Documenting Process Calibrator Safety Information 11 To protect yourself, follow these safety guidelines: • Do not use the calibrator if it is damaged. Before you use the calibrator, inspect the insulating cover. Look for cracks or missing plastic. Pay particular attention to the insulation surr ounding the connectors.

701/702 Users M anual 20 Charging the Battery w Before you use the calibrator for the fir st time, charge its battery pack for 2 hours. Due to safety requirements, the battery must be charged outside the cal ibrator. Figure 8 shows how to remove the battery.

The default setting for Auto Battery S ave is Off . When Auto Battery Sa ve is On , the E symbol shows in the upper right corner of the display.

701/702 Users M anual 30 Testing Continuity In the continuity function, the beeper sounds and the word Short appears on the display when the resistance between the Ω MEAS jack and its common jack is less than 10 Ω . The word Open appears when the resistance is greater than 400 Ω .

701/702 Users M anual 36 Using Resi stance-Temperature D etectors (RTDs) The calibrator accepts RTD types shown in Table 6. RTDs are characterized by their r esistance at 0°C (32°F), which is called the “ice point” or R 0 . The most common R 0 is 100 Ω .

Documenting Process Calibrator Using Source Mode 45 Providing Loop Power The calibrator provides loop power at 28V or 24V dc. The 28V setting provides enough current for two or three 4-20 mA devices on the loop in addition to the two-wire transmitter but uses mor e battery power.

Use this function to calibrate instruments that require a pressur e source or differential pr essure measurement.
