1 Intr oduc tion The D-Link DPR-1061 Print Server is an Ethernet/USB print server that connects to your Ethernet, Fa st Ethernet or USB ne twork anywh ere you wish to locate printer services.
2 Because the DPR-106 1’s very portable and in expensive compar ed to a PC-based print server, and P rint Serv er connects to y our file servers through the ne twork, printers can be deployed to locations o f maximum co nvenience to users.
3 ¾ PS-Link A useful tool for you supporting mul ti-functions (Print/ Scan/ Copy/ Fax) of a MFP printe r, print ing of GDI print er, and ev en other mu ltimedi a softwar e of any MFP/GDI pri nter. For the detail informatio n, see the “Using The PS Software” chapter in this manual.
4 External Features Port Connectors The DPR-1061’s three pri nter ports are located on its rear panel. Two US B and one parallel ports are labeled U SB1, USB2, and LPT. These printer ports are independently configurable u sing the Web Co nfiguration Interface.
5 Rear Panel Connectors Network Cable Connector The Print Server ’s rear panel fe ature an RJ-45 conne ctor for connection to 10Base-T Ethernet cabling or 100Ba se-TX Fast E the rnet cabling (which should be Category 5 twisted-pair cable).
6 LED Indicators The front panel o f the Print Server fea tures five LED indicators: Power S teady gree n confirms that the Prin t Server is powered ON . Link/ Act S teady green confirms tha t the Print Server has a goo d connection to the E thernet or Fast Ethernet netw ork.
7 Setting up the DPR-1061 Installing the Print Ser ver WAR N I N G : Configuration problems may resul t if the Print Serv er is powered up without first est ablishing its ne twork connectio n. Follow this procedure to avoid complicati ons at the configuration st age.
8 Power ON Self-Test Every DPR-1061 has been factor y-tested to opera te properly . When the DP R-1061 is powered ON, i t also auto matically performs a Self-T est on each of its maj or compo nents. Th e final re sult of t he Self-T est is si gnaled b y the state of the USB1, USB2 and LP T LED indicators followin g the Self-T est.

10 Getting Start ed Below is a sample network using the DPR-1061. The DPR-1061 has a buil t- in Web-based mana gement f eature t hat allo ws user s to eas ily conf igure a nd manag e multiple print queues through TCP/IP . WAR N I N G : Only a USB printer may be con nected to the US B port of the D PR-1061.
11 Using PS Software This chapter will introduce you the installation and operation of various useful software program – PS So ftware (contains PS-Link and PS-Wizard) with which t he MFP Server is fe atured. Auto-Run Installation Insert th e Instal lation CD -ROM into you r computer ’s CD- ROM drive to in itiate th e Auto-Run program.
12 PS Software To avoid the co nflict in your network, y ou can use PS Software to change the related settings of your MF P Server (such as the IP address) after finishing the installati on of PS Software on your PC. The PS Software cont ains two ut ilitie s: PS-Li nk and PS-Wizard .
13 2. Click Next> button in t he welcome window o f InstallS hield Wizar d . 3. Specify the destination l ocation by pres sing Browse… button. Otherwise, leave the default setting and click Next> button to continue.
14 4. You may enter a new folder name in the Program Folder field if you want to change the default name. Otherwise, y ou may leave the default setting and click Next> button to go o n the install ation.
15 After installing the program, th e applic ation program for the MFP Server is automat ically ins talled to your computer, and c reates a fold er in Start Î Programs Î PS Software . The PS Software cont ains two ut ilitie s: PS-Li nk and PS-Wizard .
16 Using PS-Link PS-Link , support s for Windows 20 00/XP/2003/V ista , is a useful tool for y ou setting up multi-function (Print / Scan/ Copy/ Fa x) of a MFP printer , printing of GDI printer , and eve n other mu ltimed ia software of an y MFP/GD I printer .
17 Server Name : A list displays t he name of t he connected MFP Server w ithin the network. Di scove r : Y ou may click this button to manually research the current con nected MFP Server . Status Bar : Display the current status about the sy stem and the numbers of the connecting MFP Servers.
18 [Setup Wizard] – Setup Wizard is a step-by-step setup interface, which correspond with the Configuratio n of the Web-based C onfigurati on Utilit y , allowing u ser to do basic setup easily. When t his button is clicked, a welcome window will show up as the following.

24 [Change IP A ddress] - Click this button to bring up the following p op-up window, which allows you to change the IP Address of the M F P S e r ve r i n t w o m et h o d s : Manual ly A ssign or DHCP A s s i g n Automatically . When done the setting, click OK button or Cancel button to abort.
25 Printe r Port : This field not only displays the basi c information and current status of the connected p rinter , but also allows y ou to do further c onfiguration in th e use of the fo ur contro l buttons (L ink, UnLi nk, Lock , UnLock).
26 Installing and Using MFP/GD I Printer This section will introduce you how to st art the initial installation of various MFP/GDI printer in the use of the p rinter manufacturer’s CD-R OM.
27 For HP: 1. When the inst allation program asks y ou to connect the US B cable, you are allowed to connect the prin ter with you c omputer later by checking the box. Then click Ne xt> butt on to continu e the rest of the installation (g enerally , for other multimedia softw are such as scanner driver , etc.
28 2. When the i nstallation of all drivers of the MFP/GD I printer CD-R OM on your computer is done, y ou may use PS-Link to complete the physical connection between the MFP /GDI printe r and y our computer by cl icking [Link] button.
29 As long as th e connection is linked succe ssfully , a prompt o f PS-Link as below will show up to in form you. Press OK to exit. 3. Now the MFP/GDI pri nter is re ady to serve y ou with i ts multi -functions (Print/Scan/Copy /Fax). Y ou may start to use the MFP/GDI pri nter through your computer .

31 1. When the install ation program asks y ou to connect the US B cable of the MFP/GD I printer to your computer , you are n ot allowed to ig nore it; therefore, y ou need to utilize PS- Link to complete it. 2. Launch the PS -Link utili ty and click th e [Link] butto n.
32 When the connecti on is completed successfully , a prompt as below will show up to inform y ou. Press OK to exit. 3. Then you have to go back to contin ue the install ation of the MFP /GDI printer CD-ROM on your compu ter in order to comp lete the rest of in stallation step s.
33 For Ca non: 1. When the i nstallation program asks y ou to att ach the MFP/GDI printer to your computer , you are not allowed to skip this step; therefore, you need to utilize PS-Link to complete such physical connection.
34 2. Launch the PS -Link utili ty and click th e [Link] butto n..
35 When the connecti on is completed successfully , a prompt as below will show up to inform y ou. Press OK to exit. 3. Then you have to go back to do the in stallation of MFP/ GDI printer CD-R OM on your computer in o rder to complete the res t of installation s teps.
36 For Lexm ark: 1. When the i nstallation program asks y ou to att ach the MFP/GDI printer to your computer , then you have to follow; otherwise, you will not allow continuing the installation. Therefore, you need to ut ilize PS-Li nk to complet e it witho ut doing physical conn ection for the MFP/GDI pri nter and y our computer .
37 2. Launch the PS -Link utili ty and click th e [Link] butto n..
38 When the connecti on is completed successfully , a prompt as below will show up to inform y ou. Press OK to exit. 3. Then you have to go back to finish the installation o f MFP/GDI prin ter CD-ROM on your computer for co mpleting the res t of installati on steps.

40 1. When the inst allation program asks y ou to conne ct the printer to your compu ter , just ignore it and click Next> button to continue. 2. Soon after Next> button is clicked, the program w.
41 3. After the installation of the MFP/GID CD-ROM is finished, you may start to utilize PS-Link to complete the ph ysical connection between the MFP/GD I printer and your computer . Click the [Link] button of the PS-Link window as below . When the co nnection is d one successfully , a prompt of P S-Link window as below will show up to in form you.
42 For Brother: 1. When the i nstallation program as ks you to plug in the USB cable of the MFP/GD I printer to your computer , then you have to follow; otherwise, you will not allow continuing the installation. Therefore, you need to utilize PS-Link to complete it without doing physical connec tion for the MFP/ GDI printer and your computer .

44 When the connecti on is completed successfully , a prompt as below will show up to inform y ou. Press OK to exit. 3. Then you have to go back to finish the installation o f MFP/GDI prin ter CD-ROM on your computer for co mpleting the res t of installati on steps.
45 For Fuji Xerox: 1. Owing to the inst allation program of Xe rox MFP/GDI printer will n ot request you to do physical connection b etween the printer and y our computer during the in stallation of the MFP/GDI p rinter driver on your computer , you may ju st accomplish the whole installati on on your computer at one go.
46 2. While after the inst allation is finished, you have to link the connection betw een the MFP/GDI printe r and y our computer in order to u se the MFP/ GDI printer on y our computer . Thus, y ou need to utilize PS -Link to link the tw o devices. Launch the PS- Li nk utility and click the [Link] button.
47 Using PS-Wizard PS-Wizard , s upports for Wind ows 2000/XP/2003/V ist a, is a simple and useful tool for you easily adding a prin ter on your comp ut er in order to qui ckly star t your printing task without any co mplicated configuration.
48 Print Server : This field allo ws you to manually discover the connected MFP Server and to do further configuration of the MFP Server that i s select ed from the list.
49 LA N : Y ou may also to specify dynamic or st atic IP address for your MFP Server . Then clic k Apply button to imple ment the new setting. Port Infor mation : This is the main function of the PS-Wizar d for you to easily add a printer on your c omputer .
50 The wizard provides three ways for y ou to select printer dri ver: 1. Sho w current in sta lled driv ers: Y ou may select this opti on, “ Show current ly installed drivers ” , to check if the sam e printer driver already existed for use . If not, you may try the nex t method.
51 After done the selectio n of printer driver , the wizard will ask you to confirm your selection again in the following window . Beside, you are allowed to edi t the name of the printer in the field.
52 When the following window show s up, you may do print test by clicking Print T es t Page button to check if y ou can do printing no rmally . If y es, then click Finish button to exit the install ation window and now you may st art your printing tasks.
53 Using the Web Configuration Home T o begin managing the DPR-1061 , simply launch the browser (e.g. Internet Ex plorer 6.0 used in this manual) you have ins talled on your c omputer and direct it to the URL addre ss: dlink- xxxxxx, wher e xxxxxx ar e the last six digits of DPR-1 061’s MAC address.

55 SETUP > Print Server Setup The Print Ser ver Setu p screen allows you to modify the Print Server Name and Port Name , as below show s. D-Link doe s not recomm end changing these settings unless asked to do so by your netwo rk administ rator .
56 Print Serv er Name In this field, you can configure the ba sic information of MFP server . The basic information con tains a na me of the p rint server , assigned in Server Nam e field, and a location for the print server , assigned in Location (optional ) field.
57 SETUP LAN Setup The LA N Setup screen allows y ou configure the local ne twork settings o f MFP server . Please note that this section i s optional and you sh ould not need to chan ge any of the settings here to get MFP server up and running. TCP/IP This field allows y ou to assign IP addre ss in manual or automatic meth od.
58 SETUP Printer Setup The Printe r Setup screen allows y ou install the printer drivers for the printer currently connected to your print server . Network Printer Wiza rd Clicking Next to download and run a w indows wizard program which w ill install a network printer on to your compute r .
59 The above screen i s the Network P rinter Wizard so please click RUN , and if a second window appears a s below click RUN again..

63 3. Ha ve Disk: Click Ha ve Disk bu tton to bring up the following window . Insert the manufa cture’ s install ation C D-ROM to install the prin ter drive r .

65 When the follow ing window shows up, you may do print test by clicking Print T est Page button to check if y ou can do printing normally . If yes, click OK button to close the D-Link Add P rinter Wizar d dialogue screen.

67 ADVANCED > Advanced LAN The Ad v a nc ed L AN screen allows you to fu rther network se tting of MFP server , while you are recommen ded better not to change the se ttings unles s instructed to modify the setting by your network adminis trator . The Advanced LA N screen contains th ese fields: TCP/IP , Microsoft Network, and Ap p le T al k .
68 TCP/IP This field con tains four options tha t allow you to confi gure the TCP/IP setting: DNS Server A ddress , UPnP , Mac Bo njour/Rende zvous , and Second HTTP Port .
69 ADVANCED > User Access The User A ccess screen allows you to create and maintain an authorized list of users t hat ar e allowed t o acces s the MFP serv er . User A ccess By configuring the Enable Authorised User List option ( Ye s ), the user in the User List is permitted to a ccess the print ser ver .
70 Authorised Users Y ou can add or delete any user to or from the Us er List. The User List at the bottom of the screen displays the curren t defined user and related information fo r the print serve r .
71 ADVANCED > E-Mail Notification The E-Mail N otification screen allows y ou to assign an E -mail address to the MFP Server , so that your mail of the account can be p rinted out dire ctly throug h the printe r (ASCII text only ). This screen al so allow you choose where to send an email when the pr inter s tatus chan ges.
72 Enable E-mail Notification Y ou can set the print server to send an alert message when the prin ter status changes through E-mail . T o enable this function, set the Enab le e-mai l notifica tion option to Y es. Then, input the adminis trator's E-mail a ddress in th e Destination e-mail A ddress field.
73 ADVANCED > SNMP The SNMP screen allows you to u se SNMP (Simple Netw ork Management Protocol ) to manage complex netw orks. SNMP Management Community 1/2 /3 : Enter a name in the Name frame , and configur e the Access Right by sele cting Read Only or Re ad/ Write from the pull-d own menu.
74 MAINTENANCE > Password The Password screen allows y ou to change the p assword of the MFP s erver by entering the c urrent pa ssword in Cu rrent Passw ord field and new password in Ne w Password and Confirm Pass word fields. Af ter done the configuration, clic k Apply Settings to enable an d restore the new password, o r Cancel to abando n.
75 MAINTENANCE > Save/Restore Settings The Save/Restore Settings sc reen not only allows you to save the current configuration in a computer for backup by clicking Save, bu t also all ows you to reload a configuration th at you saved befor e by cl icking Browse to direct to the backup file, and th en clicking Upda te Settings for reloading.
76 MAINTENANCE > Firmware Upgrade The Firmware Upgrade s creen displays y ou the current firmwa re’ s information of the MFP server , and also allow s you to upgra de the firmwa re of the MFP server when a new versi on of firmware i s available. Click Browse to point to the firmw are file, and then click Upgrade.
77 MAINTENANCE > D iagnostics The Diagnostics screen allows you to test the prin ting for each port of the MFP server: USB1, USB2, and LPT . Af ter done the port selection, clic k Print T est Page to print a test pa ge.
78 STATUS > Device Info The Dev ice Info screen display s the st atus of your M FP Server , printer , and network for your reference..
79 Print Server S t atus This field display s the information of the print server about the firmware ve rsion, MAC/IP address, and up ti me. Printer St atus The items in this field display the information of the printer , such as the gi ven name for the printer , speed, printer st atus, and st atus of y our printing tas ks, etc.
80 STATUS > Network The Netw ork screen displays the general Network st atus of y our MFP S erver , includ ing: Auto IP This field con tains the cu rrent setti ngs of TCP/IP , including D HCP/BOOTP , UPnP , and Mac Bonjour/Rendezvous. The ite ms in this field are configured in Adv an c e d Æ Advanced LA N Æ TCP/IP .

82 STATUS >Print Log The Print Log screen displ ays the printing record of the authorized u sers. Print Log The items in this field display the user(s) information, which include the u ser(s) MAC address, IP addre ss, name, and status o f printing tasks.

84 Reboot If you want to reset the MFP server , you may just click the Reboot for resta rting. Refresh Printer Status Click USB1 , USB2 , LPT to refres h printer status.
