2 About y our Gatew a y 610 Media C enter PC The Gatew a y 610 Media Center PC provides po werful computing and rich enter tainment capabilities . Y ou can r un the Windows XP Media Center while using other programs or just enjo y the Windows XP Media Center in full-screen mode without using other programs .
3 Video source — Make sure that y ou ha ve access to a video source bef ore star ting your Media Center PC setup . Y our Media Center PC receives video input from a coaxial or an S-Video cable . The video source usually comes from an antenna, a direct cable TV connection, a cable bo x, or a satellite receiver .
4 Setting up the hardwar e Connect y our broadband Internet (optional) Connect the modem (optional) Connect the audio/video source A coaxial (TV in) connection carries both the audio and video signals. If you use an S-Video connection, you will also need to connect audio using RCA stereo plugs.

12 Setting up optional connec tions Tip: Many TVs use interlaced video . Interlaced video displays a video frame with two passes of alternating scan lines. The TV screen first displays the video image odd lines one at a time, sequentially from top to bottom, then it fills in the other half of the video image with the even lines.

28 L earning about the k e yboar d Use the ke yboard to na vigate and select the Windows XP Media Center menus and options and perf orm other activities such as typing an e-mail. Tip: The keyboard has a range of 6.5 feet (2 meters) and performs best with a maximum angle of 85 degrees from the center of the screen in all directions.
29 U sing My T V Chapter F our • W atch Liv e TV • View the Guide and select TV prog rams • Schedule, record, and sor t TV program recordings. • Search f or progr ams by categories, title , or ke yword.
30 W a tching T V Y ou can take control of y our TV vie wing experience with My TV . Use My TV to watch TV , record TV , watch b uff ered (time-shifted) TV , watch recorded progr ams, search f or programs , change TV settings, and more.
31 U sing the remot e to pla y T V rec ordings My TV automatically records TV programs to a prog ram buff er as you watch TV . When you stop or pause liv e TV programs , My TV continues recording (buff ering) the program f or up to 30 minutes so you can watch the program where y ou pre viously left off .
32 On the remote, press the Rew button u ntil you locate the point on the TV program that you w ant to repla y , then press the Play button. The b uff ered program pla ys and live TV continues to record to the buff er .
33 U sing the Guide The Guide displa ys channel and TV progr am inf or mation, TV program titles , descriptions, categories, ratings, and program times . Y ou can view and scroll through the list of current and future TV shows in the Guide. When you select a program title , inf or mation about the program displa ys below the progr am listings.
34 2 On the remote, press the My TV button. The Windows XP Media Center My TV star ts. 3 Na vigate to Settings , then press the OK button. The Settings menu opens. 4 Na vigate to Guide , then press the OK button. 5 Na vigate to Get Guide data, then press the OK button.
35 T o set up a recording from the Guide 1 On the remote, press the Guide button. The Guide opens. 2 Highlight the TV program you w ant to record, then press the Record button. The record icon appears ne xt to the program to indicate the recording has been scheduled.
36 T o change program recording settings 1 On the remote, press the Guide button. The Guide opens. 2 Highlight the program that y ou ha ve scheduled to record, then press the OK button. The Program Inf o window opens . 3 Highlight a menu option, press the OK b utton, then change the record settings to your pref erences.
37 In Recorded TV you can: • Select Sort by date , Sort by name , or Sort by category to set your prog ram list vie wing pref erence. T o pla y , delete, or keep a recorded prog ram until a specifi ed date , navigate to a recorded progr am, then press the OK button.
38 Changing My T V S ettings Use My TV Settings to customize the Windows XP Media Center My TV . Y ou can adjust settings for the TV recorder , Guide, TV signal, display settings , audio , and My TV . T o use the Settings menu 1 On the remote, press the My TV button.
39 3 Use Sort by date , Sort by name , or Sort by category to locate the recorded TV program you want to record to D VD . 4 Use the remote to highlight the TV program or programs that y ou want to record, then press the OK button.
40 Tip: Recordable DVDs have a 4.7 GB maximum capacity . If the TV program you want to record is long enough to require more than 4.7 GB of recording space, you can reduce the Windows XP Media Center program recording quality setting before recording the program.

42 Adding m usic files to the Media Library The Windows XP Media Center My Music w orks with the Windows Media Pla y er . Use the Windows Media Pla yer to add, delete, categorize , and organize music. Then use the Windows XP Media Center My Music to vie w , sor t, play , and search f or music.
43 3 If this is the fi rst time you’v e added music fi les to the Media Library , clic k Yes . The Media Pla yer searches f or all music fi les on your Media Center PC and adds them to the Media Library .
44 3 On the left side of the Media Pla yer , click Copy from CD , then click Copy Music . The Copy Options (1 of 2) dialog bo x opens. Tip: When adding music files to the Media Library and playing fil.
45 3 Highlight the CD selection, highlight Play or Shuffle , then press the OK button. The Now Pla ying menu opens and the CD pla ys. Y ou can play m usic CDs with Windows XP Media Center’ s My Music.
