9 INTRODUCTION Remote Control ote The remote control uses one set of playback buttons to operate both decks: To use the VCR, first press the VCR button. To use the DVD, first press the DVD button. DVD & VCR select buttons Sets the remote control to operate either the DVD deck or the VCR deck.
10 Rear Panel Do not touch the inner pins of the jacks on the rear panel. Electrostatic discharge may cause permanent damage to the unit. VCR IN LINE 1 (VIDEO IN/AUDIO IN (Left/Right)) Connect the audio/video output of an external source (Audio system, TV/Monitor , Another VCR).
11 PREP ARA TION Connections T ips Depending on your TV and other equipment you wish to connect, there are various ways you could connect the DVD+VCR. Use connections described on pages 1 1-13. Please refer to the manuals of your TV , VCR, Stereo System or other devices as necessary to make the best connections.
12 Connections (Continued) Basic TV Connections Make one of the following connections, depending on the capabilities of your existing equipment. RF coaxial connection Connect the RF .OUT jack on the DVD+VCR to the antenna in jack on the TV using the supplied 75-ohm Coaxial Cable (R) .

14 On-Screen Display (OSD) The On-Screen display provides feedback on the cur- rent status of the DVD+VCR. ❶❷ ❸ ❹ ❺ ❻❼ ❶ T APE SPEED DISPLA Y Shows the current tape speed. ❷ FUNCTION DISPLA Y Indicates the function in progress. ❸ HI-FI DISPLA Y Indicates when this unit is playing back tape recorded in Hi-Fi.
15 PREP ARA TION VCR Operation Setup (Continued) Setting the VCR Setup Menu 1 1 Press MENU and the MAIN menu will appear . 2 2 Press v v / V V to select the SETUP menu, then press ENTER. The SETUP menu will appear . 3 3 Press v v / V V to choose a desired option on the SETUP menu.
16 VCR Operation Setup (Continued) Setting the Clock The DVD+VCR gives you two ways to set the time and date: the Auto Clock Feature or manually . The Auto Clock Feature enables the DVD+VCR to set the clock when the DVD+VCR is turned off. Auto Clock Set The Auto Clock Set feature is set to ON at the factory .

General Explanation This manual gives basic instructions for operating the DVD+VCR. Some DVDs require specific operations or allow only limited operations during playback.
18 DVD Operation Setup (Continued) Initial Settings In this menu system, there are several ways to cus- tomize the settings provided. Most menus consist of three levels to set up the options, but some require greater depth for the variety of settings.
19 PREP ARA TION DVD Operation Setup (Continued) AUDIO Each DVD disc has a variety of audio output options. Set the player ’s Audio Output according to the type of audio system you use.
20 DVD Operation Setup (Continued) LOCK Rating Movies on DVDs may contain scenes not suitable for children. Therefore, discs may contain Parental Control information that applies to the complete disc or to certain scenes on the disc.
21 Operation with tape OPERA TION Normal Playback Preparation: T urn on the TV . T une the TV to the DVD+VCR output channel (CH 3 or 4) or set the TV’ s source selector to VIDEO. If a direct VIDEO/AUDIO connection is made between the DVD+VCR and the TV , set the TV’s source selector to VIDEO.
22 Operation with tape (Continued) Normal Recording Preparation: T urn on the power of both the DVD+VCR and TV . T une the TV to the DVD+VCR output channel (CH 3 or 4) or set the TV’ s source selector to VIDEO.
23 OPERA TION Operation with tape (Continued) 1 1 0 0 Use V V to choose the SPEED option. Use b b / B B to choose the desired recording speed (AUTO, SP or SLP). AUTO mode determines how long tape is left and switches speed from SP to SLP , if necessary , to complete recording the program.
24 Operation with tape (Continued) Instant Timer Recording Instant T imer Recording allows you to make a recording easily of a preset length without using the program timer . Preparation: T urn on the power of both the DVD+VCR and the TV . Be sure the TV is tuned to the DVD+VCR output channel (3 or 4).
25 OPERA TION Operation with tape (Continued) VHS Hi-Fi Stereo System/ MTS Broadcast This DVD+VCR is equipped with the VHS Hi-Fi audio sound system for recording and playback. The informa- tion below gives a brief description of Hi-Fi audio and how to record and play a tape in the Hi-Fi audio mode.
26 Operation with tape (Continued) T ape Counter Memory Feature Real-Time Counter Shows length of tape run in hours, minutes, and sec- onds. Press CLK/CTR to select the real-time counter display . Every press of CLK/CTR changes the TV screen as illustrated below .
27 OPERA TION Operation with DVD Playing DVD Playback Setup T urn on the TV and select the video input source con- nected to the DVD+VCR. Audio system: T urn on the audio system and select the input source connected to the DVD+VCR. Set the Output Source to DVD as shown in “Setting the Output Source” on page 6.

T o use the disc menu, press DISC MENU. Then, press the appropriate number button to select an option.
30 Operation with Audio CD and MP3/WMA Discs Playing an Audio CD and MP3/WMA Discs The DVD+VCR can play an audio CD. Also, the DVD+VCR can play MP3/WMA formatted recordings on CD-ROM, CD-R or CD-RW discs. Before playing MP3/WMA recordings, read the notes on MP3/WMA Recordings on the right side of this page.

Operation with Photo Disc Vie w ing a Photo Disc This DVD+VCR can play discs with JPEG files. Before playing JPEG recordings, read the "Notes on JPEG Recordings" at right. 1 1 Insert a disc and close the tray . The JPEG menu appears on the TV screen.
33 Programmed Playback WMA MP3 CD Programmed Playback with Audio CD and MP3/WMA Discs The Program function enables you to store your favorite tracks from any disc in the player memory . Program can contain 99 tracks (Audio CD) or 300 tracks (MP3/WMA).
T roubleshooting 34 Symptom No power . The power is on, but the DVD+VCR does not work. No picture. No sound. The playback picture is poor . The DVD+VCR does not start playback. The remote control does not work properly . Cause The power cord is disconnected.
