1 1 Installation This guide provides information on converting your Gateway server to a rackmount configuration and installing your Gateway server in a cabinet.
2 I n s t a l l a t i o n Converting to rackmount T o convert the server to a standa rd 19-inch ( 48.26 cm) rack-mounta ble drawer , you need to remove the unneeded hardware and tower beze l, then install th e new bezel and mounting hardware.
C o n v e r t i n g t o r a c k m o u n t 3 5 Remove the two screws securing the front access panel to the chassis. 6 Slide the front a ccess panel to th e back and pull outward to remove. 7 Remove the single screw securing the top to th e chassis. 8 Slide the top p a nel to the back, t hen pull it off.
4 I n s t a l l a t i o n Changi ng the be zel T o remove the tower bezel: 1 W ith the tower in the upright position, open t h e system door and lift the door so tha t the hinge pins (2) come out of the hinge- pin sockets. 2 Pull the door away from the bezel and set it aside.
C o n v e r t i n g t o r a c k m o u n t 5 3 Beginning at the top left inside edg e of the bezel, depress the plastic retention tabs toward the outsid e edge of the bezel, and pull the bezel out from the chassis slightly , enough to keep the tabs from snapping back into place.
6 I n s t a l l a t i o n Remo ving the feet T o remove the feet: 1 T urn the server upside down. 2 Using a flat-bladed screwdriver , remove the screws secu ring th e feet to the bottom of the ch assis. 3 Slide each foot to the left, releasing i t from the chassis, then remove.

If you are installing the server in a non-Gateway cabinet, go to “ Installing generic mou nting brackets ” on pa ge 13.
10 I n s t a l l a t i o n 3 Attach the front mounting bracket to the front vertica l mounting rail using two screws from the accessory kit. 4 Position the bac k mounting bracket (labeled REAR ) on the back vertical mounting rail. 5 Attach the b ack mounting bracket to the back ve rtical mounting rail using two screws from the accessory kit.

12 I n s t a l l a t i o n 3 Align the f ront of the cabinet mounting rail to the front mounting bracket by sliding the in ne r rail an d inner slide until the rail screw hole opening lines up with o ne of t he front mounting bracket screw holes.
Installi ng the cabine t mount ing bracke ts and mounti ng rail s 13 Installin g generic mounting brackets If you are installing the server in a non-Gateway cabinet, use the generic mounting brac kets. These brackets allow for different cabinet depths.
14 I n s t a l l a t i o n 4 Position the back mounting bra cket (longer bracket) on the back vertical mounting rail. 5 Attach the b ack mounting bracket to the back ve rtical mounting rail using two screws from the accessory kit.
Installi ng the cabine t mount ing bracke ts and mounti ng rail s 15 2 Attach the back e nd of the c abinet mounting ra il to t he back mounting bracket using two screws, hex nuts, and star washers from the accessor y kit. One screw must be located in the last back bracket screw hole.
16 I n s t a l l a t i o n Mounting the system drawer in the cabinet T o mount the system drawer in the cabinet: 1 Pull both of the inn er rails forward until the spring latches o n each side lock.
Mounti ng the system dra wer in the cabinet 17 3 Lift the system dra wer to the same height as th e inner rails, then a lign the system drawer side rails wit h the inner slides. 4 Push the system d rawer evenly into the cabinet until the latches on the system drawer side rails lock.
18 I n s t a l l a t i o n 5 Press the latches on both sides of the system drawer side rails, then p u sh the system drawer back unt il the inner rail spring latches lock. 6 From the back si de of the cabinet, releas e the spring lat ch on the inner rail while pushing the sy stem drawer to the back of the cabinet.
Installi ng the cable retrac tor 19 Installing the cable retractor Cable retractors reduce strain on the drawer cables and c onnectors and simplify maintenance because they keep the cables out of the way . I f you are installing a c able retractor in a Gateway cabinet, refer to the following section.
20 I n s t a l l a t i o n Installing a ca ble retractor in a non-Gatewa y cabinet T o install a cable retractor in a non-Gateway cabinet: 1 Remo ve the ad apter bracket fr om the cab le retracto r straight br acket.
C o m p l e t i n g t h e c o n n e c t i o n s 21 Attaching the cables to the retractor T o attach the cables: 1 Route the cables from the ba ck of the system drawer to the ca ble retractor .
22 I n s t a l l a t i o n Connecting a s ingle system drawer T o connect the peripherals: 1 T urn off all system drawers and devices in the cabinet before attaching any of the system drawer ca bles. 2 Connect all I/O devi ce cables (keyboard, mouse, vid eo, serial, and parallel) to their respective ports on the back of the sy stem drawer .
C o m p l e t i n g t h e c o n n e c t i o n s 23 Connecting multiple system dr awers Multiple system drawers installed in a cabinet ca n share a single set of peripherals if a switch box, such as an autoswitcher , is installed.
24 I n s t a l l a t i o n The system I/O connect ors may appear different than in the illustration, depending on the system board installed in the server . If connecting multiple system draw ers, you must connect extender cables to the system drawers used.
C o m p l e t i n g t h e c o n n e c t i o n s 25 Connecting the power Gateway recomm ends that a license d electrician install a d e dica ted 230 V AC line, with sufficient amp erage rating for the s ystem drawer , to a breaker box or distribution panel.
26 I n s t a l l a t i o n If rack mounted units are installed in a closed or multi-rack cabinet, they may require further evaluation by Certification Agencies. The a mbient temperature within the cabinet may be greater than room temperature. Make sure the amount of air flow requ ired for safe operation is not compro mised.
Turning off t he system drawer 27 7 When the system drawer starts successfully , install the operating system, if necessary . 8 T urn on the other system drawers by repeating Steps 3 through 7 for each additional system drawer installed. After this procedure, the system drawer can be turned on using normal start sequences.
28 I n s t a l l a t i o n Securing the system drawer in the cabinet T o secure the system drawer: 1 C l o s e t h e b a c k d o o r o f t h e s y s t e m c a b i n e t , t h e n l o c k i t i f n e c e s s a r y . 2 Push the system drawer all the way back into the cabinet until the front panel presses against the fro nt vertical mountin g ra ils.
