Data indicates that operators, age 60 years and above, are involv ed in a large percentage of riding mower- rel ated inj urie s.
W A RNING 9 SL OP E OP ER A TI ON : Slopes are a major factor related to loss-of-control and tip-ove r acciden ts, which can result in severe injury or death. All slopes require extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it! DO Mow across the slope w ith your Dixon® ZTR® -- never up or down.
W A RNING 10 Keep all movement on the slopes slow and gradual. Do not make sudden changes in speed or direction. Us e ex treme caution w hen opera ting the mowe r w ith attac hments to pre vent tip-ov er or roll -ov er . If front whe els lift off the ground , pul l le ve rs back to sta bili ze the mower .

W A RNING 12 FIRE HA ZARDS: Us e ex tra care when handling gasolin e and other fuel s. They are flammabl e and vapor s are explos ive. Store all fuel in approved contai ners specifically desi gned for that purpose. Allo w engi ne to cool before refuel ing.
W A RNING 13 FIRE HA ZARDS (continued): T o prevent fire or explosion, keep sparks and open flames away from battery . Keep electrical connections clean and tight. Inspect them often. Loose connections and corrosion i ncrease fire risk. Before disconnecting the negative ground cable, make sure all sw itches are off.
W A RNING 14 CHI LDRE N: Tragi c accidents can occur if the opera tor is not alert to the presence of children. Children are attracted to lawn mowers and the mo wing act ivit y . NEVER assume children will stay where they were last seen. Be alert to avo id accid ents.
W A RNING 15 S ER VI CE : Never run a mower inside a closed area or without proper ven tila tion . Keep nuts and bolts tight, especially blade attachment bolts, and keep equipment in good condition. Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper ope ratio n regularly .

CON TRO LS 18 CONT ROL LEVE RS Note: For access to the seat, move control levers to neutral positi on and swing them outward. TO GO FOR WARD •F rom neutral pos iti on, gent ly push contr ol lev ers for- w ard. •T o increas e speed , move lev ers further forward.
CON TRO LS 19 P A RKING BRA KE: The parking brake is designed to hold the mower from moving and is not intended for use in stoppin g the mower while it is in motion. The engine will stop if the parking brake is engag ed whi le the control lev ers are in the drive position.
CON TRO LS 20 BLADE DRIVE : •Located on the operator ’s left. •T o engage the mower blade, turn lev er on floor slow ly to the ON posi tion. •T o dise ngag e mower blade, turn the leve r to the OFF position. THR OT TLE CO NTR OL LE VE R: •Locate d on control panel to operator ’s right.

OPERA TION INSTRUCTIONS 23 T OWING TRA ILERS AND OTHER A T T AC H M E N T S : T owi ng a trailer or other attachmen t that is too heav y could damage the drive or cause the mower to become unstable. Limit loads to 150 pounds or less with this mo wer .

There may be instances or conditions where it is not possible to hide all the recycled or mulched clippings .
OPERA TION INSTRUCTIONS 27 MOWING WITH A MULCHING A TT A CHMENT (c on ti nu ed ): 7 . Keep the underside of the mower deck clean. Remov e all grass and dirt build-up from the under side of the pan, the baffles and deflectors after each use.

OPERA TION INSTRUCTIONS 29 MOWING WITH A GRASS CATCHER ATTACHMENT (c on ti nu ed ): 7 . Maintain sharp blades throughout the cutting season. Some grass catching attachments require a “hig h-lift” blade. See you r dealer for advice on the typ e of blade(s) needed for yo ur mow er .

OPERA TION INSTRUCTIONS 31 GRA SS HEIGHT & CUTTING SUGGESTIONS: Do not attempt to cut grass when it is wet. If the grass is tall, place the mower deck cut heigh t lev er in the top or second notch. “Init ially ” overl ap cutt ing swaths instead of a full swath with each pass.

CA RE A ND MA INTENA NCE 33 CUTTE R BLADE M A INT ENANCE: C A U TI O N Stop engine and remove ignition key for safety . Wear heav y , thick glove s w hen holdi ng onto cutter bla de, avoid the sharp edge of the blade. Blades should be discarded when worn excessively .

CA RE A ND MA INTENA NCE 36 CAUTI ON HOT oil may cause burns . Allo w engine to cool befo re draining oil. CHA NGING THE ENGINE OIL: 1 . The “Dapco” oil drain valv e is located on the left side of the eng ine cr ankcase. 2 . Plac e a suit able conta iner under the drain valv e ho se .
CA RE A ND MA INTENA NCE 37 OIL FILL: 1 . Clean any spilled oil from engine and chassis. 2 . Make sure the hex stem on drain valve has been ti gh tene d. 3 . Refill engine with type, and quanti ty of oil rec ommende d by the engin e manufact ure r in eng ine lite ratur e.

CA RE A ND MA INTENA NCE 42 DE CK RE M OV AL: 1 . Place cut hei ght lever in low est cut position. 2 . Loosen belt keepers. 3 . Remove deck drive belt from engine pulley . 4 . Using a slight upw ard twisting motion, remove link from engagem ent handle.
