General Product Information 3 3.0 G ENERAL P RODUCT I NFORMATION 3.1 Product/System Description The Liebert XDR is a cooling s ystem for high-den sity heat loads that mounts on the rear of a 24" x 42U rack (for other sizes consult the factory) and maintains access to the back of the server rack.

NOTICE Risk of improper storage. Can cause module damage. Keep the module indoors and protected from dampness, freezing temperatures and contact damage.

Mechanical Considerations 8 4.0 M ECHANICAL C ONSIDERATIONS 4.1 Liebert XDR Dimensions The Liebert XDR is engineered to fit on the rear of a rack enclosure measuring approximately 24" x 42U. Consult the factory for other sizes. Figures 7 , 8 and 9 illustrate the module’s dim ensions and the location of pipes.

Mechanical Considerations 11 4.3 Airflow The server fans draw air into the equipment enclosur e. After heated the air, the server fans force the air across the Liebert XDR’s two coils. The Liebert XD R has a low air-side pressu re drop (similar to a rack with perforated doors).
Installation 12 5.0 I NST ALLATION 5.1 Inst alling the Rack-M ounting Kit onto the Rack The Liebert XDR module mounts on the rear o f the rack using a mounting kit. The mounting ki t secures the Liebert XDR's fra me to the rack. Two ra ils are attached to the rear of the rack with M6 x 12 bolts.
Installation 13 5.3 Door Safety Catch The door safety catch prevents th e door from opening be yond 110°. When the doo r is fully open, th e safety catch will ho ld door in place.
Piping 14 6.0 P IPING Refer to site-specific drawings fo r general locations of the piping connections. The drawings should specify where the piping connects to the Liebert XDR.

Piping 16 6.5.1 Brazing Prep arations The assembly and connection means used for piping in the Liebert XD system are similar to those used for conven tional refrigeration s ystems. All piping shoul d be installed with hig h-temperature brazed joints. Soft soldering is not recommended.
Piping 17 Figure 15 Hard pipe connection diagram 6.6.1 Leak-Checking and Evacuation Refer to the Lieb ert XDC or Liebert XDP user ma nual for procedures fo r evacuation, leak check, charging and startup. 6.6.2 Header System The Liebert XDR module sy stem with op tional flex ible piping requires use of the Liebert XD prefabri- cated piping assembly.

Piping 19 6.7.1 Connecting Methods—One-Shot Couplings for Pre-Charged Refrigerant Option Liebert XDRs with the pre-charged option are equipped wi th one-shot coupling s on the supply and return fittings. These contain a ch arge of R-134a refrigerant under pressure wi thin the module.

Piping 22 6.7.3 Connection Methods—Removable Couplings The assembly and connection means used for piping in the Liebert XD system are the same as those used in conventional refrigera tion systems. Observe all standard practices during installa tion and startup to prevent damage and contamination.

Can cause environmental polluti on and equipment malfunction. Before connecting the Liebert XDR with Liebert XD Flex Pipe to the prefabricated piping mains, check t he whol e system for leaks.

Thread the union nut of the Lieb ert XD Flex Pipe coupling onto the port coupling to ensure the threads mate properly. 10. Using the wrench arrangem ent shown in Figure 26 , torque the couplings to the values in Table 5 .

Starting the Liebert XD System 30 8.0 S TA R T I N G THE L IEBERT XD S YSTEM Refer to the user manual for the refrigerant supply unit, either a Liebert XDP or Liebert XDC, for details on starting the system. Th e Liebert XDP use r manual is SL-16644 and the Liebert XDC user manual is SL-1667 1.
Maintenance 31 9.0 M AINTENANCE Minimal maintenance is required to keep the Liebert XDR operatin g a t optimal levels. The module should be cleaned and checked for da mage. Suggested main tenance includes: • Cooling fins—Clean any dust and debris from the coolin g fins, taking care not to bend them.
