adjust the d river’s head restraint so the c en ter o f th e ba ck o f yo u r he ad rest s against t he cent er of t he restraint. R eclining a s eat -back so tha t t he shoulder par t of t he belt no longer rests a gainst the occupant’s chest reduce s the prot ect ive c apabilit y of the belt.
T hi s spreads the f orces o f a crash over the s tronge st bones in y our upper body. Insert the la tch pla te int o the buckle, the n tug o n th e be lt to m ake s ur e the belt is secure ly lat ched. Check tha t the b el t is n o t twis ted , b ec au se a twi ste d be l t can c au se s eri o us injuries in a cra sh.
Af t er all oc cup ants have adju sted their seat s and head rest raints, and put on their seat belt s, it is very im p or tan t that the y co n tin u e to si t upright , well bac k in the ir seat s, wit h the i r f eet on th e f l oo r, u nti l th e vehi cle i s saf ely parke d and the engine is of f .
If you a re pregna nt, t he best w ay to prot ect yourself a nd your unborn child whe n driving or riding in a vehi cle i s to always wear a seat bel t, and keep the lap part of the belt as low as pos sible acr oss the hips .
If your hand s or arms are cl ose to an airbag c over, they co ul d be inj ured if t he a irbag inf lat es. Objects on the covers ma rked ‘‘SRS A IR BAG’’ could inte rf e re wit h the pr oper opera tion of t he air bags or be propelled inside t he ve hicle and hurt some one if t he airba gs inf lat e.
Y our seat belt syst em includes lap/ shoulder be lts in a ll seat ing posit ions. T he f r ont seat belt s are also equipped w ith aut omat ic sea t be lt te nsioners. If either the driver or a f ront passenger does not f asten t heir seat belt w hile driving, t he beepe r will sound and t he indicat or w ill f las h agai n at regul ar intervals .
T he l ap and sho ul der be lt goes o ver your shoulder , across your che st, and a cross your hips. To f aste n th e be lt, in s ert th e la tch plat e into t he buck le, the n tug on t he belt t o make sur e the buck le is lat ched (se e page f or how to proper ly position t he belt).
For saf ety, you should check the condit ion of your se at belts regular ly. Pull each belt out f ully, and look f or f ra ys, cut s, burns, and we ar. Check tha t the l atch es w or k sm o oth l y an d the be lts retr act e as il y. If a be lt d o es not ret ra ct easily , clea ning the belt may correct the probl em (see page ).

Duri ng a f rontal crash , your se at belt rest ra ins your lower body an d torso, and t he f r ont a irbag he lps prot ect you r head and c hest. A lthough bot h air bags norma lly inf la te w ithin s plit sec ond of ea ch othe r, it is possible f or only one airbag to d eplo y.
Y our f r ont a irbags are a lso dual- thr eshold airba gs. A irbags wit h this f eat ure have two deploymen t thr esholds t hat depend on whet her sensor s det ect t he occupa nt is wearin g a seat belt o r n ot.
T he dri ver’s advan ced f ron t airbag system includes a sea t position sensor under t he seat . If t he seat is too f ar f orw ar d, the a irbag will inf late wit h less f orce, regardless of the severity of t he impact.
When t he passe nger air bag get s tur ned of f by t he weight sensors, a ‘‘passe nger airba g of f ’’ indica tor in the c en ter o f th e da sh b oa rd c om es on (se e page ). Be aware that obj ects pl aced o n the pass enge r’s seat can also cause th e airbag to b e turned of f .
Y our vehicle h as a side a irbag cut of f system designed primar ily to protect a child r iding in the f ront passenge r’s seat. A lthough Honda does not encoura ge children t o ride in f ront , if posit ion sensors detect a child has leaned in to the s ide airba g’s deployment pat h, the airba g will shut of f .
In a mod erate t o severe side i mpact, sensor s will det ect ra pid accele rat ion and signa l the c ontrol unit t o in s tan tly i n f la te the s i de c ur tai n airb ag and activate the seat belt te nsioner on the drive r’s or t he passenger ’s side of t he vehicle.
Whe n you turn t he ignit ion swit ch to the ON (II) pos ition, t his indicat or comes on b rief ly then goes of f . T his te lls you the sy stem is w orking proper ly. If the in d ic ato r co me s on a t any othe r time, or does not c ome on at all, you shou ld have t he system checked by you r dealer.
If the in d ic ato r co me s on w ith n o f r ont seat passe nger and no obje cts on th e se at, o r with a n ad ul t rid i ng there, something may be interf ering with t he weight sensors. Look f or and remove: A ny items unde r the f ront passenger’s seat .
If w ate r or an oth er l iq u i d so aks i n to the s eat- back, it can preven t the side ai rbag cutof f system f rom working proper ly. Th i s c o ul d ma ke th e drive r’s sea t posit ion sensor or the f ront pa ssenger’s weight sensor s inef f ect ive .
− − − Children d epend on adul ts t o protect them. However, despite their best inte ntions, ma ny adult s do not know how to protect child passengers. If you have children, o r ever need to drive wit h a child in your vehicle , be sure t o rea d this se ction.
− Whenever possible, large r childre n should sit in the ba ck seat, on a booster sea t if needed, and be proper ly rest raine d with a s eat belt ( see pa ge f or import ant inf or mat ion about prot ecting la rger children). Fr ont air bags ha ve been de signed to help prot ect adult s in a mode rat e t o seve re f ront al collision.
− T o remind you of t he passenger ’s f r ont air bag haz ards, a nd tha t chil dren m ust be pro perly restrain ed in a back se at, your veh icl e has w a r n i n gl a b e l so nt h e d a s h b o a r d (U.S. models) and on t he f ront visors. Ple ase read and f ol lo w t he inst ruct ions on the se labels .
− Many parents say they pref er to put an inf ant or a s mall child in t he f r ont passenger seat so t hey can w atc h the child, or beca use the c hild requires at te ntion.
− Children w ho play in v ehicles ca n accide nta lly get t ra pped inside. T eac h your childr en not to pla y in or around ve hicles. K now how to op e rate th e em er ge n cy tru n k opener a nd decide if your childr en should be show n how t o use t his f e a t u r e( s e ep a g e ) .
A n inf ant must be properly rest ra ined in a re ar- f ac ing, reclining child sea t unt il the child rea ches t he seat ma ker’ s weight or height limit f or the se at , and t he child is at lea st one year old. Only a rear -f a cing child se at pr ovides proper suppor t f or a baby’s he ad, neck, a nd back.
In any of t hese situat ions, we str ongly recommend t hat you inst all the child seat direct ly behind t he f ront passenger’s seat, move t he seat as f ar f orward as neede d, and l eave it unoccupied. Or , you may wish t o get a sma ller re ar-f ac ing child seat .
In seat ing posit ions and v ehicles not equipped wit h L A T CH, a L A T CH- compat ible child se at can be ins talle d using a sea t belt . What ever t ype of seat you choose, to provide proper pr otec tion, a child seat should meet three require ments: L ook f or F MV SS 213 or CMV SS 213 on t he box.
A f ter selecting a pro per child seat an d a go od p l ac e to in sta ll th e se at, the re ar e thr ee m ai n s tep s in inst alling the seat : A ll child sea ts must be secured t o the vehicle w ith t he lap part of a lap/s houlder belt or w ith th e LATC H (Lo w er An ch o r s an d T ethers f or CHildren) system.
Place t he child sea t on t he vehicle se at, th en attac h th e sea t to the lower anc hors acco rdin g to the child seat make r’s inst ructions. Y our ve hicle is equipped w ith LATC H ( Lo w e r An c h o rs a n d Tethe rs for CH il d ren ) at the o u ter rear seats.
What ever type you have, f oll ow the c hi l d se at mak er ’s i ns tru cti o ns f or adjust ing or t ightening t he f it. Ot her L A T CH-c ompatible s eat s hav e a f lex ible-t ype connect or as shown abov e. Adju s t the he ad r es trai n t to i ts lowest posit ion.
T o activate the l ockab le retractor, slowly pull t he shoulder par t of t he belt all the wa y out until it stops, the n let t he belt f e ed back int o t he re trac tor . A f t er t he belt has re tra cte d, tug on it. If t he belt is locked, y ou will not be able to pull it out.
A f t er conf ir ming tha t the belt is locked, gr ab t he shoulder part of the belt near t he bu ckle, and pu ll up to remo ve any slack f rom the lap par t of t he belt. R e member, if the lap pa rt o f the be lt i s no t tig h t, the c hild seat will not be se cure.
A ch il d seat with a t ether can b e inst alled in any seat ing posit ion in the b ac k se at, u si n g o ne o f th e anchor age point s shown a bove. Since a t eth er can prov ide addit ional se cu ri ty to th e la p/ s ho u ld e r be lt inst allat ion, we r ecommend using a tet her whenever on e is requi red or avail able .
Whe n a child rea ches t he recomme nded weight or height limit fo r a fo r w a rd - fa ci n g c h i l d se a t , t h e child should sit in a back sea t on a bo o ste r se at an d we ar th e la p/ shoulder belt .
Does t he shoulder belt cross be twe en th e ch il d ’s n ec k and a rm ? Is the la p part of the belt a s low as possible, t ouching the c hild’s thi g hs ? Will t he child be able t o sta y seat ed like t his f or the w hole tr ip? If you answer yes to all these quest ions, the ch ild is ready t o wear the lap/shoulder be lt corr ect ly.
A child may c ontinue using a booster seat unt il the t ops of the ir ear s are eve n wi th th e to p of the veh i cl e’ s o r bo o ste r’ s sea t-b ac k. A chi l d of this height should be ta ll enough t o use the lap/shoulde r belt without a bo o ste r se at.
If you decide that a child can saf ely ride up f r ont, be sure t o: Car ef ully r ead t he owner’ s manual, and ma ke sure y ou underst and a ll seat be lt instr uctions and all saf ety inf or mat ion. Mo ve th e ve hi cl e s eat to th e re ar- most posit ion.
Your vehi cle ’s exh aust con tains car bon monoxide gas. Ca rbon monoxide should not ent er t he vehi cle in n orm al drivi ng if you maint ain your v ehicle proper ly and f ollow the inf orma tion on t his page. High lev els of c arbon monoxide can collect ra pidly in enclosed a rea s, suc h as a garage.

If you turn t he steering wheel to the f ull lef t or right pos ition repea tedly while s topping or dr iving at ve ry low speed, you may f eel slightly harder steering due to overheating of the steering gearbox. Continuously driving under those condit ions could damage t he power steering system.
T his indicat or nor mally comes on f or a f ew seconds when you turn the ig n iti o n s wi tch to th e O N (II ) posit ion. If it comes on while driving, it indica te s that one or mor e of your vehic le’s tir es ar e signif ica ntly low on press ure.
I f i t c o m e so na n ds t a y so na t a n y othe r time, or if it does not come on when you t urn t he ignit ion switc h to the O N (II) posit ion, ther e is a problem w ith t he V SA syst em.
If this indicator comes on when you tur n the i g ni ti on s wi tch to th e ON (II) posit ion and r eleas e the parking brake, i t means there i s a probl em w i t ht h eD R L .T h e r em a ya l s ob ea problem w ith t he high bea m head lig hts. Have y our veh icl e checked by your dealer.

Make sure t he rear window is clear and you ha ve good v isibility bef or e sta rti ng to d ri ve . T he rear window defogger will clear fo g , fr o s t , a n d th i n i c e fr o m th e window. Push t he def ogger but t on to tur n it on a nd o ff . T he i n di ca tor i n the b u tton c om e s on to s ho w the def ogge r is on.
Push the lev er under t he steer ing column all the way down. Pu s h the l eve r up to l oc k the st eering w heel in posit ion. Make sure you have securely locked the steering wheel in place by tr ying to mov e it up, dow n, in, and o ut. Make any steering wheel adju stments be f ore you start drivi ng.
* * The ma ste r key fits a ll th e l oc ks o n your vehicle. T he valet key works only in t he ignition a nd the dr iver ’s door lock . Y ou can k eep t he tr unk and t runk r elease handle lock ed when you leave your vehicle and the va let key at a par king f acilit y.
If the syst em repeatedly does no t recogniz e the coding of your ke y, contact your dealer. Do n o t attem pt to al ter th is s ys tem or a dd oth er d e vi ce s to i t. E le ctr ic al problems could result t hat may make your vehicl e inope rable. If you ha ve lost your ke y and cannot sta rt your engine, conta ct your dealer.

T o lock the passenger ’s door when get ting out of t he ve hicle, pull out the loc k ta b and close t he door. T o loc k t he dri ver’s doo r, pul l and hol d the out side door handle t hen pull out the lock tab. R elease the handle, the n close the door .

Push the elect rical connector back onto t he bulb. Make sure it is on all the way. T urn on the headli ghts to t est t he new bulb.
