Y our Dell Projector 7 About Y our Projecto r CAUTION: Safety Instructions 1 Do not use t he projector n ear appliances that gener ate a lot of heat. 2 Do not use t he projec tor in areas wh ere there is an excessive amount of dust. The dust may cau se the system to fail and the projector will auto matically shutdown.
8 Y our Dell Projector 8 Do not place any objects near or in front of the projector or cover its lens while the projector is on as the heat may cau se the object to m elt or burn. NOTE: • Do not attempt to ceiling mount the proj ector yourself. It should be installed by a qualified technician.

Using Y our Projector 15 3 Using Y our Projector T u rning Y our Projector On NOTE: T urn on the projector before you turn on the source (computer , DVD player , etc.). The Power button light blinks blue until pressed. 1 Remove the lens cap. 2 Connect the power cord and a ppropriat e signal cables.
16 Using Y our Projector 3 T o power off the projector quickly , press the P ower button and hold for 1 se cond while the projector’s cooling fans are still run ning. NOTE: Before you turn on the projector agai n, wait for 60 seconds to allow the internal temperature to stabilize.

Using Y our Projector 27 Using the On-Screen Display • The projector has a m ulti-languag e On-Scr een Display (O SD) Menu that can be displayed w ith or witho ut an inp ut source . • T o navigate through the tabs i n the Main Menu, press the or button s on your proje ctors control panel or remote contr ol.
28 Using Y our Projector INPUT SELECT The Input Select menu allows you to select your projector ’s input source. A UTO S OURCE — Select Off (the default) to lock the current input signal. If you press the Source button when the Aut o Source mode is set to Off , you can manually select the input signal.
Using Y our Projector 29 NOTE: Y ou cannot disable your current input source. At anytime, a minimum of two input sources have to be enabled. PICTURE (in PC Mode) Using the Pi c tu r e menu, you can adjust the display settings of your projector .
30 Using Y our Projector Movie , sRGB (provides more accurate color r epresentation), and Custom (set your preferr ed settings). NOTE: If you adjust the settings for Brightness, Contrast , Saturation , Sharpness , Ti n t , and Advanced , the projector automatically switches to Custom .
Using Y our Projector 31 C USTOM C OLOR A DJUST — Allows you to manually adjust the colors red, green, and blue. C OLOR S PACE — Allows you to select the color space, options are: RGB, Y CbCr , and YPbPr . DISPLA Y (in PC Mode) Using the Dis play menu, you can adjust the display settings of your projector .
32 Using Y our Projector H ORIZONTAL P OSITION — Pr ess to move the image to the left and to move the image to the right. V ERTICAL P OSITION — P ress to move the image down and to move the image up. F REQUENCY — Allows you to change the display data clock frequency to match the frequency of your computer graphics ca rd.
Using Y our Projector 33 DISPLA Y (in Vide o Mode) Using the Dis play menu, you can adjust the display settings of your projector . The Pictur e menu, provides the following options: A SPECT R ATIO — Allows you to select the aspect ratio to adjust how the image appears.
34 Using Y our Projector LAMP Using the Lamp menu, you can adjust the display settings of your projector . The Lamp menu provides the following options: L AMP M ODE — Allows you to select between Normal and ECO mode. Normal mode operates at full power leve l.
Using Y our Projector 35 L ANGUAGE — Allows you to set the language for the OSD. P ress to activate the Language menu. P ROJECTOR M ODE — Allows you to select the proje ctor mode, depending upon how the projector is mounted. • F ront P rojection-Desktop — This is the default option.
36 Using Y our Projector INFORMA TION The Information menu di splays the current projector settings. OTHERS The Others menu allows you to change settings for Menu, Audio , P ower , and Security . Y ou can also perform T est P attern and F actory Reset.
Using Y our Projector 37 M ENU T RANSPARENCY — Select to change the transpar ency level of the OSD background. M ENU T IMEOUT — Allows you to adjust the time for an OSD ti meout. By default, the OSD disappears after 20 seconds o f non-activity . M ENU L OCK — Select On to enable Menu Lock and hide the OSD menu.
38 Using Y our Projector If an input signal is not detected during the delay period, the projector turns off the lamp and goes into power saving mode. If an input signal is detected within the delay peri od, the projector automatically turns on.
Using Y our Projector 39 a Go to Others menu, press and then select Pa s s w o r d to Enable the password setting. b Enabling the P assword function will pop up a character screen, key in a 4-digit number from the screen and press . c T o confirm, en ter the password again.
40 Using Y our Projector C HANGE P ASSWORD — Key in the original passwor d, then enter the new password and confirm the new passwor d again. T EST P ATTERN — T est P attern is used to test focus and resolution.
Using Y our Projector 41 Y ou can enable or disable the Te s t P a t t e r n by selecting Off, 1 or 2 . Y ou can also invoke the Te s t P a t t e r n 1 by pressing and holding down and buttons on the control panel simultaneously for 2 seconds.

44 T roubleshooting Y our Projector The image is stretched when displaying a 16:9 D VD The projector automatically detects the input signal format. It will maintain the aspect ratio of the projected image according to input signal format with an Original set ting.
T roubleshooting Y our Projector 45 TEMP light is blinking amber A projector fan has failed and the projector will automatically shut down. T ry to clear the projector mode by pressing and holding the POWER button for 10 seconds. Please wait for about 5 minutes and try to power up again.

54 Glossary Appendix: Glossary ANSI L UMENS — A standard for measuring the brightness. It is calculated by dividing a square meter image into nine equal rectangle s, measuring the lux (or brightness) reading at the center of ea ch r ectangle, and averaging these nine points.
Glossary 55 dB — decibel — A unit used to express r elative difference in power or intensity , usually between two acoustic or electric signals, equal to ten times the common logarithm of the ratio of the two levels. Diagonal Screen — A method of measuring the size of a screen or a projected image.
