Fasten the front fence rail to the rail brackets with the two rail bracket knobs, as shown in Figure 10 , going into the front rail nuts.
- 1 6 - G06 2 1 Wood / Metal Band saw 18. Use the tilt bracket knob to secure the table tilt bracket to the bandsaw body, as shown in Figure 13 . Tighten the hex nut on the tilt bracket knob against the tilt bracket to secure it in place. Figure 13. Knob securing table tilt bracket.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 1 7 - "Blade T racking" refers to how the blade rides on the wheels. When trac king correctly , t he blade rides in t he center of the r im par t of the wheels. Blade tracking is primarily c ontrolled by adjust- ing the upper whe el tilt.
- 1 8- G0 621 W ood / Metal Bandsaw Blade Centered on Peak of Crow n Blade Centered on Wheel CENTER TRACKING Figure 19. Center tracking profiles. NOTICE Changes in the blade tension may change the blade tracking. 6. Loosen the lock nut on the blade tracking knob threads so the blade tracking knob will rotate for adjustments.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 1 9- A properly tensioned blade is essential for mak- ing accurate cuts and is a prerequisite for making many bandsaw adjustments. The blade tension is adjusted by rotating the blade tension lever. To tension the bandsaw blade: 1.
-20- G 0621 W ood / Metal Bandsaw 7. Tighten the lock bolt. 8. Loosen the thumbscrew on the support bear- ing adjustment shaft. 9. Position the support bearing approximately 0.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 21 - The blade guides provide side-to-side support to help keep the blade straight while cutting. The blade guides adjust in two ways—forward/back - ward and side-to-side. Properly adjusted blade guides are essential to making accurate cuts.
-22- G062 1 Wood / Metal Band saw NOTICE Whenever changing a blade or adjusting tension and tracking, the upper and lower blade guides and guide-blocks must be re- adjusted before cutting operations. NOTICE The blade guides should not touch the blade after the dollar bill is removed.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw -23- T o ensure cut ting accuracy , the fence must be parallel with t he miter slot. To align the fence parallel with the miter slot: 1. If the fence is mounted on the left-hand side of the blade, remove it and remount it on the right-hand side of the blade.

G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw -25- The bands aw is o ne of the most ve rs atile wood cut ting tools in the sho p. It is capable of per form - ing the following t ypes of c uts: St rai ght Cut s • Miter.
-26- G0 621 W ood / Metal Bandsaw • When cutting metal, pay attention to the char- acteristics of the chips when cutting—they are good indicators of proper blade speed and feed rate. Figure 30 shows the basic chip characteristics and what they mean.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 27 - When cut ting wood, "Ripping" means cut ting with the grain. For ply wood or metal, r ipping simply means cut ting down the lengt h of the workpiece. T o make a rip cut : 1. Adjust the fence to match the width of the cut on your workpiece, then lock the fence in place.
-28- G0 62 1 Wood / Metal Band saw "R es awi n g" ( Fi gu r e 3 4 ) me an s c ut ti ng t he workpiece into t wo or more t hinner workpie ces. One of the most impor tant con siderations for resawing is b lade selection — a wide blade cuts straighter and is les s prone to blade lead (see Page 4 1 for more info on blade lead).
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw -29- One of the benefits of a bandsaw is its ability to cut multiple copies of a par tic ular shape by stack - ing workpiec es together and c utt ing them as one. Before making st acked c uts, ensure that both the table and the blade are properly adjusted to 9 0°; otherwise, any error will be co mpounded.
-3 0 - G0 62 1 Wood / M etal Bandsaw Selecting the right blade for the cut requires a knowledge of various blade characteristics. Bl ade Len gth Measured by the c ircumference , blade lengths are usually unique to the brand of you r bandsaw and the distance b etween wheels.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw -3 1 - To oth Pit ch Usually measured as TP I (te eth per inch), tooth pitch determines the siz e /number of the teeth. More tee th per inch (fine pitc h) will cut slower , but smoother; while f ewer teeth per in ch (coarse pitch) will cut rougher , but faster .
-32- G0621 W ood / Metal Bandsaw Bl ade S electi on ( M etal C ut ti ng) .
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw -33 - To replace the blade: 1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER! 2. Release the tension lever. 3. Remove the table insert and the table pin. Adjust the upper and lower guide blocks away from the blade. 4. Open the upper and lower wheel covers and slide the blade off both wheels.
-3 4- G0 621 W ood / Metal Bandsaw 4. If the reading on the scale is not the same as the width of the cut workpiece, loosen the screws on the magnifying window ( Figure 40 ) and adjust it to match the width of the cut workpiece. 5. Tighten the screws; the scale is now correctly calibrated.

-3 8- G 0621 W ood / Metal Bandsaw Symptom Possible Cause Possible Solution Mac hine s lows when o per atin g. 1. Feeding workpiece too fast. 2. Blade is dull. 1. Reduce feed rate. 2. Replace blade ( Page 33 ). Tic ki ng sou nd when t he saw is run ning.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw -39 - Ser vic i ng V - Belts 3. Use a flashlight to inspect the belt. — If a V-belt is cracked, frayed, or glazed, replace it as soon as convenient. 4. Replace the pulley cover, lower wheel, and blade; then close the lower wheel cover.
- 40 - G0 621 W ood / Metal Bandsaw 4. Pivot the motor and slide the idler pulley to loosen the V-belts. 5. Remove old V-belts and install the new V- belts. 6. Slide the idler pulley down to tighten the lower wheel V-belt, hold pressure on the idler pulley, then tighten the mounting nut.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 4 1 - To ensure accuracy when cutting stacked workpieces, the table should be 90˚ to the back of the blade as shown in Figure 47 . If the table is not perpendicular to the back of the blade, the table needs to be shimmed.
- 42- G062 1 Wood / Metal Band saw Wheel alignment, or "Coplanar Tracking," is one of the easiest ways to ensure you get optimal per - formance from your bandsaw.
G0621 Wood / Metal Bandsaw -43 - 4. Remove the blade from the saw, then remove the wheel that needs to be shimmed. 5. Determine how many shim washers you need and place them on the wheel shaft. 6. Replace the wheel, the original washers, and the securing nut.
