The syst em board 25 7 Loosen the retaining screw at th e back (right side) of the chassis. 8 Slide the system board toward the front of the chassis slightly , t o disengage it from the st and-o ff retention hooks (see illustration under “ To install the system boar d: ” ), then remov e it carefully .

28 Syst em Components Replacing or ad ding a pr ocessor The syst em is co m patible with the Intel ® Pentium ® III 667 and 733 MHz a nd faster proce ssors with 133 MHz front-sid e bus (FS B).
The syst em board 29 6 Repeat t he previous two steps for the other side of the p rocessor . 7 Pull the processor up and out of the slot. 8 Al ig n the new p roc ess or wit h the proces s or s l ot (note that t he proce ss or slot is keyed so the proce ssor can only be inst alled one way) an d press firmly to install it.

The syst em board 31 ■ RIMM m odu les must b e installed sy me trically into b oth chan nels, that is, if a RIMM is in stalled in RIMM-1 (Channel A), t he same size, density , type, and sp eed RIM M mus t be in stalled in RIMM -3 (Channel B ), likewise for R IMM-2 and RIMM-4.

Extra sets of rails are in cluded with yo ur system (clipped to the drive cage) and are used fo r the installation.

68 Usi ng the BIOS Confi gurat ion Manager Updating t he BIOS Flash memo r y sim plifies distributing BI OS up grades. If yo u ne ed a n ew ve rsion of the BIOS, y ou can dow nlo ad the BI OS updat e fro m tech nica l sup port on the Gateway W eb site and install the n ew version from a diskette.
Updatin g the BIOS 69 T o update the BIOS: 1 Place the bootable diskett e conta ining the BIOS files int o drive A: then restart the co mpute r . 2 The BIOS u pdate progr am will run. 3 The BIOS updat e program will let you know wha t to expect when you attempt to update the BIOS and will give you a choice to updat e or not.
