10 Quic k Star t Pla ying D VDs Y ou can enj oy your D VDs on the big scr een by follo wing these four easy steps. P osition Mo vieMate in front of the screen or a bla nk w all. Connect the po wer cabl e and turn on the main po wer s witch. I n s e r t a DV D.
11 Quic k Star t 1 Place Movie Mate in a position to project the best siz e image onto the screen. The further you place MovieMate away from the screen, the larger the pr ojected image becomes. Y ou can project on a wall if you want an image larger than the size of the screen.
12 1 Press to open the disc tra y . A beep sounds and the power comes on. Y ou can also press on the remote control. 2 Place the disc in the disc tra y with the label fac in g u p. 3 Press to close the disc tra y . For all discs exc ept , the projectio n lamp comes on automati cally , and project ion begins.
13 Adjust the image and sound as follo ws: Adjusting the picture and sound Adjusting the size of the projected ima g e (Zoom ring) Setting the f ocus (Focus ring) Adjusting the image position (lens shift) Y ou can move the position of the pro- jected image up, down, left and right, using the lens shift.
14 Press . T o resume playback, press . 1 Remov e the disc from the disc tra y . 2 Press . If the lamp was on, the lamp turns of f and the Image Off light flashes orange (during cool- down). “Now Cooling” appears in the display windo w above the D VD tray .
15 Quic k Star t From here on, operations are explained pr i marily using the buttons on the remote control. If the same button is a vailable on the MovieMate control panel, you can also use it. Press during pla yback. • On the control panel, press .
16 Press dur ing pla yback. MovieMate replays the pre vious 10 seconds. Press or during playbac k. Press once to return to the start of the chapter or track being played. Afte r this, playback returns to the start of the pre vio us chapter/track each time you press (Except for ).
17 Quic k Star t 1 Press at the point where y ou want to begin slow motion p la yback. T he image pauses. 2 Press . • There are 5 lev els of playback speed that change each time you press . • For slo w m otion revie w , press . 18 Ad v anced Operations Press . When you press the brightness of the display window and the indi- cators on the main unit change as sho wn below . DIMMER A UTO is the default setting. Contr olling Pla ybac k • When an is insert ed, this func tion is not av ailable, even when “DIMMER A UTO” is set.
19 Adv anced O perations Some hav e one or both of the following types of menus. T op menu : When multiple titles (video and audio) hav e been recorded , the top menu lets you select them. Menu : Y ou can use menus to select chapte rs and playback se ttings such as angle, audio, and subtitles.
20 When you insert a V ideo CD with PBC (playback control) enabled, a menu screen is displayed. Y ou can select the scene or information you wi sh to see from this menu. 1 Inser t a Video CD that includes PBC. The follo wing type of me nu is displa yed.
21 Adv anced O perations 1 When pla ying a disc that contains both MP3 /WMA files and JPEG files, y ou see the follo wing kind of grou p/trac k (file) name list. 2 Press to select the grou p . 3 Press to mov e the pointer to the track (file) name list.
22 T o repeat pla ybac k 1 Press dur ing pla yback or when stopped . Each time you press , the repeat m ode changes as sho wn in the fol- lowing table. 2 Press . T o pla y MP3/WMA audio (Ima ge Off) Once menu selection is complete and the audio be gins, press .
23 Adv anced O perations Specifications of file s that can be pla yed T o play a CD-R or CD-R W containing MP3 /WMA or JPEG files with this unit, the contents of the disc must conform to the following standards. MP3/WMA File system: ISO9660 le vel 1 or le vel 2 Discs that hav e been recorded in th e pack et write (UDF ) format cannot be read.
24 During pla yback, sele ct the chapter or trac k number y ou wish to pla y by pressing the numeric b uttons. For details on using the numeric buttons, see page 19. Y ou can play a disc from a sp ecified time position. Depending on the disc, the start point positio n varies as follows.
25 Adv anced O perations 5 Press . 6 Press once to cancel the menu bar . Enterin g th e tim e T o play a disc from 0 hours, 23 minutes, and 45 seconds, for example, Set the Function/Numerics toggle switch to the [123] position. Press the numeric b uttons in the order of → → → → .
26 Y ou can set the playback range (start po int to end point) from the menu bar dur- ing playback. 1 Press twice du ri ng playbac k. The following menu bar is projected. • Where possible, this function can be used during playback. • Cannot be used wh en playing back usi ng the PBC function.
27 Adva nced Operations Depending on the type of disc, you can lo op playback within a range of titles, chapters, or tracks, as in the follo wing table. Press during pla ybac k. The repeat mode changes whe nev er y ou press . The repea t mode name and icon are displaye d on the projected screen and in the display window .
28 Repeat modes a v ailable during pr ogram play and random pla y Canceling repeat play • Press repeatedly until “ ” is displayed on the screen. • T urn off the po wer switch on the main unit. • Y ou cannot use the “T itle re peat” function with some DVDs.
29 Adv anced O perations Y ou can set titles, chapters, and tracks to play in the order of your preference. 1 Press when stopped. Each time you press , the display window on the main unit changes as follows. Press repeatedly until “PRGM” is displayed.
30 Y ou can choose to play titles or chapters/tracks at random. The playback order always changes when usin g random play . 1 Press when stopped. Whene ver you press the display window changes in the following way . Keep pressing until “RANDOM” is displayed.
31 Adv anced O perations When a disc has been recorded with mu lt iple audio signals or languages, you can switch to the audio signal or language of your preference. 1 Press duri ng playback. The current audio set tings are displayed. 2 While the audio settings are displa yed, press repeat- edly and select the desired setting.
32 Y ou can choose whether or not to di splay subtitles for discs that have been recorded with subtitles. Wh en a disc has b een recorded with multiple l anguage subtitles, you can switch to the av ailable language of your preference. 1 Press during pla yback.
33 Adv anced O perations 1 Press twice dur ing pla ybac k. The follo wing status bar and menu bar are projected. 2 Press until the pointer reaches the item you wish to use. 3 Press . • Press once to cancel the menu bar . • When playback is stopped, som e functions may not work.
34 Auto standby: When playback has f inish ed or has been stopped, or an opera- tion has not been performed for about 3 mi nutes, the power switches of f auto- matically . Sleep timer: Once the set time has elap sed, the po wer switches off automati- cally .
35 Adv anced O perations For the best image quality , MovieMate uses the Progressi ve video display mode. Y ou can change to the Interlaced mode if necessary . When there is no disc loaded in the disc tr a y (or when a video is stopped), press . Whenev er you press the display wi ndo w display changes in the fol- lowing wa y .
36 Y ou can connect your MovieMate to de vices that hav e a video output port, such as: - VCRs - Game consoles - V ideo cameras If the video equipment you are connecti ng supports both S-V ideo and composite video formats, you can enjoy higher quality images by using the S-V ideo connection.
37 Adv anced O perations Using the S-Video connection 1 Remov e the lens cov e r if it is in place. 2 T urn on the MovieMate po wer s witch, then press . 3 Press . “VIDEO” appears in the display wi ndow and Mo vieMate switches to external video mode.
38 Connect your headphones as shown belo w . Using External A udio Equipment • When listening with headphones, make sure the volume is not too high. Y ou can damage your hearing when listen- ing to sounds at high volume over an e x tended period of time.
39 Adv anced O perations Y ou can connect to A V amplif iers and eq uipment capable of making digital record ings when they are equipped with a digital audio inp ut port. Y ou will need an optical digital au dio cable, whi ch may be included with your equi pment or can be purchased from an electronics dealer .
40 Y ou can obtain enhanced audio from th e speakers by acti v ating the JVC origi- nal sound system fun ction. Press . Each time you press , the display window display changes as fol- lows.
41 Adv anced O perations The default audio setting plays D VDs at a higher volume than other discs. Y ou can adjust this default setting if necessary . Press dur ing playbac k. Each time you press , th e display window changes as follo ws. As you listen to the audio being played, press repeatedly until the setting you want is di splayed.
42 Y ou can adjust the audio input level of equipment connected to the Audio port. 1 Press and s witch to the external video mode. 2 Press and hold for appro ximately 2 seconds.
43 Fine-T uning Y our Mo vieMate Y ou can adjust the MovieMate settings to suit your viewing en viro nment. The Settings menu allows you to change the language, audio and video options, and more. This sect ion describes how to use the menu. 1 When a video is stopped, or when there is no disc loaded in the disc tra y , press .

51 Setting Item Setting Cont ents Inf ormation Displays the current status. Lamp Hours: Accumulated usage time of the lamp. 0H is displayed for 0-10 hours. Displayed in units of 1 hour for 10 hours and above. The display changes to yellow te xt when it is time to change the lamp.
52 T r oub leshooting and Maintenance Y ou can check MovieMate’ s st atus using the indicators on the top pan el. Check the follo wing table an d follow the steps to rem- edy the problem. If all indicators are switched off, make sure the po wer cable is connect ed correctly and the main power switch is turned on.

57 Cleaning the air filter Y ou need to clean the air filter when dust builds up or you see the message “The pr ojector is ov erheating. Make sure nothing is blocking the air vents, and clean or replace the air f ilter . ” Use a small v acuum cleaner designed for computers or other off i ce equipment, as shown.
