On the proje ctor’s c ontrol pa nel, pr ess the Source button to display the current ly selecte d source.
12 Using the P rojector Adjusting the Image Once you see your image, you ’ll need to make certain adjustments: ■ If the i mage is too high or too low, yo u can re posit ion it as desc ribed b elow . ■ To focus o r zoom your i mage, see page 13. ■ If the image isn’t sq uare, see page 14.

14 Using the P rojector Adjusting the Image Sha pe If the projector i s raised in the fron t or the back, like this: your projected i mage may not be square or rec tangular; it may have a “keystone” shap e like one of the examples shown be low.
Using the Projector 15 Displaying a Test Patte rn You can display a test pattern before or during proj ection to adjust the focu s, correc t key ston e distor tion , and select the best ligh t and d ark shades. Foll ow these ste ps: 1. Press the Pa ttern button on the remot e contro l or the pr ojector’ s control panel.

Using the Projector 17 Selecting the Aspect Ra tio The aspect ratio is the ratio betwee n an image’s length and its height. Standard images have an aspect ra tio of 4:3 and HD TV images hav e an aspect ratio of 16:9. If your video so urce is 16:9, the projector displa ys it in its nativ e ratio.

Using the Projector 19 Adjusting the Tracking a nd Synchronizatio n If you’re projecting from a computer and displaying an image that contains a lot of detail (such as the text of a letter), you may notice one or more ve rtical stri pes or bands, or some of the characters may look heavy or blurred.
20 Using the P rojector Freez ing the Action If you want to temporar ily freez e the action on the screen, pr ess the Still button on the r emote contr ol.

2 Fine-tuning the Projec tor 23 2 Fine-tuning the Projector Y ou can use the pr ojector’ s on-screen menus to adjust the image quality, co lor, and other features. Yo u can display the full menus on the screen to select your se ttings or display a line menu to change the Video sett ings for the imag e being pr oject ed.

Fine-tuning the Projec tor 25 Changing Settings Throu gh the Full Menus 1. Press the Me nu button on the contro l panel or the remote contro l. You see the main menu scree n: The five menus are listed on the left, and the options available for the highlighted menu are shown on the right.
26 Fine-tuning the Projector 5. Use the or button (control pa nel) or p ress right or left on the Select button (remote contro l) to change the setting fo r the sele cted opti on. Enabled settings are indicated by a green light, while dis abled on es ar e g ray.

Fine-tuning the Projec tor 31 ■ Noise Re duction (available for 480 i and 575i imag e sign als o nly ) Turn this feat ure on (se lect NR1 or NR2 ) to reduce v isual “noise” to make th e image softer . This is espe cially use ful when text and video images are combined, as i n movies with subtitles.
32 Fine-tuning the Projector Repositioning the Image Follow these steps to move the image to a differ ent positi on on the screen: 1. Press the Me nu button to display the menu screen. 2. Select the Adva nced menu. 3. Select the Position opti on. You s ee a po sition ing sc reen.

Fine-tuning the Projec tor 35 Recalling a Memory Se tting When you want to use a saved memo ry setting, press o ne of the memory buttons on the remo te control. T his applie s the s aved settings to the image curr ently being pr ojected on the s creen.
36 Fine-tuning the Projector If the projector is connected to a computer, you see thes e settings: The life s pan of the lamp is about 3000 hours. If the number shown is close to 3000, make su re you have a sp are lamp handy. After you change the lamp, you need to reset the lamp timer.
3 Maintaining the Projector 37 3 Maintaining the Projector Y our projector needs little maintenance . All you need to do on a regular basis is keep the lens clean. Any dirt or smears on the lens may show up on your projected image . You also need to p eriod ically clean the air filte r to prevent overhea ting.
38 Maintaining the Projector Cleani ng the Lens Clean the lense s whenever yo u notice di rt or dust on th e surface. ■ Use a canist er of comp ressed air to remove dust. ■ To rem ove dir t or smear s on th e lenses, use lens -cle aning pap er. If necessary, moisten a soft cloth with le ns cleaner and gently wipe the lens surfac e.
Maintaining the Projector 39 5. To clea n the fi lter, EPS ON recomme nds usi ng a sma ll vacu um cleaner d esigned fo r computer s and other office equipme nt. If you don’t ha ve one, gently clean th e filt er using a very s oft brush (suc h as an artist’s camel-hair brush).
40 Maintaining the Projector 7. To install a new filter, first insert the tabs, then press down until it click s in pl ace. Replacing the Lamp The projectio n lamp typical ly lasts for abo ut 3000 hours o f use. It is time to repl ace the lamp when: ■ The projection i mage gets darker or starts to deteri orate.
Maintaining the Projector 41 4. Use a screwdriv er to slide the l atch and pop op en the lamp cover. Then lift up and remove it. 5. Use the screwdri ver to lo osen the two s ilver scr ews holding the lamp in pl ace. (You can’t remove these scr ews.) 6.
42 Maintaining the Projector 7. Gently i nsert the ne w lamp and tighte n its sc rews . 8. To replace the l amp cover, inse rt the tabs and then snap the cover into plac e. (The pro jector wo n’t work if the lamp c over is loo se.) After replac ing the lamp, you need to reset the lamp timer as descri bed in the next sec tion.

46 Solvin g Problems Using On-Screen Help Follow these steps to acce ss the proj ector’ s on-scr een help : 1. Press the ? Help button on the projector or the remote control. You see the Help men u: 2. Choose the option y ou want and press the Select button.

48 Solvin g Problems The power light does not come on. Make sure the power cord is connected securel y both at the power outlet and the projector. If you have jus t replaced the la mp, make su re the cover is s ecurely fasten ed. The lamp warning light is red or flashing red.

Solving Problems 53 The image is upside-do wn or reversed. Change the setting for the Proj ection option in the Set ting menu. (See page 33.) The message Not Suppor ted is displayed . ■ Make sure your comp uter’s resol ution does n’t exceed SXGA (1280 × 720).
54 Solvin g Problems The image isn’t square, bu t trapezoi d-shaped. If you’ve ti lted the projector upwa rd by ex tending the foot, t he image will be broader at the top .
Solving Problems 55 ■ Adjust the Sharpnes s setting on the Video menu (see page 28). When you change video s ettings, you s hould be able to s ee the effect on the screen im mediately. If yo u’re projecti ng from a computer, you may also need to ad just the tracking and sync as described in the nex t section.
