2 Dear customer , Before placing your new refrigerator/freezer into operation please read these operating instructions carefully . They contain important information for safe use, for installation and for care of the appliance. Please keep these operating instructions for future reference.

4 Safety Please read this instruction book before using the appliance and retain for future reference. These warnings are provided in the interests of your safety , ensure you understand them fully before using the appliance. Intended use ¥ The appliance is intended for use in the home.
5 ratures. There is a risk of an explosion! Do not store any containers with flammable materials such as, for example, spray cans, fire extinguisher refill cartridges etc in the refrigerator/freezer . ¥ Bottles and cans must not be placed in the freezer compartment.
6 Remove transport safeguard The appliance and the interior fittings are protected for transport. ¥ Remove all adhesive tape and packing pieces from the interior of the appliance. Y ou can remove any remnants of adhesive using white spirit. its service life - to your new appliance as well.
7 Starting up and temperature regulation W ash the inside of the appliance with lukewarm water with a little bicarbonate of soda (5 ml to 0,5 litre of water). Do not use soap or detergent as the smell may linger . Dry the appliance thoroughly . ¥ When the refrigerator compartment door is opened, the internal ligh- ting is switched on.
¥ Please do the same in rever- se to insert the shelf at a dif- ferent height. Slide the front half of the V ario storage shelf in another level to the rear .
9 Cover or wrap all food before placing it in the refrigerator compart- ment. This will prevent it from drying out or transmitting smells to other stored foods. The following materials are suitable: - plastic bags or food wrap - plastic containers with lids; - plastic covers; - aluminium foil.
Defrosting Refrigerator The refrigerator automatically defrosts every time the motor compres- sor stops, during normal use. The defrost water drains out through a trough into a special container at the back of the appliance, over the motor compressor , where it evaporates.
11 Switching off the appliance T o switch off the appliance, turn the temperature regulator to position "0". If the appliance is not going to be used for an extended period: 1. Remove all refrigerated and deep-frozen packages as well as ice trays.
Energy Saving T ips ¥ Do not install the appliance near cookers, radiators or other sources of warmth. High ambient temperatures cause longer , more frequent operation of the compressor . ¥ Ensure sufficient air circulation and exhaust at the appliance base and at the back wall of the appliance.
13 Something Not W orking If the appliance is not functioning correctly , please carry out the fol- lowing checks before contacting your local AEG Service Force Cen- tre. W arning! Repairs should only be carried out by qualified service engineers. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons may cause injury or serious malfunctioning.
14 Heavy build up of frost, pos- sibly also on the door seal. Door seal is not air tight (possibly after changing over the hinges). Carefully warm the leaking sections of the door seal with a hair dryer (not hotter than approx. 50 ¡C). At the same time shape the war- med door seal by hand such that it sits correctly .

16 Guarantee Conditions Guarantee Conditions AEG offer the following guarantee to the first purchaser of this appliance. 1. The guarantee is valid for 12 months commencing when the appliance is handed over to the first retail purchaser , which must be verified by purcha- se invoice or similar documentation.
17 Installation Electrical Connection Any electrical work required to install this appliance should be car- ried out by a qualified electrician or competent person. W ARNING Ð THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED The manufacturer declines any liability should these safety mea- sures not be observed.
18 Y our appliance needs air Air flows in from under the door , at the front, and flows out upwards, over the back. For correct air circulation, it is important that the ventilation openings are not covered or obstructed.
19 AEG68 2 1 AEG69 3 Rear spacers Fit the rear spacers contained in the documentation bag to ensure even dissipation of heat genereted during opera- tion. Proceed in the sequence illustrated by the numbers in figures. Levelling the appliance Place the appliance on a flat hard floor .
20 Proceed as follows: 1. Remove the plastic cover from the bottom hinge. 2. Unscrew the bottom hinge and remove the freezer compart- ment door by pulling it downwards. 3. Re-tighten the screws. 4. Remove the screw masking plugs from the bottom left- hand side and refit them on the right-hand side.
8. Remove the door handles. T o do this turn the pins anti- clockwise by a 1/4 turn with a screwdriver and remove them. 9. T urn the handles as shown in figures and refit them on the opposite side. 10. Reinsert the pins and secure by turning them clockwise by a 1/4 turn.
