7 • Always s low t he tractor down before turning . Turning a t high spe ed may tip the tr actor ove r. • To avoid u psets, drive the tractor with care and at a safe spee d. Use extra ca ution whe n operatin g over rough groun d, when cros sing ditches or slopes , and wh en turnin g corners .
8 4. OPERATING THE PTO • Disengag e the PTO, s top the engine, and wait until al l mov ing comp onents have complete ly stopp ed before dismount ing the tractor and conne cting, dis connecti ng, adjustin g, cleaning , or servi cing any PTO driven equipment.

14 To set t he parking brake proc eed as fo llows: • Lock th e right and left brake pedals togethe r using th e brake loc k. Refer to Brake L ock in Floorboard and Fender Mounted Controls later in this s ection. • Fully dep ress an d hold the br ake pedal s.

17 C. Foot Thr ottle The foot thr ottle is interl ocked with the hand throttl e. Depr essing t he foo t thr ottle i ncrease s the eng ine speed . Full e ngine spe ed con trol ca n be obt ained with the foo t thrott le if the ha nd throttl e is in th e full rearward (sl ow) posi ti on.
18 Differenti al Lock P edal Located at the rear of the right floor boa rd, the d iffer- entia l lock is us ed to gai n addition al tracti on when operati ng the tractor on wet or loos e soil. Whe n the pedal is depress ed the rear wheels of the tractor ar e preven ted from rot ating i ndependen tly of one another .
19 Seat Adju stment Lever The se at adju stment leve r is l ocated be neath th e left side of the se at. This lev er is use d to adjust the s eat forward or bac kward to the desi red oper ating po sition. See Figu re 19. Figure 19 PT O Safet y Swi tch Located o n the rig ht fend er.
20 SECTION 2: OPERATION ROLLOVER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE (ROPS) This trac tor is equipped w ith a fo ldable Rollove r Protect ion Stru cture (ROPS ) and sea t belts. Wh en used togethe r they are effe ctive in re ducing inj uries to the operato r in the event of an ac cidental tractor rollover .
21 • Tighten the fuel cap se curely , and imme diatel y wipe up any spi lled fuel . • To minimi ze co ndensa tion, keep the fuel tank as full as p ossible without filling t o capac ity. It is a good prac tice to fill the fue l tank at the end o f the day to r educe ov ernight con densat ion.

TURNING THE TRACTOR W A RNING: Turning the tractor while traveling at a fast s peed ma y cause the trac tor to ove rturn .
25 CHECK WHILE OPER ATING While o perat ing th e tracto r, regu larly check the gauges and war ning lights on the ins trument pan el to ensure the tracto r is fun ctioning proper ly. Coolant T emper ature Light Regularl y check that the gaug e need le is within the normal operatin g rang e.
26 USING THE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK Depressin g the di fferentia l lock pedal e ngages a mechani sm in the trans mission t hat loc ks the diff erenti al. This prevent s the rea r wheel s fro m rotating indepen dently o f eac h othe r and provide s constant power to both rear whee ls whe n addition al tractio n is need ed.

28 USING THE THREE POINT HITCH W ARN ING: Always disengage the PTO, stop the eng ine, and set t he parking brake bef ore dismounting the tractor t o connect, d isconnec t, or adjust thr ee point hitc h mounted implements. Never stand betw een the re ar wheel s and the impl ement wh en att aching and adj usting the implement.
29 USING REMOTE HYDRAULIC S The tractor is equipp ed with a rem ote hydrau lic syste m for poweri ng hydrau lically d riven impl ement s that are a pproved for usage on the tr actor. W A RNING: To avoid perso nal injury, stop the trac tor engine a nd relie ve press ure from the hydrauli c system before connecting or disconnecting lines .
30 SECTION 3: ADJUSTMENTS ADJUSTING THE SEAT For the comfor t of the operator, a sing le le ver adjustab le seat i s provided to set the fore to aft position of t he se at. Ad just th e sea t to t he mo st comforta ble pos ition tha t allows you to operate all control s and ped als.
31 • Tighten the adj usting b olt as ne cess ary to remove the play from the fro nt axle, th en retighte n the ja m nut. • Lower the front of th e tractor to the gr ound. ADJUSTING THE FAN BELT TENSION If the fan belt beco mes loo se, the e ngine may overheat a nd/or the batte ry may not c harge.
32 ADJUSTING THE MICRO SW ITCH HEIGHT The PTO m icro switch, lo cated insid e the right fende r adjacent the p ositi on contr ol le ver, i s initi ally set so that the PTO wi ll dis engage wh en the 3-poin t hitch lower li nks ar e raise d to pres cribed height.
33 • Raise and suppo rt the rear of the tractor. • Adjust the tread widths as shown by changi ng the mounti ng relationshi p of the wheel disc to the rim moun ting brackets and/or t he relat ionshi p of the dish of the wheel d isc to the axle. See Fi gure 49.
34 SECTION 4: MAINTENANCE The servic e life and reliabili ty of any mac hine depend s upon t he ca re it i s given . Pr oper lu bricati on and ma intenan ce is a vital part of th at car e.

36 W ARNING: Use care when servicing any comp onent in t he eng ine ar ea. If the engine has recently been opera ted, components will be hot and could cause burns.
37 • Use No. 2 dies el fuel. Use No. 1 diesel fu el if the temperatu re is b elow 15 ° F (-10°C ). • The fuel tan k capaci ty is approx imately 10.6 gal. Do no t over fil l. Bleeding the Fuel System W ARNING: Do not bleed the fuel system when the engine is hot.
38 • Stop the eng ine befo re checki ng the fuel line hoses an d clamps. • Check that th e fuel li ne hose cla mps are sn ugly secu ring th e hoses to their res pectiv e fitting s. Replace a ny damage d clamps . • Check the fue l hoses for wear or deteri oration, and any da maged ho ses s hould be replac e immed iately.
39 Changing Engine Oil and Filter The eng ine o il and oil fil ter (loca ted on the right/front of the engine ) should b e change d after the fir st 50 hours of operation , then at 100 hours and ever y 100 hours th ereafter. Ref er to the L UBR ICATION TA BLE for the qu antity an d type of oi l nee ded.
40 TRANSMISSION OIL AND OIL FILTER Checking the T ran smission O il Level Check th e hydro transmiss ion/hyd raulic s ystem oil leve l before eac h use. Chec k the oil lev el only while the engine is stopp ed and the tr actor is sta nding on a leve l surfac e.
41 • Move the d rain pan beneath the filter , then remove th e filter by turning it counterc lockw ise using a f ilter wrenc h to loos en. See F igure 6 2. Figure 62 • Use a clean rag to clea n the metal surface of the filt er base wh ere the f ilt er gask et makes contact.
42 SERVICING THE AIR C LEANER Check th e air cle aner dus t cu p and ele ment b efore each use . Clean the dust o ut of the cup and b low off the elemen t weekly. R eplace the eleme nt after ever y 100 hour s of oper ation. NOTE: The air cleaner uses a dry ele ment, ne ver apply oi l.
43 SERVICIN G THE COOLING SYS TEM Before e ach u se, the en gine c oolan t level in the overflo w rese rvoir sh ould be checked to ensu re it is within the operati ng range. Engine coola nt absorb s heat fro m the engine and transfers the heat to the air flowin g through the rad iator.
44 Changing the Coolant The anti freeze and wat er cool ant solu tion s hould be chang ed every year. T he coolin g system c apacity is approxi mately 2 .4 gall ons. W ARNING: It is dangerous to re move the radiat or cap whe n the system is hot. Allow the system to c ool befor e removing the radiator c ap.

47 • Maintain the battery electrol yte lev el in each cell. Keep ea ch cell fill ed to the bot tom of the ring in each vent hol e. Fill with disti lled water if necessar y. See F igure 76 . Figure 76 Re-char ging the Battery • Remove th e vent c aps from the batter y.

49 TRACTOR STORAGE If the tractor wil l not be operated for two or three months or longer, p erform th e following measure s before s toring. • Repair or replace worn or broken parts and tighte n all fas teners. • Change t he engin e oil and run th e engin e about five min utes to circulate oil through out the engine block.

52 When Engine Sudd enly Stops IMPORTANT: W hen th e engine h as sudd enly sto pped, a llow the e ngine to decomp ress; th en try t o turn the engine o ver by li ghtly pul ling on the fa n belt. If th e engine tur ns easil y without an y abno rmal res istanc e, the cause of the trou ble is u sually lac k of fuel or a bad nozzle.
