introduction This Diagnostic Repair Manual has been prepared especially for the pur pose of familiarizing ser vice per- sonnel with the testing, troubleshooting and repair of air-cooled, automatic standby generators. Every effor t has been expended to ensure that inf or mation and instructions in the manual are both accurate and cur- rent.
P age 11 GENERAL INFORMA TION sEctioN 1.2 iNst alla tioN Basics introduction Inf or mation in this section is provided so that the ser vice technician will hav e a basic knowledge of installation requirements for home standby systems. Problems that ar ise are often related to poor or unau- thorized installation practices .

P art 1 meaSurinG current CLAMP-ON: T o read the current flow , in AMPERES, a clamp-on ammeter may be used. This type of meter indicates current flow through a conductor by measur ing the strength of the magnetic field around that conductor .
GENERAL INFORMA TION sEctioN 1.5 tEstiNG, clEaNiNG aND Dr YiNG Component testing may require a specific resis - tance value or a test for INFINITY or CONT INUITY . Infinity is an OPEN condition between two electrical points, which would read as no resistance on a V OM.
