5 1. PRELIMINAR Y STEPS P ass the smaller loop end of the strap through the camera’ s strap lug. Ne xt, pass the longer loop end of the strap through the smaller loop , and pull the longer loop end.
6 Open the batter y cov er in the arro w direction as shown in the figure . Inser t the batteries straight as sho wn in the indications so that the y are not at a slant, then close the batter y cov er . ✻ After changing the batter y , be sure to set the date again.
7 Chec k the batter y capacity sign on the Liquid Cr ystal Displa y . q on: Batter y capacity is OK. w o n : Battery capacity is insufficient; provide a ne w batter y . e b link: Shutter release will not trip because the batter y has no charge; change the batter y .
8 When the pow er is tur ned on, the lens cov er opens , the lens unit e xtends to ward the front and the flash unit pops up , setting the camer a in a condition where it is ready to tak e pictures. ✻ Do not restrict the motion of the lens cov er with y our fingers when you turn the power on.
9 Press the D A TE button to select the ne xt n umber b linking in the order Y ear → Month → Da y → Hour → Minute . Press the r b utton q to correct the numer als blinking in the liquid crystal display .
10 With the Adv anced Photo System The date (y ear/month/da y , hour/minute) can be printed on the front and back of the print. F rontpr inting, which can be seen when inser ted in an alb um, and bac kpr inting, which is con v enient f or cataloging. Either can be used depending on the pur pose.
11 The date mode will alter nate as shown in the diagr am whene v er the D A TE Button is pressed. ✻ The date mode will be displa yed in the [Y ear , Month, Da y] sequence when the date is realigned e ven when a date mode other than [Y ear , Month, Da y] has been selected.
12 Mak e sure that the film car tridge mar k H is not displa yed in area A of the Liquid Cr ystal Displa y . ✻ If H and “ B ” are lit on the Liquid Cr ystal Display , y our camera contains a film car tr idge already e xposed. Remov e the film car tridge, f ollowing the instructions on page 23.

Ev en when any one of the C/H/P pr int format has been selected, the size of the photog raph on the film remains the same (appro x. 17 x 30mm). Pr int f or mat selection will record the print format f or each frame and the e xposure will be pr inted within the r anges shown in the abo ve illustr ations.
18 Ensure that fingers or the camera str ap are not obscuring the lens of flash assembly . Press the zoom le ver T mark until the required le v el of zoom has been acquired when the subject is to be magnified. Press the W mar k to obtain the wide- angle zoom.
19 Aim at the subject so that it fills the whole AF frame . ( A : AF (A utof ocus) frame) When the shutter release b utton is pressed halfwa y and the AF lamp (green) tur ns on, f ocusing is complete. ✻ While the shutter release b utton is pressed halfwa y , the film speed and T ype of film is indicated in the Liquid Cr ystal Displa y .

21 ● In the f ollowing cases, the camer a ma y not be ab le to f ocus on the subject. Such subjects must be shot using the “AF-loc k” or “Landscape Mode”. (re f er to pages 2 1 and 33 ) q A bright light source such as the sun is near the subject or there is reflected light (from the windscreen of a v ehicle, w av es, etc.
22 Mov e the camera slightly so that the subject is inside the AF frame . Press the shutter release button halfw ay do wn and confir m that the AF lamp lights without moving the camera. (F ocus is lock ed on your subject in this condition.) Fig. 31 Fig.

24 When the e xposure counter shows “ B ” and the motor stops, mo v e the film car tridge compar tment cov er release knob as indicated in q , in the direction indicated in w , and open the film car tridge compar tment co v er .
25 Press the Mid-Roll Change Button to re wind the film when the car tridge is to be ejected in the middle of the roll. Do not remov e the car tridge until “ B ” is displa yed in the e xposure counter and the rewind motor has ceased to operate . ✻ When re winding a roll of film which is only par tially e xposed.
26 Press in the Mid-Roll Change Button. The film counter will displa y as it subtracts from the number of frames . When re winding is completed, “ B ” will be displa yed b y the film counter .
27 Remov e the car tridge and sign sure the sign j appears white. ( A : Film car tridge with une xposed frames) Load a ne w film car tridge (with a white i car tr idge status mark). The film will be advanced to the first frame , and number of e xposures specified on the film car tridge will appear in the LCD .
28 When a car tridge that was remo v ed in mid-roll j is re-loaded, the film will automatically be adv anced to the first une xposed frame. After that, oper ation is as bef ore. ✻ Ev en if y ou f orget how man y frames were e xposed on a car tridge that was remo v ed in mid-roll, just re-load the car tridge.
✻ A car tridge remov ed in mid-roll k from a camera which does not ha v e the Mid-Roll Change function cannot be used e v en if loaded into this camera. ✻ If a car tridge is remov ed in mid-roll j and sent to the processor , all frames on the entire roll will be de veloped.
30 No displa y : Multi program flash mode Used during nor mal e xposures The amount of flash released will be automatically adjusted in accordance with the brightness, distance and magnification of the subject. ✻ The flash lamp does not fire f or br ight long- distance scenes.
