Introduction About the EWI5000 EWI5000 , the latest addition to the EWI seri es, combines innovative inst rument design, wireless conne ctivity, and a sound lib rary by SONiVOX to crea te the most expressi ve and versatile wind inst rument available to today's musicia ns.
Getting Started Important Before operating the EWI5000, please not e the following: • Do not bite the mo uthpiece too hard —this can dama ge the vibrato s ensor. Use th e mouthpiece cover after using or while carrying th e EWI5000. • Always touch the gr ounding plate and octave roll ers when playin g.
3. Connect Important: The scen arios below are n ot mutually exclusi ve. The EWI5000 s ends out audio from its Line Out , from its Phones jack, and wirelessl y to the receiver (if it is paired ) all at the same time . You can, for ex ample, play EWI50 00's audio wirelessly whi le also listening through the headphones.

4. Play! Hold the mouth piece gently bet ween your lips with your teeth, and ex hale so your br eath passes through both side s of your mouth. The EWI5000 detects this wind pressure with the breath sensor a nd expresses th e change in sou nd volume and character, depe nding on how you blow.
Features 1. Mouthpiece: Hold the mouthpiece gently in between your lips with your teeth and exhale into it (like a tr aditional wind instrument). You can produce a vibrato effect by gentl y biting the mouthpiece while blowing into it, but do not bite too hard .
9. Grounding Plate: Alwa ys touch these plate s while playing. 10. Octave Roller s: M o v e y o u r t h u m b u p o r d o w n o v e r these rollers to shift th e note keys' range. You can shift them up to four octaves higher or up to two octaves lo wer.
24. Line Output: Use a 1/4" (6.35 mm) TRS cable to con nect this output to the input of a keyboard amplifi er, audio interface, speaker sy stem, etc. Important: Th e Line Out is a stereo output. If you are conn ecting to a mono i nput (like those on most ke yboard amplifier s, audio interfac es, etc.
Advanced Functions The EWI5000 is a woodwind-instrum ent-type MIDI controller wit h an internal sound module and built-in effects. I t allows you to perf orm with the articulation of an acou stic instrument but also with the ch aracter of an electronic inst rument with a wide v ariety of soun ds and tonal colorings.
Fine Primary: sets the EWI5000's tuning by fractions of a semitone. Secondary: no function. Reverb Primary: sets the amoun t of Reverb effect applied to the Program. Secondary: sets the room size of the Reverb effect applied to the Program. Chorus Primary: sets the amount of Chorus effect applied to the Program.

Breath Sensor The mouthpiece' s breath sensor tran slates the st rength of your bre ath into the volume a nd character of the note you're playing. It's import a nt to set the se nsor's sens itivity so it su its your playing style.
• CC (Continuous Controll er): The breath sensor will send a MIDI Continuous Controller ( CC) message . If you se lect this, press the Trans Button to set additional message par ameters: o En (Enable): Thi s determines whether CC output is enabl ed or disabled.
Bite Sensor The bite sensor controls the cha racter of the vib rato effect you generate when you bite the mouthpiece while playing a note. Note: The vibrato eff ect is obtained b y biting the mout hpiece many times rather than a sin gle steady bite.
• CC (Continuous Controll er): Biting the mouthpiece will send a MIDI Continu ous Controller ( CC) message . If you se lect this, press the Trans Button to set additional message par ameters: o En (Enable): Thi s determines whether CC output is enabl ed or disabled.

Alternati vely, you can set the pitch-bend pl ates to send messa g es for other individu al MIDI Continuous Controllers (CCs).
Glide Plate The EWI5000's glide plate lets you u se a glide effect called portame nto to move between notes for great er expressivenes s in your performa nce. Alternativel y, you can set the glide plate to send messages fo r other individual MIDI Continuous Controllers (CCs).
• Lt (Legato Time): The glide plate will send its messa ges using CC #104 , which the EWI5000 uses for Legato Time. This is the time during which a note ends as a new note begins. Shorte r times will result in more abrupt changes between notes , while longer times will r esult in more fluid cha nges that sound almost slurre d.
Calibrating Sensors The EWI5000's sensors can be adjusted an d assigned as described in the Adjusting Sensors chapter, but we reco mmend calibratin g them, as well. Calib rating the sensors e nsures their sensitivity and respon se fits your performance styl e the best.
