Slide the panel forw ard until it is loc ked into place. 5. Secure th e panel with the scre ws y ou remo ved w hen y ou remo ved t he wrap-arou nd panel.

Installing Components 33 Clear CMOS jump er JP15 lets y ou clear al l cur rent v alues in complimentary metal-o xide semiconductor (CMOS) memory . CMO S memor y stores all of the BIOS Setup information and setti ngs. Clearing the CMOS memory restores all setup v alues to the original system de f aults.
34 Maint aining and Troubleshooti ng the Gateway ALR 8300 Server SHM mode jumper The SHM mode jumper i ndicates w hether the system boa rd is installed in a to w er or rack sys tem. When the system board is instal led in a to w er chassis, lea ve the j umper pins unconnected.
Installing Components 35 Instal ling memo ry and har d ware Installing memor y The system board supports up to 2 GB of RAM in unbuf fered ECC SDRAM DIMMs. System memor y is PC 100 compliant. The system board is c onf igured with 4 DIMM banks. Y ou can f ill Bank 0, Bank 1, Bank 2, or Bank 3, or a combination of banks with DIMMs.

Adding and replacin g dr iv es The case must be opened t o add or change dri ves (such as disk dri ves and CD-R OM dri ves) in t he system.

Installing Components 39 Installing a dr iv e in the 5.25-inch drive ba y Y ou can use the 5.25-inch driv e ba y to install a CD-R OM dri v e, tape dri ve, or other 5.25-i nch device. 1. T urn off the system and disconnect t he po w er cord. 2. Open the case, observing the ESD preca utions in “Static ele ctricity precautions” on page 2.

Slide the dri v e into the ba y until the connector makes contact with the SCA connector on the backp lane (see Fi gure 23).
Installing Components 45 SCSI cab le kit installation The follo wing section describes ho w to instal l the SCSI cab le kit from the inte g rated onboard SCSI connec tor on the system board to the rea r panel of the chassis.

Troubleshooting 77 V iruses are inacti ve u ntil the infec ted program is e xecuted , or a boot record is read. Thereaf ter , the virus loads itsel f into system memory and begins to cop y and spread it self. Disket tes used in a contaminated s ystem can get infected and , in turn, transfer the virus when use d in another system.
