2. Installation 2.1. Network + System Requirements T o begin usin g the ESR6650, make sure you meet the following as minimum requirements: h PC/Notebook. h Operating System – Microsoft Windows 98SE/ME/XP/2000/VIST A h 1 Free Ethernet por t. h WiFi card/USB dongle (802.
7 2.3. ESR6650 Placement Y ou can pla ce ESR6650 on a desk o r other flat s urface, or you can mount it on a wall. For optimal performance, place your Wireles s Router in the center of your office (or your home) in a location that is away fro m any potential so urce of interference, s uch as a metal wall or microwave oven.
2.4. Setup LAN & 3G (W AN) LAN connection: Connect Ethernet cable between your PC/Noteb ook LAN port & one of the 2 available LAN ports on ESR6650. 3G connectio n: Plug-in your 3G data card into USB port if you would like to acces s Internet through 3G network.

2.6. Bring up ESR6650 Connect the supplied power-adapter to the power inlet por t and connect it to a wall outlet. Then, ESR6650 automatically enters the self-test phase. During self-test phase, Power LED will blink briefly, and then w ill be lit continuously to indicate that this product is in normal operatio n.
3. Smart Wizard Click <Next> to enter mode selection. Select the mode tha t ESR6650 is going to be and set its configurations. AP Repeater mode does not enab le WAN interface, Setup Wizard w ill skip WAN C onfiguration. Click <Next> to automatical ly detect yo ur Int ern et Network settings .
13 You could choose your s ervice type or select Others to se tup WAN configurations manually. Smart Wizard has detected DHCP client. Co nf igure the host name and MAC address of ESR6650. Click Next to proceed. Smart Wizard has finished setting up WAN Configuration .
14 Enter the name for your wireless network (SSID) and security key Click <Next> to proceed To apply the entire configuration, click <Reboot> . NOTE: After Wireless settings are applied, you ne ed to connect from your WLA N client with the security settings you just finished configuring.
15 4. Initial Setup ESR6650 ESR6650 uses web-interface for configuration to be access ed through your web browser, such as Inte rnet Explorer or Firefox. - LOGIN Procedure 1. OPEN your browser (e .g. Interne t Explorer). 2. Type http://192.168.0 .1 in address bar and hit [Enter] button on your key board.

5. AP Router Mode 5.1. System - S t atus This page allows you to monitor the current status of your router. System: You can see the Uptime, hardw are information, serial number as well as firmware version info rmation. WAN Settings: This section displays whether the WAN port is connected to a Cable/DSL connection.
18 LAN Settings: This se ction displays the Router LAN port’s current information. It also shows whether the DH CP Server function is enabled / disabled.
19 LAN IP IP address: 192.168.0.1. It is the router’s LAN IP address (the “Default Gateway” IP address of your LAN clients). It can be changed based on your own choice. IP Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Specify a Subnet Mask for your L AN segment. 802.
20 Start IP : This is the beginning of the IP pool for DHCP client hosts. End IP: . This is the end of the IP pool for DHC P client hosts Doma in name : The Domain Name for the existin g or customized network.
- DHCP View the current LAN c lients which are as sign ed with an IP Address b y the DHCP-server. This page s hows all DHCP clients (LAN PCs) curren tly connected to your network. Th e table shows the assigned IP address , MAC address and expiration time for each DHCP leased client.
- Schedule This page allows users to set up schedule func tion for Firewall and Power Sa ving . Edit schedule options to allow c onfiguration of firewall and powe r savings services. Fill in the schedule and select type of servic e. Click < Apply > to keep the settings.

- Event Log View operation event log . This page shows the current system lo g of the Router. It displays any event occurred after s ystem start up. At the bottom of the page, the system log can be sa.

26 5.2. Wizard Click Wizard to configure the Router. Setup wizar d will now be displayed ; check t hat the modem is connec ted and click <Next>. The de tails please refer to Smart Wizar d <Page 13>.
5.3. INTERNET - S t atus This page shows the current Internet connection type and status ESR6650 support s both 3G and ADSL for Internet access. Please note that 3G (USB interface) network by default is the preferred In ternet option.
- Dynamic IP Use the MAC address when registering for Internet service, and do n ot change it unless required by your ISP . If your ISP used the MAC addr ess of the Etherne t card as an identifier , connect only the PC with the registered MAC address to the Router and click the <Clone MAC Address> button.
- S t atic IP If your ISP Provider has assigned a fixed IP address, en ter the assigned IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gatewa y IP address, and Primary DNS and Secondary D NS (if available) of your ISP provider .
- Point-to-Point over Ethe rnet Pro tocol (PPPoE) Login / Password: Enter the PPPoE username and pa ssword assigned by your ISP Provider . Service Name: This is normally optional. Maximum T ransmission Unit (MTU): This is the maximu m size of the packets.
- Point-to-Point T unneling Protocol (PPTP) PPTP allows the secure con nection over the Internet by simply dialing in a local point provided by your ISP provider . The following screen allows client PCs to establish a normal PPTP session and provides hassle-free configuration o f the PPTP client on each client PC.
- 3G Network Pin Code: Enter the Pin code required by the ISP . APN Cod e: Enter APN if ISP requires it. Dial Num ber: Enter phone number if ISP requires it. User Name: Enter 3G n etwork account / username Password: Enter 3G ne twork account password MTU: Enter the MTU value if require d.
5.4. Wireless Settings - Basic In basic setting page , you can set wireless Radio, Mode, Band, SSID, and Channel. Radio: You can turn on/off wireless radio. If wi rele ss Radio is off, you cannot associate with AP through wireless. Mode: In this device, we support three operation mode s which are AP router and AP route with WDS .
34 ESSID1~4: ESSID is the na me of your wireless network. It migh t be a unique name to identify this wireless devic e in the Wireless LAN. It is case sensitive and up to 32 printable chara cters. You might change the default ESSID for added security.
- WDS with AP Router Wireless Distribution System , a system t hat enable s the wireless interconnection o f access point, allo ws a wireless network to be extended us ing multiple APs without a wired backbone to link the m. Each WDS AP needs same channel and encryption type settings.
36 Fragment Threshold: This specifies the maximu m size of a packet during the fragmentation of data to be transmitted . If you set this value too low, it will result in bad performance. RTS Threshold: When the packe t size is smaller than the RTS threshold, the wireless router will not use the R TS/CTS me chanism to send this packet.
37 Data Rate: The “Da ta Rate” is the rate that this access point uses to transmit data packets. The access point will use t he highest pos sible selected transmission rate to transmit the data packets. N Data Rate: The “Data Rate” is the rate that this access p oint uses to transmit data packe ts for N compliant w ireless nodes.
- Securi ty This Access Point provides complete wirele ss LAN security functions, included are WEP, IEEE 802.1x, IEEE 802.1x with WEP, WPA with pre-shared key and WPA with RADIUS. With these se curity functions, you can prev ent your wireless LAN from illegal ac cess.
39 IEEE 802.1x is an authentication protocol. Every us er must use a valid account to login to this Access Point b efore accessing the w ireless LAN. The authentication is processed b y a RADIUS server. This mode only authenticates users by IEEE 802.1x , but it does not encrypt the data during communication.
40 Authentication Type: There are two authenticatio n types: "Open System" and "Sha red Key" . Both AP and wireless client must be con figured with the same authentication type. Key Length: You can select the WEP ke y length for encryption, 64-bit or 128-bit.
41 WP A-Radius Encryption Wi-Fi Protected Access ( WPA ) is an advanced security standard. Yo u can use an external RADIUS server to authenticate wireles s stations and provide the session ke y to encrypt data during communication. It uses TKIP o r C C M P ( AES ) to change the encryption key frequently.
42 - MAC Address F iltering This wireless router supports MAC Address Control, which prevents un authorized clients from accessing your wireless network.
43 WPS is the simplest way to establish a connection be tween the wireless clients a nd the wireless router. You don’t have to sele ct the encry ptio n mode and fill in a long encr yptio n passphrase every time when you try to setup a wireless connection.
44 Authentication Mode: It shows the active authe ntication mode for the wireless connection. Passphrase Key: It shows the passphrase key that is randomly generated b y the wireless router during the WPS process. Y ou may need this information when using a device which doesn ’t support WPS.

5.5. Firewall Settings The Router prov ides extensive firewall pro tection by restricting connection para meters, thus limiting the risk of hacker attacks, and def ending against a wide array of co mmon Internet attacks.

49 - MAC Filter If you want to restrict users from accessing certain Internet application s / services (e.g. Internet websites, email, FTP etc.) , and then this is the place to set that configuration. MAC Filter allows users to de fine the traffic type permitted in your LAN.
50 Add PC MAC Address Fill in “ LAN MAC Address ” and <Description> of the PC that is allow ed / denied to access the Internet, a nd then click <Add> . If yo u find any typo bef ore adding it and want to retype again, just c lick <Reset> and the fields will be cleared.
51 - IP Filter Enable IP Filtering: Check to enable or unch eck to disable IP Filtering. Deny : If you select “ Den y ” then all clients will be allowed to ac cess Internet exc ept for the clients in the list bel ow. All ow: If you select “ Allow ” then all clients w ill be denied to access Internet e xcept for the PCs in the list below.
52 - URL Filter You can block ac cess to some Web sites fro m particular PCs b y entering a full URL address or jus t keywords of the Web site. Enable URL Blocking: Enable or disable URL Blocking Add URL Key word Fill in “URL/Keyword” and t hen click <Add> .
53 Remove URL Keyword If you want to remove some URL keywords from the " Current URL Blocking Table ", select the URL keyword you want to remove in the table and then clic k <Delete Selected> . If you want remove all URL keywords from the table, click <Delete All> button.
54 5.6. Advanced Settings - Network Address T ranslation (NA T) Network Address Translation (NAT) allows multiple users at your lo cal site to access the Internet thro ugh a single Public IP Address or multip le Public IP Addresses.
55 Enable Port Mapping: Enable or disable port ma pping function. Description: description of this setting. Local IP: This is the local IP of the s erver behind the NAT firewall.
56 If you want to remove a Port Mapping setting from the " Current Po rt Mapping Table ", select the Port Mapping se tting that you want to remov e in the table and then click D<Delete Selected> . If you want to remove all Port Mapping settings from the table, click <Delete All> button.

Local IP / Local Port: This is the LAN Client/Host IP address and Port number that the Public Port number packet will be sent to. Protocol: Select the port number pr otocol type (TCP, UDP or both).
58 - Port T riggering (Special Applications) Some applications re quire multiple connections, such as Intern et games, video Conferencing, Internet telephony and others. In this section you can configure the router to support multip le connections for these types o f applications.

- Quality of Service (QoS) QoS can let you classify Internet a pplication traff ic by s ource/ destin ation I P add ress and port number. You can assign priority for each type of application and reserve bandwidth for it. The packets of applications with higher pr iority will always go first.
63 Unlim ited Pr iori ty Queue : The LAN IP address will not be bounded in the QoS limitation. High/Low Priority Queue: This can pu t the packets in the protocol and po rt range to High/Low QoS Queue . Bandwidth Allocation: This can reserve / limit the throughput of specific protocols and port range.
64 Policy: S pecify the policy the QoS, Min option will reserve the sel ected dat a rate in QoS queue. Max optio n will limit the selected data rate in QoS queue.

5.7. TOOLS Settings - Admin You can change the password required to log into the R outer's system web-based management. By defau lt, the password is: admin. Passwords can con tain 0 to 12 alphanumeric characters, and are case sensitiv e. Old Pass word: Fill in the current p assword to allow chang ing to a new passw ord.
67 Remote managemen t This allows you to d esignate a host in the Intern et the ability to configure the Route r from a remo te site. Enter the designated ho st IP Address in the Host IP Address field.
68 The Time Zone allows your router to reference or base its time on the settings configured here, which will affect functions such as Log entries and Firewall setti ngs. Time Setup: Synchronize with the NTP server Time Zone: Select the time zone of the country you are currently in.
69 PC Date and Time: This field would disp lay the PC date and time. Daylight Savings: The router can also take Daylight Savings into account. If you wish to use this function, you must select the Daylight Savings Time period and check/tick the enable bo x to enable your daylight saving configuration.
- DDNS DDNS allows you to ma p the static do main name to a dynamic IP address. You must ge t an account, passw ord and your sta tic domain name from the DDNS servic e providers. This router supports DynDNS, TZO and other common DDN S service providers.
- Power Saving power in WLAN mode can b e enabled / disabled in this page. - Diagnosis This page could let you diagno sis your current network status..
- Firmware This page allows you to upgrade th e router’s firmware. To upgrade the firmware of your Router, you need to do wnload the firmware file to your local hard disk, and enter that file name and path in the appropriate field on this page. You can also use the Brow se button to find the fi rmware file on your PC .
- Back-up This page allows you to save the curren t router configurations. When you save the configurations, you also can re-load the saved configurations into the router through the Restore Settings . If ext reme p roblems oc cur you c an use the Restore to Factory Defaults to set all configurations to its original default s ettings.
- Reset You can reset the Router when system st op s responding correctl y or stop functions..
75 6. Repeater Mode Repeater mode has limited settings compared to the AP mod e. Choose “Repeater mode” on the top right corn er of the configuration page. System restarts and connects to the IP address http://192.168..0.1 You will see the configurat ion homepage under “ REPEATE R ” mode now.
