1 1 Using Y our EV730 Monitor The EV730 monit or is a high-resolution c olor monitor with: ■ 1280 × 1024 maxi mum resolution ■ Unlimited colors ■ Excellent contrast a nd legibility ■ Reduced power usag e The microprocessor-based on-screen display (OSD) controls let you adjust a va riety of image set tings.
2 Chapter 1: Using Your E V730 Monitor www .g ate wa y .com Setting up the monitor Setting up th e monitor consists of two procedures: attaching the base a nd connecting the monitor ca bles. If you are setting up your comp uter for the first time, see the setup poster for more informati on about connecting a dditional perip heral d evices.
3 Setting up the monit or www .gatew ay .com T o connect the power and video cables: 1 Position the monitor and your computer so you can easily get at the back panel of each. Make sure that all power cables can reach a correctly grounded electrical outlet.

T o maintain FCC standa rds, only use the cord that c ame with the monitor . 5 Plug the other end of the po wer cord into a correctly g rounded electrical outlet.
5 Setting up the monit or www .gatew ay .com Remo ving the bas e T o remove the base: 1 T urn off your comput er , then disconnect the monito r’ s power cable.
6 Chapter 1: Using Your E V730 Monitor www .gatew ay .com Star ting the monitor T o start the monitor: 1 Press the power button. The p ower LED turns green, and the monitor demagnetizes itself for about three seconds.
7 Starti ng the monit or www .gatew ay .com 2 T urn on your computer . 3 After your computer is run ning, the power LED on the monitor should be green. If not, check the connections. Fo r more troubleshooting information, see “T roubleshooting” on page 17.

11 Adjus ting moni tor settings www .gatew ay .com Software controls Adjusting the colo r depth and screen resoluti on are two of the mo st basic monitor sett ings you may need to change. Adjusting the color depth Color depth is the number of colors the video card uses.

For example, you can increase the resolution t o fit more icons on your desktop, or you can decrease the resolut ion to make reading and identifying objects on the monitor easier .

No picture ■ Make sure that the monit or is turned on. ■ Make sure that the power cord is connected correctly to both the back of the monitor and the wall outlet.

T o reset the monitor settings: 1 Restart your computer , then press and hold F8 while your comput er is starting up .
