Using the Automati c Document Feeder 7 Using the Automatic Document Feeder Y ou can place up to 30 sheets of letter- or A4-size paper or 10 sheets of legal-size paper at a time. Load only plain paper in the ADF . 1. Mo ve the edge guide outward. 2. F an the originals, then tap them on a flat surface to even the edges.

Printing From Yo ur Computer 9 Printing From Your Computer This section describes the basic steps for printing from a Windows ® or M ac computer . For detailed instructions on printing, see the online User’ s Guide . Printing in Windows 1. Select the print command in y our application.
10 Printing in Wi ndows 3. On the Main tab , select the basic print settings. Ma ke sure you choose the correct Paper Type setting for the paper you are using (see page 12 for details). Tip: For quic k access to the most common set t ings, select one of the Printing Presets on the lef t side of the screen .

Faxing a Document 17 Faxing a Document Y our product lets you send faxes by entering fax numbers or selecting entries fr om a speed dial or group dial list. If you use the A u to matic Document F eeder (ADF), you can fax up to 30 sheets of letter- or A4-siz e paper or 10 sheets of legal-size paper at a time.
18 Setting Up Fax Features 2. T o use a telephone or answering machine, you need a second phone cable. Connect one end of the cable to the telephone or answeri ng machine, and connect the other end to the EXT.

24 Cleaning th e Print Hea d Cleaning the Print Head If print quality has declined and the nozz le check pattern i ndicates clogged nozzles, you can clean th e print head.
Purchasing EPSO N Ink Cartridges 25 Y ou can c heck the ink le vels usin g the proc edure below . The ink levels displayed are approximate. T o check the ink lev els with your W indows or M ac OS X software, see the instructions in your online User’s Guide .
26 Replacing Ink Cartridges Replacing Ink Cartridges Make sure you have a ne w ink ca rtrid ge before you beg in. Caution: Do not open ink cartridge pac kages until you are ready to install the ink. Cartridges are vacuum pac ked to maintain reliabilit y .
Replacing Ink Cartridges 27 5. Before you open the new cartridge package, shake it gently four or fiv e times. Then remov e it from the package. Caution: Do not touch the green chip or the small window on the ink cartridge. This can damage the cartridge.

Network Problems 29 Connect the Printer to Your Wireless Network If you are unable to connect to your wir e less network using the product CD and the Start Here sheet, you can use the control panel on your product. Before you start, make sure you kno w your network name (SSID) and passwor d.
30 Printing and Co pying Problems Cannot Scan Over the Network ■ Make sure your computer is connected to the same network as your printer . ■ If you cannot scan from the product ’ s cont rol panel, make sur e you re started your computer after installing the product soft ware .
Printing a nd Copying Problems 31 Paper Feeding Problems ■ If paper doesn ’ t feed, remo ve it from the sheet feeder . Flip thr ough the stack to separate the sheets a little. Then reload th e paper against the right side, and slide the left edge guide against the paper (but not too ti ghtly).
32 Printing and Co pying Problems 2. Lift the paper feeder and remove all of the paper inside, including any torn pieces. Then lower the paper feeder (but don ’ t close the ADF cover). 3. Raise the ADF input tray and carefully remo ve the jammed paper .
