Setting Up the TV 7 Setting Up the TV F ollow the steps in these sections to prepare a spot for your TV , set it up, connect it, turn it on, and prepar e it for viewing: • “Selecting a Location .

10 Setting Up the TV Outdoor Antenna Installation and Grounding • I t is best to have a professional technician install an antenna on the roof of a structure.
Setting Up the TV 11 Suggested Supports or Stands Y ou can use an optional Epson TV stand to support your TV . Order part number V12H003R03 (for the LS47P2) or V12H003 R02 (for the LS57P2) fr om your deale r .
12 Setting Up the TV Installing the Set-T op Shelf The set-top shelf pro vides a convenient support for a center surround sound speaker or other component on top of the TV . The shelf can hold up to 11 lb (5 kg). 1 F old the shelf into an upside-down L-shape with the shorter end on top.
Setting Up the TV 13 Securing the TV Y ou may want to secure the TV to a wall or ot her support so it stays upright on its stand during an earthquake or other situation. U se wi r es and screws connected to the outer pair of holes on the top of the TV to secure the TV to the wall or other support.
14 Setting Up the TV Connecting the HDTV T uner If your TV included an HDTV tuner , fo llow these instruct ions to connect it. 1 T urn off and unplug your TV and tuner . 2 Slide the OUTPUT SWITCH on the back of the tuner to YP bP r . 3 Connect your antenna ’ s wall jack to the RF IN jack on the tuner using a standard coaxial antenna cable.
Setting Up the TV 15 7 Connect the other end of the cab le to the L–Audio–R connectors on the tuner . 8 Plug the TV and tuner into an electrical outlet. 9 See th e Us e r ’s G u i d e included with the tuner for instr uctions on setting up channels, entering the date and time, and making other basic settings.
16 Setting Up the TV Connecting Other Equipment Y ou can con nect the TV to a variety of equipment. Follo w the steps in the applicable sect ions below , depending on the equipment you ’ re conne cting and the type of connector or service you ’ re us ing.
Setting Up the TV 17 Antenna or Direct Cable TV Connection Connect the TV to an outside antenna or to your cable system using a 75-oh m coaxial cable. Connect the cable coming into the house to the ANT 1 connector on the back of the TV . If your coaxial cable has a scr ew-type connector on the end, secu re it by turning the end clockwise.
18 Setting Up the TV Cable Box Connections The connection method differs, depending on the type of cable box you have. Y our cable box may unscramble signals for all of your channels or it may unscramble only some of them. If you ’ll also be attaching a V CR to the TV , you need to use a different connection method so you can record TV programs.
Setting Up the TV 19 Cable Box Unscrambles Only Some of Y our Channe ls If your cable box unscrambles signals for only some of your channels, connect it as follows: 1 Connect the cable comi ng into the house to the ANT 1 connector on the back of the TV .
20 Setting Up the TV Satellite Receiver Connection If you ’ll also be attaching a V CR to the TV , you need to use a different connection method so you can re cord TV pro grams. See “VCR and S atellite Receiv er Connection ” on page 27. 1 T urn off and unplug you r TV and your satellite r eceiver .
Setting Up the TV 21 DVD Player With a DVI Connection 1 T urn off and unplug your TV and your DVD player . 2 Connect one end of a D VI-HDTV cable to the DVI-HDTV Input connector on the back of the TV . 3 Connect the other end of the DVI-HDTV cable to the DVI- HDTV OUT connector on your D VD player .
22 Setting Up the TV DVD Player With Component Video Connection 1 Connect one end of the component video cable to any available set of Y (green), PB (blue), and PR (red) connectors on the back of the TV . 2 Connect the other end of the component vide o cable to the corresponding color Component Video Out connectors on your DVD play er .
Setting Up the TV 23 DVD Player With an S-Video Connection 1 Connect one end of an S-video cable to one of the S-Video connectors on the back of the TV or to the one on the front of the TV beneat h the connector cov er . 2 Connect the other end of the S -video cable to the S-Video connector on your D VD player .
24 Setting Up the TV VCR Connection F ollow these steps to connect a V C R by itself . If you ’ re connecting a cable, cable box, or satellite receiver along with the V CR, see the instructions in the sections following this one instead.
Setting Up the TV 25 VCR and Cable Service (Without Cable Box) Connection 1 Connect the VCR as described in “VCR Connection ” on page 24. 2 Connect the cable coming into the house to the IN connector on the VCR. 3 Connect one end of a coaxial cable to the OUT connector on the V CR.
26 Setting Up the TV VCR and Cable Box Connection 1 T urn off and unplug your TV , VCR, and cable box. 2 Connect the VC R as described in “VCR Connection ” on page 24. 3 Connect the cable line coming into the house to the ANT 1 connector on the back of the TV .
Setting Up the TV 27 VCR and Satellite Receiver Connection 1 T urn off and unplug your TV , VCR, and satellite receiver . 2 Connect the VCR as described in “VCR Connection ” on page 24. 3 Connect the satellite antenna cable to the Satellite In connector on your satellite rece ive r .
28 Setting Up the TV 8 If your satellite service does not include local channels, you can also connect an outside antenna or cable service line to the VHF/UHF IN connect or on the VCR. Then connect a coaxial cable to the VHF/UHF OUT connec tor and to the ANT 1 connector on the back of your TV .
Setting Up the TV 29 Stereo Amplifier Connection 1 Connect one end of a standard, red/white audio cable to the R and L Audio Output Va r i a b l e connectors on the back of your TV . 2 Connect the other end of the audio cable to the R and L Audio Line Input conn ectors on your stereo amplifier .
30 Setting Up the TV PC or Game Console Connection 1 F or a PC, connect one end of a D sub15 R GB fo r PC cable to th e monitor or PC output connector on the back of your PC. F or a game console, just use the cable that came with the console. 2 Connect the other end of the cab le to the PC connector on the front of the TV .
Setting Up the TV 31 Camcorder, Digital Camera, or Other Portable Video Connection I t’ s best to connect a por table video device to the S-Video or Video connector on the front of the TV ; ho wever , you can use the connect ors on the back. These instructions use a camcorder as an example.
32 Setting Up the TV Other Optional Device Connections Headphones Connect headphones to the Headphone connector on the front of the TV . Remote IR Repeater Connecting a remote IR r epeater lets you control other equipment (such as a V CR or DVD player) by using its r emote control pointed at the TV’ s remote control receiver on its front panel.
Setting Up the TV 33 Preparing the Remote Contr ol Before you can use the r emote control, you need to insert the batteri es and make sure you aim it correctly . F or a description of its functions when using it to operate the TV , see the inside front cover of this book; for instructions on using it with the HDTV tuner , see page 35.
34 Setting Up the TV Operating the Remote Control Aim the remote control at the front of the TV , within about a 25° horizontal angle to the left or right and a 15° vertical angle up or do wn from the remote r eceiver . Make sure the room lighting is not too bright and not shining directly on the remote control or the TV receiver windo w .
Setting Up the TV 35 Contr olling the HDTV T uner With the Remote Control Y ou can use the TV ’ s remote control to operate the HDTV tuner that came with your TV (tuner not included in all areas). That way , you only need to keep one remote control at hand.
36 Setting Up the TV Contr olling Other Equipment With the Remote Control Y ou can program the remote control to operate oth er home theater equipment, such as a DVD player , VCR, or satellite receiver . That way , you can use just one remote contr ol when watching movies or TV pr ograms.

Setting Up the TV 41 Plugging In and T urning On the TV After your video and audio equipment are connec ted and the remote cont rol is ready , you can pl u g i n a n d t ur n on t h e T V .

44 Setting Up the TV Labelling Input Sour ces I t’ s helpful to label your input sources if you ’ re using more than one device with your TV , such as a DV D player , V CR, etc. Then you can easily r ecognize the devices as you switch betwee n them.

46 Setting Up the TV T urning Of f the TV 1 P ress the Power button on the TV panel or the remote control. 2 The Power light flashes orange as the TV cools down. When it ’ s cool, the Power light stops flashing and shines orange. Leave the TV like this or unplug it.
Setting Up and Co ntrolling Channels 47 Setting Up and Controlling Channels If you plan to use your TV ’ s built-in tuner to view television programs, you ’ll need to set up your available channels.
48 Setting Up and Controlling Channels 4 F irst make sure the corr ect television source type is selected for Antenna 1 and/or Antenna 2. Select TV for broadcast television via an an tenna outside y our house. Select CA TV for cable television via a cable servic e line brought into your house.
Setting Up and Co ntrolling Channels 49 Manually Adding or Skipping Channels F or channels that are not automatically detected when you use A uto P rogram, y ou can use Manual P rogram to add them. Y ou can also choos e to have the TV skip certain channels so you don ’ t have to cycle through them when you change channels.
50 Setting Up and Controlling Channels Selecting Channels T o select th e channel you want to watch, do one of the following: • Enter the channel number using the number keys and press Ch Enter . •P r e s s t h e Ch + or – button to go up or down one channel at a time.
Setting Up and Co ntrolling Channels 51 Labelling TV Channels Y ou may want to label your channels so you can easily identify them by name instead of just by number . The channel label appears with the number in the upper right corner of the screen when you display or switch channels.
52 Setting Up and Controlling Channels Selecting a Predefined Label 1 Pre s s Select d or Select u to h ighlight the label ( such as CBS ) in the E dit column. If you don ’ t see a par ticular label, press Pr ev < or Next > to display the next screen.
Setting Up and Co ntrolling Channels 53 Setting Up Parental Contr ols Y ou can control access to rated television prog rams and block access to certain channels and input sources to prevent viewing of unsuitable ma t erials. The person controlling acces s creates a password that allo ws him or her to set up, lock, and unlock the par ental controls.
54 Setting Up and Controlling Channels Then you see the Lock menu. 5 Pre s s Select d to highlight Password Change , then press Enter . Y ou see this screen: 6 U se the number buttons on the remote control to enter a four-digit passwor d. 7 Enter the same password again to conf irm it.
Setting Up and Co ntrolling Channels 55 Blocking Programs Using V -Chip Y our TV is equipped with V -Chip technology that allows y ou to bloc k the disp lay of TV programs or mo vies based upon their content rating. Y ou can also block display of programs or movies that don ’ t carr y V -Chip ratings (unrated programs).

Setting Up and Co ntrolling Channels 59 Blocking Channels and Input Sour ces In addition to blocking rated TV programs and movies, you can block access to particular TV channels or input sources, such as those used for game consoles. 1 P ress the Menu button on the TV panel or the remote control.
60 Setting Up and Controlling Channels The highlight moves to the first character in the passwor d field: 4 U sing the number buttons on the r emote control, enter your passwor d. Y ou see the Lock menu: 5 Channel & Game Lo ck is highlighted. P ress Prev < or Next > to select ON .

62 Setting Up and Controlling Channels If you see one of these screens and you want to access th e program, mo vie, channel, or input source, follow these steps: 1 Pre s s Enter . Y ou see a screen asking y ou to enter your p assword. 2 Enter your 4-digit password using the remote control number buttons.

66 Adjusting the Picture and Sound 4 Pre s s Select d to highlig ht the 480p Color Matrix setting. 5 Pre s s Prev < or Next > to select DVD (to optimize the quality of D VD images) or HDTV (to optimize the quality of EDTV images). 6 Pre s s Exit to select another menu or press Menu to exit the menu system.
Adjusting the Picture and Sound 67 Wide str etches a standar d 4:3 ratio image to fit into your 16:9 ratio screen, but the image size stretches increasingly mor e from the center to the sides. Zoom enlarges the entir e screen and cuts off some of the top and bottom for a closer view .
68 Adjusting the Picture and Sound Adjusting the Sound T o turn the TV speaker volume up or do wn, use the Vo l . up and down buttons on the TV panel or remote control.
Using TV Features 69 Using TV Features Y our TV provides various features to enhance your viewing experience , as described in these sections: • “P rinting What Y ou See on the Scr een ” on page.
70 Using TV Features (T o freeze additional images, press the Freeze button again. The previously frozen images are erased.) 3 T o enlarge th e selected image, press Enter . Using TV Features 71 Changing the Capture Settings If you ’ re freezing images containing text or images from a D V D player that uses progr essive output, you may get better results by changi ng the capture method, as described belo w . 1 P ress the Freeze button.

Using TV Features 73 Using Channel Zapping Channel zapping lets you get a quick look at pr ograms broadcast on up to seven additional channels while you ’ re watching a TV program on an eighth channel. If y ou see a diffe rent channel that you want to watch, you can make it your main program.
74 Using TV Features Zapping Channels The first channel you select in channel zapping is the main channel. Y ou ’ll be able to hear the audio only from this channel, so select the channel you ’ d like to listen to first. 1 Pre s s t h e POP butto n o n th e rem ot e co ntr ol.
Using TV Features 75 T urning On Closed Caption Display Y ou can turn on closed caption display so you can read dialogue or station information transmitted along with certain programs. Y ou can al so turn on an option that displays closed captions whenever you pr ess the Mute button on the r emote control.
76 Using TV Features Automatically Shutting Of f the TV Y ou can set up the TV to shut off automatically in case you fall asleep or want to control how long it stays on. Y ou can set the TV to go into “ sleep ” mode after 30, 60, or 90 minutes or y ou can set it to turn off automatically after 30 minutes if it receives no signal input.
Viewing, Printing, and Saving Photos 77 Viewing, Printing, and Saving Photos Y ou can use the digital photo card slots and printer built into your TV , and the external CD-R/R W drive, to view , print.
78 Viewing, Printing, and Saving Photos • The photo files must contain a time stam p, so the slide show can display the files in time stamp order . • The photo files should contain thumbnail data , such as that included in Exif format JPEG files, to speed up display of the files in the p hoto viewer .
Viewing, Printing, and Saving Photos 79 3 After a few seconds, the Photo screen appears. It displays the photos on your card and outlines the first one in gold: 4 If you inserted more than one photo car d, the photos on the card you inserted first appear on the screen.
80 Viewing, Printing, and Saving Photos Compatible Photos and File Structure (CD) If you cr eate a CD-R/R W of your photos using a computer , make sure that you u se the file structure and naming conventions defined in the DCF standar d so the photo viewer c an display your photos.

84 Viewing, Printing, and Saving Photos Viewing a Slide Show Y ou can view your photos automatically , for a few seconds each, by running a slide show . Y ou can view all the photos or just selected ones. 1 P ress the 2 button. (Or press Menu , press Select d or Select u to highlight Slide Show , and press Enter .

96 Caring For the TV 2 U se a small, hand-held vacuum to remov e dust from both sides of the vent co ver . 3 T o replace the vent cover , insert the tabs on the back into the right side of the vent opening. Then pr ess in the left side of the vent cov er .
Caring For the TV 97 Replacing the TV Pr ojection Lamp The projection lamp in your TV is designed to last approximately 10,000 hours. Lamp life will vary depending on the mode selected, environmental conditions, and usage. When it is time to replace the lamp, the TV displays a message on the scr een.
98 Caring For the TV Lamp Replacement Precautions • N ever tou ch the projection lamp immediatel y after turning off the TV or you could be burned.W ait at least 30 minutes after turning off the TV to let the lamp cool do wn completely . • If the lamp has broken, handle the shar ds carefully to avoid injury .
Caring For the TV 99 4 On the front of the TV , pus h in the latch on the lamp cover , then pull off the cover and set it as ide. 5 U se the screwdriver that came with the replacement lamp to loosen the two screws in the corners of the lamp housing. (Y ou can ’ t remove the scr ews.
100 Caring For the TV 7 P osition the new lamp as shown below . Then slide it carefully into the lamp slot unt il it stops. 8 T ighten the screws in the corners of the lamp housing. 9 Insert the tabs on the lamp cover into the right side of the opening.
Caring For the TV 101 10 Align the speaker cover o ver the TV , making sure it f it s i n to t h e h o l es . Pus h i n o n a ll s i d es of the co ver . 11 Plug in the TV and pr ess the Power button to turn it on.
