11 Bef o re Using the Remote Contr ol Using the Remote Control and Remote Operatin g Rang e When using the remote control for t he first time, pull out the insulating tape that is protruding from the battery holder . When the insulating tape is pulled out, the remote control can then be used.

13 Installation Settin g Up the Pr ojector The projector supports the follo wing four different projection methods, allo wing you to choose the be st method for displaying your images. * A special method of installation is required in order to suspend the projector from the ceiling.
14 Installation Screen Size and Pr ojec tion Dist ance The distance between the projector and the sc reen determines the actual image size. While referring to the table belo w , position the projector so that the images are projected onto the sc reen at the optimum size.
15 Connecting to a Computer Eligib le Computer s The projector cannot be connected to some types of computer , or projection of images may not be possible e ven if actual connection is possible. Make sure t hat the computer you intend to use satisf ies the conditions gi ven belo w .
16 Connecting to a Computer Pr ojecti ng Images from the Computer The shape and speci fi cations of the c omputer's monitor port will determine what type of cable should be used.
17 Connecting to a Computer Some workstation -type computers hav e a 13w 3 monitor port. Use a commercially-av ailable 13w3 ⇔ D-Sub 15-pin cable to c onnect the Computer/Component V ideo port at the rear of the projector to the monitor port of the computer .

30 Turning Off the Projector Unplug the power cable fr om the electrical ou tlet. Attach the lens cover . Attach the lens cov e r to the lens when n ot using th e projector , in order to stop the lens from getting dusty or dirty .
31 Adjusting the Screen Image Y ou can correct and adjust th e screen image in order to obtain the best possible picture. Adjusting the I mage Siz e The size of the projected image is basically determined by the distance from the projector to the screen.
32 Adjusting the S c reen Image Adjus ting th e Image Angl e and A utomatic K eys tone Corre ction Fu nction The projector should be set up so that it is as perpendicular to the screen as possible. If it is not possible to set up the projector so that it is perpendicular to the screen, it can be set up at a slight vertical angle instead.
33 Adjusting the S c reen Image PROCEDURE While pressing the two f o ot adjust buttons at either side , lift up the front of the pr ojector so that the front adjustable feet can extend. Extend the front adjustable feet u ntil the desired angle is obtained, and then release the foot adjust buttons.
34 Adjusting the S c reen Image Manually Correcting Ke y stone Distor tion The projector is provided with an automati c ke ystone correction function which detects the vertical angle of the projector and carries out keystone correction automatically .
35 Adjusting the Ima g e Quality The quality of the screen images can be adjusted a s follo ws. Adjusting Computer Ima g es Automatic setup detects the status of the signals coming from the connected computer , and automatically adjusts these signals so that the optimum images can be obtained.
36 Adjusting the I mage Quality If vertical stripes appear in the projected images, and this cannot be fix ed using automatic setup, you will need to adjust the tracking manually using the follo wing proce dure. PROCEDURE Press the [Menu] b utton on the remote contr ol, and then select "T racking" fr om the "Video" menu.
37 Adjusting the I mage Quality If flickering, fuzziness or interference a ppear in images that are input from the computer , and this cannot be fix ed using automatic setup, you will need to adjust the sync manually using the follo wing proce dure. PROCEDURE Press the [Menu] button on the remote contr ol, and then select "Sync.

40 Functions f or Enhancing Pr ojection This section describes the v arious useful functions that can be used to enhance presentations. A/V Mute This function momentarily pauses the image and sound.
41 Functions for Enhancing Projection Functions for Enhancing Projection Free ze This function pauses only the projected images. The sound keeps playing without pausing. The image source will still be playing back the images e ven while projection is paused, and so i t will not be possible to resume projection from the point where it was paused.
42 Functions for Enhancing Projection Functions for Enhancing Projection Wide-scr een Projection of Images fr om Video Equipm ent (Cha nging th e Aspec t Ratio ) This function changes the aspect ratio of images from 4:3 to 16:9 when component video images (YCbCr and YPbPr) or video images (S-V ideo or composite video) are being projected.
43 Functions for Enhancing Projection Functions for Enhancing Projection E-Zo om This function lets you enlarge and reduce a part of projected images such as graphs and tables. PROCEDURE Press the [E-Zoom ] button on the remote control. A cursor (cross) indicating the centre point for the area to be enlarged will appear on the screen.
44 Using the Configuration Men u Functions The configuration menus can be used to carry out a v ariety of se ttings and adjustments. The menus hav e a hierarchical structure, with a main menu that is di vided into sub-menus, which are further di vided into other sub-menus.

60 Using the Help If a problem occurs with the projector , the H elp function uses on-screen displays to assist you in solving the problem. It uses a series of menus in a question and answer format. PROCEDURE Press the [Help] button on the projector's contr ol panel.

74 Maintenance This section describes maintenance tasks such as cleaning the proje ctor and replacing consumable parts. Clea ning Y ou should cl ean the projector if it becomes dirty or if the quality of projected images starts to deteriorate. Clean the projector case by wiping it gently with a soft cloth.

77 Maintenance Mainte nance PROCEDURE T urn off the projector power , wait for the cool-down period to end, and the n disconnect the power cable. The cool-down period lasts for about 20 seconds. W ait until the lamp has cooled down, and then remove the lamp co ver from the base of the pr ojector .
78 Maintenance Mainte nance T ake out the la mp. Hold the lamp as shown in the illustration belo w and lift it up and out of the projector . If the lamp is broken replace by a new lamp, or contact your local dealer for furth er advise. If rep lacing the lamp yourself, be careful to av oid pieces of bro ken glass.
79 Maintenance Mainte nance The projector has a built-in counter which ke eps track of the lamp operatin g time. When the c umulati ve operat ing time reac hes a certain point, it causes the replacement warning message to be displayed. Therefore, the counte r needs to be reset after the lamp has been re placed with a ne w one.

83 Saving a User's Logo Saving a User's Logo Select "Y es " at the confirma tion screen, and then press the [Enter] button. The image will then be saved. Once the image has been sav ed, the message "Completed." will be displayed.

86 Glossary Glossary Progressiv e scanning A method of image scanning whereby the image data from a single image is scanned seque ntially from top to bottom to create a sing le ima ge. Refresh rate The light-emitti ng element of a display mai ntains the same l uminosity and colour for an extreme ly short time.
87 Glossary Glossary XGA A type of video signal with a resolution of 1024 (horizontal) × 768 (vertical) dots which is used by IBM PC/A T -compatible comp uters. YCbCr The carrier signal which is contained in the colour bar signal used in modern TV transmissions.
88 List of ESC/VP21 Commands Command Lis t When a power ON command is sent to the projector , the power for the projector turns on. When the projector is in a command ready state, it returns the "3Ah" (:) code. Furthermore, when c ommand processing is complete, the projector al so returns a ":" code.
