13 Bef ore Using the Remote Contr ol Inser ting th e Batte ries The batteries are not a lready inserted i nto the remote cont rol at t he time th e projector is purchased. Y ou will need to insert the batteries that are provided with the projector before the remote control can be used.

16 Installation Settin g Up th e Pr ojector The projector supports the follo wing four different projection methods, allo wing you to choose the best method for displaying your images. * A special method of installation is required for suspending the projector from the ceiling.
17 Installation Screen Size and Pr ojec tion Di stance The distance from th e lens to the screen det ermines the actual i mage size. The recommended distance and projec tion distance v a lues gi v en belo w are for when the projector is fitted with a standard lens.
18 Connecting to a Computer Eligi ble Comput er s The projector cannot be connected to some types of computer , or projection of images may not be possible e ven if actual connection is possible. Make sure t hat the computer you intend to use satisfi es the conditions gi ven belo w .
19 Connecting to a Computer Pr oject i ng Images from the Computer The shape and speci fications of the comput er's monitor port will determine what type of cable should be used. Check the following to see which type of port your computer has. Use the accessory computer cable to make the connections.
20 Connecting to a Computer Some workstation -type computers have a 13w3 monitor port. In such cases, use a commercially-av ailable 13w3 ⇔ D-Sub 15-pin cable to make the connection.
21 Connecting to a Computer Either of the follo wing two connection methods can be used depending on the connection ports or the type of cable being used. • Use the optional V GA-HD15/BNC PC cable to connect the monitor ports of the computer to the [Computer 1] port at the rear of the projector .

24 Connecting to a Computer Using the Remot e Cont r ol to Op erate t he Mous e P oint er (Wirel ess Mouse Fun ction) Y ou can use the remote control as a wireless mouse to control the mouse pointer on the screen by using the accessor y USB cable to connect the USB port of the computer to the [USB] port at the rear of the projector .

33 Connecting to an External Monitor If an external monitor is connected to the projector , you can operate the connected video equipment while view ing the images on the external monitor at the same time that they are being proje cted. This is useful when gi ving presentations.

35 Installing the Cab le Co ver If the projector has been installed on a ceiling and then connected to a computer or other video source, you can then install the accessory cable cov er . I t co vers the input and output ports and the cable connectors at the rear of the projector to provide greater pr otection.
36 Pre venting theft (P ass w or d Pr otect)(EMP-9300 onl y) The Passw ord Protect function is only a vailable with the EMP-9300. When the P assword Protect function is acti v ated, people who do not kno w the password cannot use the projector to pr oject images when the po wer is turned on.
37 Preven ting theft (Password P rotect)(EMP -9300 only) If an attempt is made to carry out any of the follo wing user logo operations, a message is displayed and the setting can not be changed. T o change the setting, set "User’ s Logo Protect" to "OFF" first.

41 T urning the Pr ojector On T urn the power on to start projecting images. Connec ting the P ower Cable PROCEDURE Chec k that the power is turned off f or the projector and all components connected to the projector . Connect the computer or other video source to the projector .

47 Turning the Projector Off If not using the projector f or a long p eriod, unplug the power cable fr om the electrical outl et. Set the [R/C] switch on the remote control to "OFF". Attach the lens cover . Attach the lens cover to the lens when not using the projector , in order to stop the lens from getting dusty or dirty .
48 Adjusting the Screen Image Y ou can correct a nd adjust the screen images in order to obtain the best possible pictures. Adjusting the Image Siz e (Zoom Funct ion) The size of the projected images is basically determined by the distance from the projector to the screen.
49 Adjusting the S creen Image Focusing the Scre en Images (Foc us Adjustment ) PROCEDURE Press the [Focus] buttons on either the remote control or the projector's contr ol panel. Adjust ing th e Ima ge Angle If the projector is set up so that it is at a horizontal or vertical angle to the screen, adjust as follo ws.
50 Adjusting the S creen Image If the projector cannot be se t up directly in front of the screen, you can project images at a horizontal angle to the scre en. If ke ystone distortion appears in the images, you can use the projector's Quick Cor ner function to correct this ke ystone distortion.
51 Adjusting the S creen Image Y ou can e xtend or retract the front adj ustable fee t to tilt the projector to adjust the upward projection angle within a maximum range of 9 º . PROCEDURE While pulling the two f oot adjust levers at either side, li ft up the front of the pr ojector so that the front adjustable feet can extend.
52 Adjusting the S creen Image Corre cting Distor tio n in the Projection Area (K e ystone Corre ction) The projector is equipped with the follo wing two functions for correcting ke ystone distortion. Use whiche ver function is ef fecti ve for correcting the distortion.
53 Adjusting the S creen Image PROCEDURE Press the [Menu] button on either the remote co ntr ol or the projector's contr ol panel, a nd then select "Quick Corner" fr om the "K e ystone" sub-menu of the "Setting" menu.
54 Adjusting the S creen Image When the correct is complete, pres s the [Menu] button on either the remote control or the pr ojector's cont r ol pane l. V ertical ke ystone correction c an be carried out using either the projector's control panel or the configuration menus.
55 Adjusting the S creen Image When vertical ke ystone c orrection is carried out, the height of the projected images will become shorter . Use the height correc tion function to adjust the height of the projection area. Adjustments using the height correction function are carried out using the conf iguration menus.
56 Adjusting the S creen Image Tilt the [ ] button on the remo te contr ol to the left or right, or press the [T racking +] or [T racking -] b uttons on the projector's contr ol panel to correct the height while viewing the projected images.
57 Adjusting the Ima g e Quality The quality of the projected images can be adjusted as follo ws. Adjusting Computer Ima ges Automatic setup detects analogue RGB signals coming from a connected computer , and a utomatically adjusts these signals so that the opti mum images can be obtained.
58 Adjusting the I mage Quality If vertical stripes appear in the projected images, and this cannot be fix ed using automatic setup, you will need to adjust the tracking manually using the follo wing procedure. PROCEDURE T racking adjustment can be carried ou t using either the projector's control panel or the configuration menus.
59 Adjusting the I mage Quality If flickering, fuzziness or interference a ppear in images that a re input from the com puter , and this cannot be fix ed using automatic setup, you will need to adjust the sync manually using the follo wing procedure.

63 Functions f or Enhancing Pr ojection This section describes the v arious useful functions that can be used to enhance presentations. A/V Mute Function This function momentarily pauses the images and sound.
64 Functions for Enhancing Projection Functions for Enhancing Projection Free ze Func ti on This function pauses only the projected images. The sound keeps playing without pausing.
65 Functions for Enhancing Projection Functions for Enhancing Projection When the [ ] button is pressed, th e image is en lar ge d with the cross at its centre . When the [ ] button is pressed, the enlarged im a ge is then reduced. The enlargement ratio will appear at the bottom-right of t he screen.

130 Maintenance This section describes maintenance tasks such as cleaning the proje ctor and replacing consumable parts. Clea ning Y ou should clean the projector if it becomes dirty or if the quality of projected images starts to deteriorate. Clean the projector case by wiping it gently with a soft cloth.
