17 Getting Ready 2 Load the b atteries correctly as indicated by the polari ty ico ns. CAUTIO N Match the polarity icons ( + and , ) of the batteries to those on the inside of the battery cover.

19 Getting Ready Load ing the Me mory Card Although you can store pictu res i n the came ra’s i nternal memory, you can stor e many more images on the Memory C ard (so ld separ ately). You can u se the xD- Pictur e Card and the S D Mem ory Card w ith the Fi nePix A610 an d Fine Pix A800 .
20 Load ing t he Memo ry Card CAUTIO N Be sure to unlock the protection of the SD Memory Card before inserting it. If it is locked, recording/deleting images, as well as formatting are not available. To unlock the protection, slide the switch back, and the SD Memory Card will work normally.
21 Getting Ready CAUTIO N • Whe n storing Memory Cards, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. A Memory Card could be swallowed and ca use suffocation. If a child swallows a Memory Card, seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.

23 Getting Ready Setting the language, date, an d time When usin g the camera for the firs t time after pur chasing, the lan guage, da te, and time are cleared . Set the langua ge, date, and tim e. 1 screen app ears when turning the camera on. 2 Set the date and time .

27 Using the Camera Taki ng Pic tures (AU TO Mo de) This section describes th e basic operat ions. 1 Turn the cam era on. A Press POW ER down f ully to turn t he camera on. B Set the M ode dial to q (FinePix A800 only). CAUTIO N Step B is only for FinePix A800.
28 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) 2 Check the composition on the L CD monitor. To adjust zoom scale u sing the Zoom switc h: MEMO • S elect e Macro mode to take close-up shots ( ➝ p.51). • U se digital zoom when you want to shoot the subject closer ( ➝ p.

30 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) Flash Change the flash mode when you wan t to take pictures without flash. See p.52 for information on flash. CAUTIO N • The image shown on the LCD monitor before the picture is taken may differ in brightness, color, etc.
31 Using the Camera Taking pictures with the focus and exposure locked In th e abov e compo sit ion, the su bject s (two peopl e in th is case) are not in th e AF fra me. Press ing the sh utter b utton halfway at this point will result in the subje cts being out of focus.
32 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) 3 Continue t o hold the sh utter bu tton down halfway. Move the camera back to the original image and p ress the shutter b utton full y. CHECK When using FinePix A610, the camera makes a beep sound and takes the picture when you press the shutter button down fully.
33 Using the Camera Adjusting the shot composition Select the LCD monitor display. Press DISP/BACK to cha nge the LCD monitor display. Position the m ain subject at the interse ction of two lines in this fr ame o r align o ne of the hori zontal lines wit h the horizo n.
34 Viewing the Im ages Play back your image s to check th em. For im portant photogra phs, alw ays take a test sho t and view the im age to mak e sure that the c amera is wor king nor mally . Settin g the camera to Playback mode Press w d urin g shoo ting to chan ge to P layba ck mo de.

37 Using the Camera Sorting by date In sorti ng by date mode, yo u can view all images take n on the same day. A Press n , o , p , or q to move th e cursor (color ed frame ) to the se lecting fr ame.
38 Erasing t he Images /Movie s Setting the camera to w Playback mode ( ➝ p.34) Use this mod e to era se unnecessa ry images or movies to have amp le free space o n the Mem ory Car d or int ernal memory . Your camera c alls i mages “frames”. Using the erase b utton ( / n ) Pressing ( n ) erases i mages e asily.
39 Using the Camera MEMO To erase another frame (file), repeat above steps. When erasing frames (files) is completed, press DISP/ BACK. CAU TION Pressing MENU/OK repeatedly erases consecutive frames (files). Take care not to erase a frame (file) by mistake.
40 Erasi ng the Ima ges/Mo vies MEMO MEMO • W hen using a Memory Card, the image s in the Memory Card are erased. When not using a Memory Card, the images in the internal memory are erased. • S electing BACK returns to single-frame playback without erasing any frames (files).

Note that the availability of a shooting mode and its setting method m ay vary d ependi ng on the mode you wish to use. ( ➝ p.43, 44) This is th e easie st mode for provi ding cri sp an d clear shots.
47 Advanced Features — Photography Use this mod e for photogra phy to get beautif ul skin to nes and soft over all tone. Use this mod e for s hooting scenery in daylight and provides crisp, clear shots of scenery suc h as buildi ngs and moun tains. CHECK Flash cannot be used in the Landscape mode.
48 Shooting Mode This m ode produ ces beautif ul image s that reta in the n atura l ambi ence when shots are taken in low-light conditions. This mode is also ide al for shoo ting ind oor o r si tuat ions wher e the f las h cann ot be used. Camera sets th e high-sensitivity settin g when selecting the Nat ural li ght mode.
49 Advanced Features — Photography Use this mod e to shoot sunset, ma king the colo rs more v ivid. Use this mode f or shoo ting with a wa terpro of case. It is effective for tak ing more vi vid shots of ocea n blue. Use this mode to take clear close-u p shots when zoom ing up a flo wer.
50 Shooting Mode Use this mod e for taking pic tures in pl aces s uch as museum w here th e use o f flash and m aking a n operati on sound and a shutter so und ar e restric ted. Flash mode is forcibly set to Suppress ed flash and operati on sound, shutte r sound and the s elf-ti mer lamp are off.

55 Advanced Features — Photography 2 Take pictures in selected time. Usin g the 2- second self- timer This is useful when you worry about camera shake even if attaching the camera on a tripod. MEMO • T o stop the self-timer, once it has started running, press DISP/BACK.

62 SHOOTING MENU Area shot an d quality sett ing Normal shooting provides an aspect ratio of 4:3 and % shooting provides an aspect ratio of 3:2 (same aspect ratio as 35 mm film and post card). MEMO • The bigger the number of recorded pixels, the better the image quality becomes.
63 Advanced Features — Photography Adjusting exposure com pensa tion ( EXP. COMPENSATION) Available Photography mode: s ( ➝ p.50) Use this m enu fo r shots to get the corre ct bright ness (exposure ), such as shot s with extr emely hig h contrast betwee n the subj ect and t he back ground .

When the data includes a frame (file) with DPOF settings that were specified on another camera, “ RESET DPOF OK?” appears. Pressing MENU/OK erases all of the DPOF settings already specified for each frame (file).

72 PLAYBACK M ENU MEMO To stop the pr ocedur e midwa y If the images are very large, protecting or unprotecting all the frames (files) may take some time. If you want to take a picture or record a movie during the procedure, press DISP/BACK. CAUTIO N The Format function erases all the frames (files), including protected frames (files) ( ➝ p.
73 Advanced Features — Playback MEMO To copy another frame (file), repeat steps C and D . When copying frames (files) is completed, press DISP/ BACK.

82 w Play ing Ba ck Mo vies MEMO If the subject of the shot is very bright, white vertical streaks or black horizontal streaks may appear in the image during playback. This is normal. CAUTIO N • You may not be able to record movie with sound when using FinePix A610.

87 Settings Use this f uncti on to shoo t enlarg ed ima ges than maximu m optica l zoo m scale. Z Zoom ba r displa y The abo ve descr iption is based on using t he Fine Pix A800. On the FineP ix A610, D igital zoom scale is appr oximate ly 6.2x. CAUTIO N Using the DIGITAL ZOOM allows you to enlarge your subject and shoot it.
88 SET-UP The LC D m onitor dark ens w hen camera is not used for 8 seconds. When this fun ction is activ e, you can save power and get the ma xim um pos sibl e runn ing t ime f rom yo ur bat teri es. MEMO Pressing any button wakes the camera up. CAUTIO N The LCD power save function is disabled during Playback mode and Movie mode.
