6 8. Never tamper with the safety interlock syst em or other safety devices. Check the ir proper operation regu larly. 9. After striking a foreign ob ject, stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire(s) and ground against the engine. Thoroug hly inspect the machine for any damage.

8 SECTION 3: TRACTOR SET-UP Gas and Oil Fill-up The gasoline tank is located un der the fender and has a capacity of three gallons. Unt hread the fuel cap by turning it counterclockwise .

10 Thro tt l e C on t rol Le ver The throttle co ntrol lever is located on the left side of the tractor’s dash panel. This lever controls the spee d of the engine.
11 Hour Meter Located in the ce nter of the tracto r’s console, the ho ur meter operat es whenever the ignition key is rota ted out of the STOP position and recor ds the actual hours of tractor op eration. See Figu re 3. Figure 3 System Indicator Lights Your tractor is equipped with four indicator lights in the center of its dash panel.
12 SECTION 5: OPERATING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR Safety Interlock Switches This tractor is equipped with a safet y interlock system for the pr otection of the ope rator. If the interlock system should ever malfunction, do not operate the tractor . Contact you r Cub Cadet dealer.
13 Setting the Gauge Wheels Select the height posit ion of the cutting deck by placing the deck lift lever in any of the six d ifferent cutting height notches on the ri ght fender. Adjust the deck wheels so th at they are between ¼-inch and ½-inch above the gr ound as follows.
14 Engaging the Pa rking Brake To engage the parking brake: • Fully depress the b rake pedal and hold it there while gently p ushing the parking br ake lever downward. • Hold the parking brake lever down while removing your foot from the brake pedal.
15 • Depress the br ake pedal to disengage the cruise control and stop the tractor. • Lightly depress th e drive pedal. To change the directi on of travel to reverse when operating with cruise control, depress the brake pedal to disengag e the cruise control an d bring the tractor to a complete stop.
16 • For best result s it is recommended that the first two laps be cut with the discharge thrown towar ds the center. A fter the firs t two laps, reverse the directio n to throw th e discharge to the ou tside for the balance of cuttin g. This will give a bett er appearance to the lawn.
17 SECTION 6: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: Ne v er attempt to make an y adjustments while the engine is running, e xcept where specified in th e operator’ s manual . Leveling the Deck NOTE: Check the tractor’ s tire pressure before performing any de ck leveling adjustments.
18 P arking Brake Adjustment WARNING: Never attempt to a djust the brakes while the engin e is running. Always disengage PTO, stop eng ine and remove ke y to prevent uninten ded starting.
19 SECTION 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR NOTE: Re fer to Maintenance Chart on page 30 for a reference of recommend ed maintenance intervals. WARNING: Before performing any maintenance or rep airs, disengage PTO, set parking brake, st op engine and remove key to prevent unint ended starti ng.
20 • Remove the oil fill cap/dipsti ck from the oil fill tube and SLOWLY pour oil into the oil fill tube. Do NOT pour more t han 6 oz. o f oil at a tim e without fir st stopping and re-checkin g the oil level. • Fill the crankcase until the oil level reaches the full ( F ) mark on the dipstick.
21 Re-filling the Crankcase with Oil IMPORT ANT: On models LT10 42 & LT 1045, the en gine (with oil filter) ha s a capacity of 1.5 liters (50. 75 oz.). On models LT1046 & LT 1050, the engine (with oil filter) has a capacity of 2.0 liters (67.60 oz.
22 Spark Plug(s) Every 200 hours of operation, remo ve the spark plug(s), check condit ion, and reset the gap or replace with a new plug(s) as necessary. • Lift the tr actor’s hood an d locate the spar k plug wire on the fro nt, right area of the engine .
23 7. Move the tractor’s PTO (Blade Engage) into the ON position. 8. Remain in the operator’s position with the cutting deck engaged for a minimum o f two minutes, allowing the underside of the cutting deck to thoroughly rinse. 9. Move the tractor’s PTO (Blade Enga ge) into the OFF position.
24 • Make sure the fuel tank is filled with clean, fresh gasoline. • Make sure the fuel tank cap vent is not blocked and that it is operating prop erly. • If the fuel tank is equippe d with a shut-off valv e, make sure it is open. • Make sure that the in-lin e fuel filter is clean and unobstructed.
25 SECTION 8: SERVICE Tire s WARNING: Never exceed the maxim um inflation pressure sh own on the sidewall of the tire. The recommende d operating tire pressur e is approximately 1 0 psi for the rear tires a nd 14 psi for the front tires. Refer to th e tire sidewa ll for exact t ire manufa cturer’s recommended or maximum psi.
26 Battery The battery is sealed and is maintenance-free. Acid levels cannot be checked and f luid can not be added. • Always keep the battery ca bles and terminals clean and free o f corrosive build-up.
27 Hydrostatic T ransmission Keep the area around the transmission cooling fan free of grass and debris at all ti mes. The hydrostatic transmission is sealed at the factory and is maintenance fr ee. The fluid level ca nnot be checked and on most models , cannot be changed.
28 46-inch Decks • Insert a 3/8”-drive r atchet wren ch (set to loosen ) into the squa re hole found in the idler bracke t on the left side of the deck’s sur face. See Figure 25. Figure 2 5 • Grasp the ratche t’s handle and pivot it toward the tractor’s right side to relieve tension on the belt.

30 SECTION 9: OFF-SEASON STORAGE Clean and lubricate the tr actor as instructed in Section 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR on page 19 of this manual before sto ring for an extended period . Engine If the engine will be out of service for tw o months or more, use the followin g storage procedure: • Clean the exterior surfac es of the engine.
